A new gravitational black-hole

In a recent paper we have analyzed the Spinor Theory of Gravity (STG) which is based on the intimate relation between Fermi (weak) interaction and gravity. We presented the hypothesis that the effect of matter upon the metric that represents gravitational interaction in General Relativity is an effective one. This lead us to consider gravitation to be the result of the interaction of two neutral spinorial fields (G-neutrinos) $Ψ_g$ and $Ω_g$ with all kinds of matter and energy through the generation of such effective metric. In other words, the universal metric that represents gravitational interaction in the framework of General Relativity is constructed with the weak currents associated to $Ψ_g$ and $Ω_g$. In the first paper we have shown that when only one spinor exists, the effective metric of a static and spherically symmetric configuration is identical to the Schwarzschild geometry of GR. In the present paper we go one step further and consider the case in which the field $Ψ_g$ has a self-interaction. The solution of a static and spherically symmetric configuration is distinct from the previous one. This new solution presents another horizon that we compare with the case of Schwarzschild.

A new bifurcation in the Universe

We show that the combined system of general relativity with a non minimally coupled electromagnetic field presents a bifurcation in a cosmical framework driven by a cosmological constant. In the same framework we show the existence of states such that the resulting combined energy (the sum of the minimally and the non minimally coupled energy momentum tensor of the electromagnetic field) vanishes in a sort of violation of the action-reaction principle.

The cosmological constant and a scalar field coupled non minimally to gravity

We show that the combined minimal and non minimal interaction with the gravitational field may produce the generation of a cosmological constant without self-interaction of the scalar field. In the same vein we analyze the existence of states of a scalar field that by a combined interaction of minimal and non minimal coupling with the gravitational field can exhibit an unexpected property, to wit, they are acted on by the gravitational field but do not generate gravitational field. In other words, states that seems to violate the action-reaction principle. We present explicit examples of this situation in the framework of a spatially isotropic and homogeneous universe.

A possible interaction between uncharged particles and the Electromagnetic field

Maxwell Electrodynamics can be described either in Minkowski space-time or in a dynamically equivalent way in a curved geometry constructed in terms of the electromagnetic field. For this the field must have a superior bound limited by a maximum value of its energy. After showing such geometric equivalence we investigate the possibility that new processes dependent on the metric structure may appear. In particular for very high values of the field a direct coupling of uncharged particles to the electromagnetic field is predicted.

Gravitational mechanism for baryogenesis in the cosmological QCD phase transition

One of the biggest puzzles in modern cosmology is the observed baryon asymmetry in the universe. In current models of baryogenesis gravity plays a secondary role, although the process is believed to have happened in the early universe, under the influence of an intense gravitational field. In the present work we resume Sakharov's original program for baryogenesis and propose a central role for gravity in the process. This is achieved through a non-minimal coupling (NMC) between the gravitational field and both the strong interaction field and the quark fields. When in action, the present mechanism leads to baryon number non-conservation and CP violation. Moreover, the NMC induces reduced effective quark masses, which favours a first order QCD phase transition. As a consequence, a baryon asymmetry can be attained in the transition from the quark epoch to the hadron epoch.

More about scalar gravity

We discuss a class of models for gravity based on a scalar field. The models include and generalize the old approach by Nordström which predated and in some way inspired General Relativity. The class include also a model that we have recently introduced and discussed in its cosmological aspects (GSG). We present here a complete characterisation of the Schwarschild geometry as a vacuum solution of GSG and sketch a discussion of the first Post-Newtonian approximation.

Analogue black holes for light rays in static dielectrics

Propagation of light in nonlinear materials is here studied in the regime of the geometrical optics. It is shown that a spherically symmetric medium at rest with some specific dielectric properties can be used to produce an exact analogue model for a class of space-times which includes spherically symmetric and static black hole solutions. The optical model here presented can be a useful tool to reproduce in laboratory the behavior of optical null geodesics near a compact object with an observable gravitational Schwarzschild radius.

Cosmology in GSG

We describe what cosmology looks like in the context of the geometric theory of gravity (GSG) based on a single scalar field. There are two distinct classes of cosmological solutions. An interesting feature is the possibility of having a bounce without invoking exotic equations of state for the cosmic fluid. We also discuss cosmological perturbation and present the basis of structure formation by gravitational instability in the framework of the geometric scalar gravity.

A proposal for the origin of the anomalous magnetic moment

We investigate a new form of contribution for the anomalous magnetic moment of all particles. This common origin is displayed in the framework of a recent treatment of electrodynamics that is based in the introduction of an electromagnetic metric which has no gravitational character. This effective metric constitutes a universal pure electromagnetic process perceived by all bodies, charged or not charged. As a consequence it yields a complementary explanation for the existence of anomalous magnetic moment for charged particles and even for non-charged particles like neutrino.

The Quasi-Maxwellian Equations of General Relativity: Applications to the Perturbation Theory

A comprehensive review of the equations of general relativity in the quasi-Maxwellian (QM) formalism introduced by Jordan, Ehlers and Kundt is made. Our main interest concerns its applications to the analysis of the perturbation of standard cosmology in the Friedman-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker framework. The major achievement of the QM scheme is its use of completely gauge independent quantities. We shall see that in the QM-scheme we deal directly with observable quantities. This reveals its advantage over the old method introduced by Lifshitz et al that deals with perturbation in the standard Einstein framework. For completeness, we compare the QM-scheme to the gauge-independent method of Bardeen, a procedure consisting on particular choices of the perturbed variables as a combination of gauge dependent quantities.

Dragged Metrics

We show that the path of any accelerated body in an arbitrary space-time geometry $g_{μν}$ can be described as geodesics in a dragged metric $\hat{q}_{μν}$ that depends only on the background metric and on the motion of the body. Such procedure allows the interpretation of all kind of non-gravitational forces as modifications of the metric of space-time. This method of effective elimination of the forces by a change of the metric of the substratum can be understood as a generalization of the d'Alembert principle applied to all relativistic processes.

preprint2012arXiv

Gordon Metric Revisited

We show that Gordon metric belongs to a larger class of geometries, which are responsible to describe the paths of accelerated bodies in moving dielectrics as geodesics in a metric $\hat q_{μν}$ different from the background one. This map depends only on the background metric and on the motion of the bodies under consideration. As a consequence, this method describes a more general property that concerns the elimination of any kind of force acting on bodies by a suitable change of the substratum metric.

What is the origin of the mass of the Higgs boson?

The purpose of this paper is to present a unified description of mass generation mechanisms that have been investigated so far and that are called the Mach and Higgs proposals. In our mechanism, gravity acts merely as a catalyst and the final expression of the mass depends neither on the intensity nor on the particular properties of the gravitational field. We shall see that these two strategies to provide mass for all bodies that operate independently and competitively can be combined into a single unified theoretical framework. As a consequence of this new formulation we are able to present an answer to the question: what is the origin of the mass of the Higgs boson?

Beyond Analog Gravity: The Case of Exceptional Dynamics

We show that it is possible to go beyond the simple kinematical aspects of the analog models of gravity. We exhibit the form of the Lagrangian that describes the dynamics of a self-interacting field $ ϕ$ as an interaction between $ ϕ$ and its associated effective metric $ \hat{g}^{μν}.$ In other words the non-linear equation of motion of the field may be interpreted as the gravitational influence on $ ϕ$ by its own effective metric which, in our scheme becomes an active partner of the dynamics of $ ϕ. $

Electromagnetic Geometry

We show that Maxwell's electromagnetism can be mapped into the Born-Infeld theory in a curved space-time, which depends only on the electromagnetic field in a specific way. This map is valid for any value of the two lorentz invariants $F$ and $G$ confirming that we have included all possible solutions of Maxwell's equations. Our result seems to show that specifying the dynamics and the space-time structure of a given theory can be viewed merely as a choice of representation to describe the physical system.

Hidden geometries in nonlinear theories: a novel aspect of analogue gravity

We show that non-linear dynamics of a scalar field ϕ may be described as a mod- ification of the spacetime geometry. Thus, the self-interaction is interpreted as a coupling of the scalar field with an effective gravitational metric that is constructed with ϕ itself. We prove that this process is universal, that is, it is valid for arbi- trary Lagrangian. Our results are compared to usual analogue models of gravitation, where the emergence of a metric appears as a consequence of linear perturbation.

The gravitational mechanism to generate mass II

With the eminent confirmation or disproof of the existence of Higgs boson by experiments on the LHC it is time to analyze in a non-dogmatic way the suggestions to understand the origin of the mass. Here we analyze the recent proposal according to which gravity is what is really responsible for the generation of mass of all bodies. The great novelty of such mechanism is that the gravitational field acts merely as a catalyst, once the final expression of the mass does not depend either on the intensity or on the particular characteristics of the gravitational field.

preprint2010arXiv

A gravitational mechanism which gives mass to the vectorial bosons

A mechanism in which gravity is the responsible for the generation of the mass of scalar bosons and fermions was proposed recently [arXiv:1003.5126]. The purpose of the present paper is to extend this scheme to vector bosons. The main characteristic of this mechanism is that the gravitational field acts really as a catalyzer, once the final expression of the mass we obtained depends neither on the intensity of the gravitational field nor on the value of Newton's constant.

preprint2010arXiv

A mechanism to generate mass: the case of fermions

In a recent paper \cite{novello} we have presented a mechanism to generate mass from gravitational interaction, based on the Mach principle, according to which the inertia of a body is a property of matter as well as of the background provided by the rest-of-the-universe. In \cite{novello} we realized such an idea for a scalar field treating the rest-of-the-universe in its vacuum state. In the present paper we describe a similar mechanism for fermions.

Gaussian coordinate systems for the Kerr metric

We present the whole class of Gaussian coordinate systems for the Kerr metric. This is achieved through the uses of the relationship between Gaussian observers and the relativistic Hamilton-Jacobi equation. We analyze the completeness of this coordinate system. In the appendix we present the equivalent JEK formulation of General Relativity -- the so-called quasi-Maxwellian equations -- which acquires a simpler form in the Gaussian coordinate system. We show how this set of equations can be used to obtain the internal metric of the Schwazschild solution, as a simple example. We suggest that this path can be followed to the search of the internal Kerr metric.

On a Geometrical Description of Quantum Mechanics

We show that Quantum Mechanics can be interpreted as a modification of the Euclidean nature of 3-d space into a particular Weyl affine space which we call Q-wis. This is proved using the Bohm-de Broglie causal formulation of Quantum Mechanics. In the Q-wis geometry, the length of extended objects changes from point to point. In our proposed geometrical formulation, deformation of the standard rulers used to measure physical distances are in the core of quantum effects.

Cyclic Magnetic Universe

Recent works have shown the important role Nonlinear Electrodynamics (NLED) can have in two crucial questions of Cosmology, concerning particular moments of its evolution for very large and for low-curvature regimes, that is for very condensed phase and at the present period of acceleration. We present here a toy model of a complete cosmological scenario in which the main factor responsible for the geometry is a nonlinear magnetic field which produces a FRW homogeneous and isotropic geometry. In this scenario we distinguish four distinct phases: a bouncing period, a radiation era, an acceleration era and a re-bouncing. It has already been shown that in NLED a strong magnetic field can overcome the inevitability of a singular region typical of linear Maxwell theory; on the other extreme situation, that is for very weak magnetic field it can accelerate the expansion. The present model goes one step further: after the acceleration phase the universe re-bounces and enter in a collapse era. This behavior is a manifestation of the invariance under the dual map of the scale factor $ a(t) \to 1/ a(t),$ a consequence of the corresponding inverse symmetry of the electromagnetic field ($ F \to 1/ F,$ where $F \equiv F^{μν}F_{μν}$) of the NLED theory presented here. Such sequence collapse-bouncing-expansion-acceleration-re-bouncing-collapse constitutes a basic unitary element for the structure of the universe that can be repeated indefinitely yielding what we call a Cyclic Magnetic Universe.

A Spinor Theory of Gravity and the Cosmological Framework

Recently we have presented a new formulation of the theory of gravity based on an implementation of the Einstein Equivalence Principle distinct from General Relativity. The kinetic part of the theory - that describes how matter is affected by the modified geometry due to the gravitational field - is the same as in General Relativity. However, we do not consider the metric as an independent field. Instead, it is an effective one, constructed in terms of two fundamental spinor fields $Ψ$ and $Υ$ and thus the metric does not have a dynamics of its own, but inherits its evolution through its relation with the fundamental spinors. In the first paper it was shown that the metric that describes the gravitational field generated by a compact static and spherically symmetric configuration is very similar to the Schwarzschild metric. In the present paper we describe the cosmological framework in the realm of the Spinor Theory of Gravity.

Extended Born-Infeld Dynamics and Cosmology

We introduce an extension of the Born-Infeld action for a scalar field and show that it can act as unifying-dark-matter, providing an explanation for both structure formation and the accelerated expansion of the universe. We investigate the cosmological dynamics of this theory in a particular case, referred as the "Milne-Born-Infeld" (MBI) Lagrangian. We show that this model, whose equation of state has effectively a single free parameter, is consistent with recent type Ia supernovae data, providing a fit as good as for the $Λ$CDM model with the same number of degrees of freedom. Furthermore, this parameter is tightly constrained by current data, making the model easily testable with other observables. Contrary to previous candidates for unifying-dark-matter, the sound velocity of the MBI model is vanishing both close to the dark matter state as well as near the cosmological constant state. This could avoid the problems on the matter power spectrum that were present in previous adiabatic dark-matter/dark-energy unification models. We also present a short discussion on the causal propagation in nonlinear scalar field theories such as the one proposed here.

The Velocity of Gravitational Waves

We examine the propagation of gravitational waves in the new field theory of gravitation recently proposed by Novello-De Lorenci-Luciane (NDL). This examination is done on a solvable case corresponding to a spherically symmetric static configuration. We show that in NDL theory the velocity of gravitational waves is lower than light velocity. We point out some consequences of this result and suggest a possible scenario for its verification.
