On spectral estimates for two-dimensional Schrödinger operators

For a two-dimensional Schrödinger operator HαV=−Δ−αV, V≥0,H_{αV}=-Δ-αV,\ V\ge 0, we study the behavior of the number N−(HαV)N_-(H_{αV}) of its negative eigenvalues (bound states), as the coupling parameter αα tends to infinity. A wide class of potentials is described, for which N−(HαV)N_-(H_{αV}) has the semi-classical behavior, i.e., N−(HαV)=O(α)N_-(H_{αV})=O(α). For the potentials from this class, the necessary and sufficient condition is found for the validity of the Weyl asymptotic law.

On a family of differential operators with the coupling parameter in the boundary condition

We study a family of differential operators LαL_α in two variables, depending on the coupling parameter α≥0α\ge0 that appears only in the boundary conditions. Our main concern is the spectral properties of LαL_α, which turn out to be quite different for α≤1α\le 1 and for α>1α>1. In particular, LαL_α has a unique self-adjoint realization for α≤1α\le 1 and many such realizations for α>1α>1. In the more difficult case α>1α>1 an analysis of non-elliptic pseudodifferential operators in dimension one is involved.

Schrödinger operator on homogeneous metric trees: spectrum in gaps

The paper studies the spectral properties of the Schrödinger operator AgV=A0+gVA_{gV} = A_0 + gV on a homogeneous rooted metric tree, with a decaying real-valued potential VV and a coupling constant g≥0g\ge 0. The spectrum of the free Laplacian A0=−ΔA_0 = -Δ has a band-gap structure with a single eigenvalue of infinite multiplicity in the middle of each finite gap. The perturbation gVgV gives rise to extra eigenvalues in the gaps. These eigenvalues are monotone functions of gg if the potential VV has a fixed sign. Assuming that the latter condition is satisfied and that VV is symmetric, i.e. depends on the distance to the root of the tree, we carry out a detailed asymptotic analysis of the counting function of the discrete eigenvalues in the limit g→∞g\to\infty. Depending on the sign and decay of VV, this asymptotics is either of the Weyl type or is completely determined by the behaviour of VV at infinity.
