On a chain of fragmentation equations for duplication-mutation dynamics in DNA sequences

Recent studies have revealed that for the majority of species the length distributions of duplicated sequences in natural DNA follow a power-law tail. We study duplication-mutation models for processes in natural DNA sequences and the length distributions of exact matches computed from both synthetic and natural sequences. Here we present a hierarchy of equations for various number of exact matches for these models. The reduction of these equations to one equation for pairs of exact repeats is found. Quantitative correspondence of solutions of the equation to simulations is demonstrated.

On mechanisms of neutral evolution of DNA resulting in scale-free behaviour

We introduce a family of models incorporating random segmental substitutions and point mutations and demonstrate that such models reproduce algebraic length distributions of exact matches with the slope $-4$ observed earlier in pairwise comparisons of DNA of distantly related species. It is demonstrated that power-law distributions of exact matches emerge when shorter sequences transfer their DNA content to longer sequences, indicating potential mechanisms of the increased genome complexity.

Fragmentation dynamics of DNA sequence duplications

Motivated by empirical observations of algebraic duplicated sequence length distributions in a broad range of natural genomes, we analytically formulate and solve a class of simple discrete duplication/substitution models that generate steady-states sharing this property. Continuum equations are derived for arbitrary time-independent duplication length source distribution, a limit that we show can be mapped directly onto certain fragmentation models that have been intensively studied by physicists in recent years. Quantitative agreement with simulation is demonstrated. These models account for the algebraic form and exponent of naturally occuring duplication length distributions without the need for fine-tuning of parameters.

Local temperature perturbations in the boundary layer in regime of free viscous-inviscid interaction

We analyze the disturbed flow in the supersonic laminar boundary layer when local heated elements are placed on the surface. It is exhibited that these flows are described in terms of free interaction theory for specific sizes of thermal sources. We construct the numerical solution for flat supersonic problem in the viscous asymptotic layer in which the flow is described by nonlinear equations for vorticity, temperature with the interaction condition which provides influence of perturbations to the pressure in the main order.

Stationary subsonic boundary layer in the regions of local heating of surface

The problem of disturbed flow in the laminar boundary layer is investigated when a heating element is located on the surface of the body. The flow is supposed to be laminar one. It is shown that the problem may be solved in terms of free interaction theory. The solution of linear flat problem is constructed. The results of asymptotic analysis are also presented.
