Cosmic Neutrinos as a Window to Departures from Special Relativity

We review the peculiarities that make neutrino a very special cosmic messenger in high-energy astrophysics, and, in particular, to provide possible indications of deviations from special relativity, as it is suggested theoretically by quantum gravity models. In this respect, we examine the effects that one could expect in the production, propagation, and detection of neutrinos, not only in the well-studied scenario of Lorentz Invariance Violation, but also in models which maintain, but deform, the relativity principle, such as those considered in the framework of Doubly Special Relativity. We discuss the challenges and the promising future prospects offered by this phenomenological window to physics beyond special relativity.

Quantum gravity phenomenology at the dawn of the multi-messenger era -- A review

The exploration of the universe has recently entered a new era thanks to the multi-messenger paradigm, characterized by a continuous increase in the quantity and quality of experimental data that is obtained by the detection of the various cosmic messengers (photons, neutrinos, cosmic rays and gravitational waves) from numerous origins. They give us information about their sources in the universe and the properties of the intergalactic medium. Moreover, multi-messenger astronomy opens up the possibility to search for phenomenological signatures of quantum gravity. On the one hand, the most energetic events allow us to test our physical theories at energy regimes which are not directly accessible in accelerators; on the other hand, tiny effects in the propagation of very high energy particles could be amplified by cosmological distances. After decades of merely theoretical investigations, the possibility of obtaining phenomenological indications of Planck-scale effects is a revolutionary step in the quest for a quantum theory of gravity, but it requires cooperation between different communities of physicists (both theoretical and experimental). This review is aimed at promoting this cooperation by giving a state-of-the art account of the interdisciplinary expertise that is needed in the effective search of quantum gravity footprints in the production, propagation and detection of cosmic messengers.

Quasi-exactly solvable hyperbolic potential and its anti-isospectral counterpart

We solve the eigenvalue spectra for two quasi exactly solvable (QES) Schrödinger problems defined by the potentials $V(x;γ,η) = 4γ^{2}\cosh^{4}(x) + V_{1}(γ,η) \cosh^{2}(x) + η\left( η-1 \right)\tanh^{2}(x)$ and $ U(x;γ,η) = -4γ^{2}\cos^{4}(x) - V_{1}(γ,η)\cos^{2}(x) + η\left( η-1 \right)\tan^{2}(x)$, found by the anti-isospectral transformation of the former. We use three methods: a direct polynomial expansion, which shows the relation between the expansion order and the shape of the potential function; direct comparison to the confluent Heun equation (CHE), which has been shown to provide only part of the spectrum in different quantum mechanics problems, and the use of Lie algebras, which has been proven to reveal hidden algebraic structures of this kind of spectral problems.

Nongauge bright soliton of the nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation and a family of generalized NLS equations

We present an approach to the bright soliton solution of the NLS equation from the standpoint of introducing a constant potential term in the equation. We discuss a `nongauge' bright soliton for which both the envelope and the phase depend only on the traveling variable. We also construct a family of generalized NLS equations with solitonic sech^p solutions in the traveling variable and find an exact equivalence with other nonlinear equations, such as the Korteveg-de Vries and Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equations when p=2

An alternative factorization of the quantum harmonic oscillator and two-parameter family of self-adjoint operators

We introduce an alternative factorization of the Hamiltonian of the quantum harmonic oscillator which leads to a two-parameter self-adjoint operator from which the standard harmonic oscillator, the one-parameter oscillators introduced by Mielnik, and the Hermite operator are obtained in certain limits of the parameters. In addition, a single Bernoulli-type parameter factorization which is different of the one introduced by M. A. Reyes, H. C. Rosu, and M. R. Gutierrez, Phys. Lett. A 375 (2011) 2145 is briefly discussed in the final part of this work

A note on Verhulst's logistic equation and related logistic maps

We consider the Verhulst logistic equation and a couple of forms of the corresponding logistic maps. For the case of the logistic equation we show that using the general Riccati solution only changes the initial conditions of the equation. Next, we consider two forms of corresponding logistic maps reporting the following results. For the map x_{n+1} = rx_n(1 - x_n) we propose a new way to write the solution for r = -2 which allows better precision of the iterative terms, while for the map x_{n+1}-x_n = rx_n(1 - x_{n+1}) we show that it behaves identically to the logistic equation from the standpoint of the general Riccati solution, which is also provided herein for any value of the parameter r.

The Schrodinger picture of standard cosmology

We consider a time independent Schrodinger type equation derived from the equations of motion that drives a single scalar field in a standard cosmology model for inflation in a flat space-time with a Friedman-Robertson-Walker (FRW) metric with a cosmological constant. We find that all the 1-dimensional bound state solutions of quantum mechanics lead to at least one exact solution for the dynamical equations of standard cosmology, and that these solutions resemble the most recurrent inflationary solutions found in the literature. The analogies derived from this approach may be used to realize a deeper understanding of the dynamics of the model.
