Optical features of AdS black holes in the novel 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics

An alternative theory of gravity that has attracted much attention recently is the novel four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) gravity. The theory is rescaled by the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) coupling constant $α\rightarrow α/(D - 4)$ in $ D $ dimensions and redefined as four-dimensional gravity in the limit $D \rightarrow 4$. Thus, in this manner, the GB term yields a non-trivial contribution to the gravitational dynamics. In fact, regularized black hole solutions and applications in the novel 4D EGB gravity have also been extensively explored. In this work, motivated by recent astrophysical observations, we present an in-depth study of the optical features of AdS black holes in the novel 4D EGB gravity coupled to exponential nonlinear electrodynamics (NED), such as the shadow geometrical shape, the energy emission rate, the deflection angle and quasinormal modes. Taking into account these dynamic quantities, we investigate the effects on the black hole solution by varying the parameters of the models. More specifically, we show that the variation of the GB and NED parameters, and of the cosmological constant, imprints specific signatures on the optical features of AdS black holes in the novel 4D EGB gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics, thus leading to the possibility of directly testing these black hole models by using astrophysical observations.

Evolving traversable wormholes satisfying the energy conditions in the presence of pole dark energy

We consider the evolution of traversable wormhole geometries in the inflationary, radiation -- and matter -- dominated eras, and dynamic wormholes with a traceless energy-momentum tensor (EMT), within the recently proposed {\it pole dark energy} model. We show that the evolving radiation -- and matter -- dominated wormhole spacetimes satisfy the null energy condition (NEC), but possess negative energy densities at late times, thus violating the weak energy condition (WEC) in this specific domain. However, we demonstrate with a specific example that the traceless EMT evolving wormholes, supported by conformally invariant massless fields, in principle, could satisfy the WEC, and consequently the NEC, at all times and for all values of the radial coordinate. Thus, one may imagine a scenario in which these geometries originate in the Planckian era through quantum gravitational processes. Inflation could then provide a natural mechanism for the enlargement of these Planckian wormholes, where their FLRW background evolution is governed by pole dark energy. For the first time in the literature, specific dynamical $4$-dimensional solutions are presented that satisfy the NEC and WEC everywhere and everywhen.

Charged scalar quasi-normal modes for higher-dimensional Born-Infeld dilatonic black holes with Lifshitz scaling

We study quasi-normal modes for a higher dimensional black hole with Lifshitz scaling, as these quasi-normal modes can be used to test Lifshitz models with large extra dimensions. Furthermore, as the effective Planck scale is brought down in many models with large extra dimensions, we study these quasi-normal modes for a UV completion action. Thus, we analyze quasi-normal modes for higher dimensional dilaton-Lifshitz black hole solutions coupled to a non-linear Born-Infeld action. We will analyze the charged perturbations for such a black hole solution. We will first analyze the general conditions for stability analytically, for a positive potential. Then, we analyze this system for a charged perturbation as well as negative potential, using the asymptotic iteration method for quasi-normal modes. Thus, we analyze the behavior of these modes numerically.

Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet traversable wormholes satisfying the weak energy condition

In this paper, we explore higher-dimensional asymptotically flat wormhole geometries in the framework of Gauss-Bonnet (GB) gravity and investigate the effects of the GB term, by considering a specific radial-dependent redshift function and by imposing a particular equation of state. This work is motivated by previous assumptions that wormhole solutions were not possible for the $k=1$ and $α< 0$ case, where $k$ is the sectional curvature of an $(n-2)$-dimensional maximally symmetric space, and $α$ is the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. However, we emphasize that this discussion is purely based on a nontrivial assumption that is only valid at the wormhole throat, and cannot be extended to the entire radial-coordinate range. In this work, we provide a counterexample to this claim, and find for the first time specific solutions that satisfy the weak energy condition throughout the entire spacetime, for $k=1$ and $α< 0$. In addition to this, we also present other wormhole solutions which alleviate the violation of the WEC in the vicinity of the wormhole throat.

Higher-dimensional thin-shell wormholes in third-order Lovelock gravity

In this work, we explore asymptotically flat charged thin-shell wormholes of third order Lovelock gravity in higher dimensions, taking into account the cut-and-paste technique. Using the generalized junction conditions, we determine the energy-momentum tensor of these solutions on the shell, and explore the issue of the energy conditions and the amount of normal matter that supports these thin-shell wormholes. Our analysis shows that for negative second order and positive third-order Lovelock coefficients, there are thin-shell wormhole solutions that respect the weak energy condition. In this case, the amount of normal matter increases as the third-order Lovelock coefficient decreases. We also find novel solutions which possess specific regions where the energy conditions are satisfied for the case of a positive second order and negative third-order Lovelock coefficients. Finally, a linear stability analysis in higher dimensions around the static solutions is carried out. Considering a specific cold equation of state, we find a wide range of stability regions.

Higher-dimensional evolving wormholes satisfying the null energy condition

In this work, we consider the possibility of expanding wormholes in higher-dimensions, which is an important ingredient of modern theories of fundamental physics. An important motivation is that non-trivial topological objects such as microscopic wormholes may have been enlarged to macroscopic sizes in an expanding inflationary cosmological background. Since the Ricci scalar is only a function of time in standard cosmological models, we use this property as a simplifying assumption. More specifically, we consider a particular class of wormhole solutions corresponding to the choice of a spatially homogeneous Ricci scalar. The possibility of obtaining solutions with normal and exotic matter is explored and we find a variety of solutions including those in four dimensions that satisfy the null energy condition (NEC) in specific time intervals. In particular, for five dimensions, we find solutions that satisfy the NEC throughout the respective evolution.
