On charm-mass dependent NNLO corrections to B -> Xs gamma

The inclusive radiative decay of the B meson is known to provide strong constraints on many popular extensions of the Standard Model. Such constraints crucially depend on precision of the Standard Model predictions. One of the main contributions to the theoretical uncertainty is due to certain Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order QCD corrections whose values at the physical charm quark mass m_c have been estimated using interpolation between the m_c=0 and m_c >> m_b limits. A direct determination of such corrections at the physical value of m_c requires calculating hundreds of two-scale four-loop propagator diagrams with unitarity cuts. Applying the integration-by-parts method, we express the corrections in terms of master integrals. Asymptotic expansions of these integrals at m_c >> m_b serve as boundary conditions for differential equations in z=m_c^2/m_b^2 that are being numerically solved. Here, we present our final results for the diagrams involving massless and massive fermion loops on the gluon lines. For the two-body cuts, we confirm the analytical expressions and/or numerical fits that are already present in the literature. In the four-body case, we make the correction complete by including several diagrams that have previously been only estimated using interpolation in m_c. We also report the status of the ongoing calculation of the remaining diagrams where no closed fermion loops on the gluon lines are present.

Towards B -> X_s gamma at the NNLO in QCD without interpolation in m_c

Strengthening constraints on new physics from the B -> X_s gamma branching ratio requires improving accuracy in the measurements and the Standard Model predictions. To match the expected Belle-II accuracy, Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order (NNLO) QCD corrections must be calculated without the so-far employed interpolation in the charm-quark mass m_c. In the process of evaluating such corrections at the physical value of m_c, we have finalized the part coming from diagrams with closed fermion loops on the gluon lines that contribute to the interference of the current-current and photonic dipole operators. We confirm several published results for corrections of this type, and supplement them with a previously uncalculated piece. Taking into account the recently improved estimates of non-perturbative contributions, we find B_{s gamma} = (3.40 \pm 0.17) * 10^{-4} and R_gamma = B_{(s+d) gamma}/B_{c l nu} = (3.35 \pm 0.16) * 10^{-3} for E_gamma > 1.6 GeV in the decaying meson rest frame.

Updated NNLO QCD predictions for the weak radiative B-meson decays

Weak radiative decays of the B mesons belong to the most important flavor changing processes that provide constraints on physics at the TeV scale. In the derivation of such constraints, accurate standard model predictions for the inclusive branching ratios play a crucial role. In the current Letter we present an update of these predictions, incorporating all our results for the O(alpha_s^2) and lower-order perturbative corrections that have been calculated after 2006. New estimates of nonperturbative effects are taken into account, too. For the CP- and isospin-averaged branching ratios, we find B_{s gamma} = (3.36 +_ 0.23) * 10^-4 and B_{d gamma} = 1.73^{+0.12}_{-0.22} * 10^-5, for E_gamma > 1.6GeV. Both results remain in agreement with the current experimental averages. Normalizing their sum to the inclusive semileptonic branching ratio, we obtain R_gamma = ( B_{s gamma} + B_{d gamma})/B_{c l nu} = (3.31 +_ 0.22) * 10^-3. A new bound from B_{s gamma} on the charged Higgs boson mass in the two-Higgs-doublet-model II reads M_{H^+} > 480 GeV at 95%C.L.

The electromagnetic dipole operator effect on B -> Xs gamma at O(alpha_s^2)

The flavor-changing electromagnetic dipole operator O_7 gives the dominant contribution to the B -> Xs gamma decay rate. We calculate two-loop QCD corrections to its matrix element together with the corresponding bremsstrahlung contributions. The optical theorem is applied, and the relevant imaginary parts of three-loop diagrams are computed following the lines of our recent t -> Xb W calculation. The complete result allows us to test the validity of the naive non-abelianization (NNA) approximation that has been previously applied to estimate the NNLO QCD correction to Gamma(B -> Xs gamma)/Gamma(B -> Xu e nu). When both decay widths are normalized to m^5_{b,R} in the same renormalization scheme R, the calculated O(alpha_s^2) correction is sizeable (~ 6%), and the NNA estimate is about 1/3 too large. On the other hand, when the ratio of the decay widths is written as S*(m_b(m_b)/m_{b,pole})^2, the calculated O(alpha_s^2) correction to S is at the level of 1% for both the complete and the NNA results.

Electromagnetic Logarithms in B -> X_s l+ l-

The B -> X_s l+ l- decay rate is known at the next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD. It is proportional to alpha_em (mu)^2 and has a +- 4% scale uncertainty before including the O(alpha_em log(M_W^2/m_b^2)) electromagnetic corrections. We evaluate these corrections and confirm the earlier findings of Bobeth et al. >. Furthermore, we complete the calculation of logarithmically enhanced electromagnetic effects by including also QED corrections to the matrix elements of four-fermion operators. Such corrections contain a collinear logarithm log(m_b^2/m_l^2) that survives integration over the low dilepton invariant mass region 1 GeV^2 < q^2 < 6 GeV^2 and enhances the integrated decay rate in this domain. For the low-q^2 integrated branching ratio in the muonic case, we find B (B -> X_s mu^+mu^-) = (1.59 +- 0.11) 10^(-6), where the error includes the parametric and perturbative uncertainties only. For B (B -> X_s e^+e^-), in the current BaBar and Belle setups, the logarithm of the lepton mass gets replaced by angular cut parameters and the integrated branching ratio for the electrons is expected to be close to that for the muons.

QCD challenges in radiative B decays

Radiative decays of the B meson are known to provide important constraints on the MSSM and many other realistic new physics models in the sub-TeV range. The inclusive branching ratio BR(B -> Xs gamma) being the key observable is currently measured to about 7% accuracy. Reaching a better precision on the theory side is a challenge both for the perturbative QCD calculations and for analyses of non-perturbative hadronic effects. The current situation is briefly summarized here.

B, D and K decays

With the advent of the LHC, we will be able to probe New Physics (NP) up to energy scales almost one order of magnitude larger than it has been possible with present accelerator facilities. While direct detection of new particles will be the main avenue to establish the presence of NP at the LHC, indirect searches will provide precious complementary information, since most probably it will not be possible to measure the full spectrum of new particles and their couplings through direct production. In particular, precision measurements and computations in the realm of flavour physics are expected to play a key role in constraining the unknown parameters of the Lagrangian of any NP model emerging from direct searches at the LHC. The aim of Working Group 2 was twofold: on one hand, to provide a coherent, up-to-date picture of the status of flavour physics before the start of the LHC; on the other hand, to initiate activities on the path towards integrating information on NP from high-pT and flavour data.

Direct CP Violation in K_L --> π^0 e^+e^- Beyond Leading Logarithms

We analyze the direct CP violation in the rare decay K_L --> Pi^0 e+e- with QCD effects taken into account consistently in the next-to-leading order. We calculate the two-loop mixing between the four-quark ΔS=1 operators and the operator Q_7V = (sd)_(V-A)(ee)_V in the NDR and HV renormalization schemes. Using the known two-loop anomalous dimension matrix of the four-quark operators, we find that the coefficient C_7V(μ) depends only very weakly on μ, renormalization scheme and Λ_MSbar. The next-to-leading QCD corrections enhance the direct CP violating contribution over its leading order estimate so that it remains dominant in spite of the recent decrease of |V_ub/V_cb| and |V_cb|. We expect typically BR(K_L --> π^0 e^+ e^-)_dir ~ 6*10^(-12), although values as high as 10^(-11) are not yet excluded.
