We study a question on characterizing polynomials among rational functions of degree $>1$ on the projective line over an algebraically closed field that is complete with respect to a non-trivial and non-archimedean absolute value, from the viewpoint of dynamics and potential theory on the Berkovich projective line.
We obtain a measure theoretical characterization of polynomials among rational functions on $\mathbb{P}^1$, which generalizes a theorem of Lopes. Our proof applies both classical and dynamically weighted potential theory.
We obtain sufficient and necessary conditions (in terms of positive singular metrics on an associated line bundle) for a positive divisor $D$ on a projective algebraic variety $X$ to be attracting for a holomorphic map $f:X \mapsto X$.
