On the Markov evolution of the $ρ$-matrix of a subsystem

Evolution of the reduced density matrix for a subsystem is studied to determine deviations from its Markov character for a system consisting of a closed chain of $N$ oscillators with one of them serving as a subsystem. The dependence on $N$ and on the coupling of the two subsystems is investigated numerically. The found deviations strongly depend on $N$ and the coupling. In the most beneficial case with $N-1=100$ and the coupling randomized in its structure the deviations fall with the evolution time up 3\%. In other cases they remain to be of the order 30\% or even more.

Evolution of pomeron and odderon at all angular momemnta

In the QCD the small~$x$ evolution of the interacting pomerons and odderons is studied with all angular momenta $l$ taken into account. The resulting system of coupled nonlinear evolution equations is formulated in the momentum space and solved numerically. Excellent convergence in $l$ is observed. Also it is found that states with $l>1$ play an important role and substantially reduce the basic pomeron state at large rapidities

The odderon and BKP states in the Quantum Chromodynamics

We discuss the odderon in the QCD and analyze the effects of running coupling introduced in a particular way to preserve the reggeization of the gluon within the leading logarithmic description. This idea is also applied to a family of BKP states with arbitrarily number of gluons in the planar limit. The numerical analysis shows that contrary to the pomeron case where the leading states become discretized, the odderon states still remain a continuous family starting at intercept one. The following rapidity dependence of the amplitude is studied. For the pomeron-odderon system the relation between the descriptions in the reggeized gluon (BFKL) framework and the color dipole/CGC one is investigated.

Elliptic and triangular flows in dAu collisions at 200 GeV in the fusing color string model

In the color string picture with fusion and percolation the elliptic and triangular flows are studied for p-Au and d-Au collisions at 200 GeV. The ordering $v_n(d-Au)>v_n(p-Au)$ observed experimentally for central collisions is reproduced. The calculated elliptic flow $v_2$ at central collisions agrees satisfactorily with thedata. The triangular flow $v_3$ is found to be greater than the experimental values, similar to the resultsobtained in the approach based on the Color Glass Condensate initial conditions with subsequenthydrodynamical evolution.

De-Confinement and Clustering of Color Sources in Nuclear Collisions

A brief introduction of the relationship of string percolation to the Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) phase diagram is presented. The behavior of the Polyakov loop close to the critical temperature is studied in terms of the color fields inside the clusters of overlapping strings, which are produced in high energy hadronic collisions. The non-Abelian nature of the color fields implies an enhancement of the transverse momentum and a suppression of the multiplicities relative to the non overlapping case. The prediction of this framework are compared with experimental results from the SPS, RHIC and LHC for $pp$ and AA collisions. Rapidity distributions, probability distributions of transverse momentum and multiplicities, Bose-Einstein correlations, elliptic flow and ridge structures are used to evaluate these comparison. The thermodynamical quantities, the temperature, and energy density derived from RHIC and LHC data and Color String Percolation Model (CSPM) are used to obtain the shear viscosity to entropy density ratio ($η/s$). It was observed that the inverse of ($η/s$) represents the trace anomaly $Δ=(\varepsilon-3P)/T^{4}$. Thus the percolation approach within CSPM can be successfully used to describe the initial stages in high energy heavy ion collisions in the soft region in high energy heavy ion collisions. The thermodynamical quantities, temperature and the equation of state are in agreement with the lattice QCD calculations. Thus the clustering of color sources has a clear physical basis although it cannot be deduced directly from QCD.

Gluon emission in interaction of two reggeons

The vertex is constructed for gluon production in interaction of two reggeons coupled to projectiles and two reggeons coupled to targets. The vertex can be used to build cross-sections for collisions of two pairs of nucleons in AA scattering. Transversality of the constructed vertex is demonstrated as well as its good behaviour at large longitudinal momenta necessary for applications. Poles at zero values of longitudinal momenta are discussed and it is found that they remain in the amplitudes unlike in the case of a single projectile.

The inclusive jet production in the BFKL-Bartels approach with a running coupling introduced via bootstrap

The inclusive cross-section for production of a jet with a given transverse momentum off a heavy nucleus is derived in the BFKL framework with a running coupling on the basis of the bootstrap relation. The cross-section depends on the same three different coupling constants as the total cross-section unlike the cross-section for gluon production derived in the dipole approach.

Double inclusive cross-sections for gluon production in collision of two projectiles on two targets in the BFKL approach

Double inclusive cross-sections for gluon production in collision of two nucleons with two nucleons are studied in the BFKL approach. Various contributions include emission from the pomerons attached to the participants, from the BFKL interactions between these pomerons and from the intermediate BKP state. The last contribution may be observable provided the growth with energy of the pomeron contribution is tamed in accordance with unitarity. Possibility of long-range azimuthal correlations due to the BKP state are discussed.

On the application of the effective action approach to amplitudes with reggeon splitting

Application of the effective action approach to amplitudes with loop integration is studied for collisions on two and three centers with possible gluon emission. A rule is formulated for the integration around pole singularities in the induced vertices which brings the results in agreement with the QCD. It is demonstrated that the amplitudes can be restored from the purely transverse picture by introducing the standard Feynman propagators for intermediate gluons and quarks.

On the Casimir energy of the electromagnetic field in the dispersive and absorptive medium

The microscopic theory of the Casimir effect in the dielectric is studied in the framework when absorption is realized via a reservoir modeled by a set of oscillators with continuously distributed frquencies with the aim to see if the effects depend on the form of interaction with the reservoir. A simple case of the one-dimensional dielectric between two metallic plates is considered. Two possible models are investigated, the direct interaction of the electromagnetic field with the reservoir and indirect interaction via an intermediate oscillator imitating the atom. It is found that with the same dielectric constant the Casimir effect is different in these two cases, which implies that in the second model it cannot be entirely expressed via the dielectric constant as in the well-known Lifshitz formula.

Ridge from Strings

In the colour string picture with fusion and percolation it is shown that long range azimuthal-rapidity correlations (ridge) can arise from the superposition of many events with exchange of clusters of different number of strings and not from a single event. Relation of the ridge with the flow harmonics coefficients is derived. By direct Monte-Carlo simulations, in the technique previously used to calculate these coefficients, ridge correlations are calculated for AA, pA and pp collisions. The azimuthal anisotropy follows from the assumed quenching of the emitted particles in the strong colour fields inside string clusters. It is confirmed that in pp collisions the ridge structure only appears in rare events with abnormally high multiplicity. Comarison with the experimental data shows a good agreement. Also a good agreement is found for pPb collisions. For AA collisions a reasonable agreement is found for both near-side and away-side angular correlations although it worsens at intermediate angles.

Inclusive cross-sections for gluon production in collision of two projectiles on two targets in the BFKL approach

Inclusive cross-sections for gluon production in collision of two mucleons with two nucleons are studied in the BFKL approach. Various contributions include emission from the pomerons attached to the participants, from the BFKL interactions in between these pomerons and from the intermediate BKP state. The last contribution may be observable provided the growth with energy of the pomeron contribution is tamed in accordance with unitarity.

On the collision of two projectiles on two targets in the BFKL approach

High-energy collisions of two nucleons on two nucleons are studied in the BFKL approach in the leading approximation in $α_sN_c$. Diagrams with redistribution of colour are considered. It is found that intermediate BKP states consisting of 4 reggeized gluons give a contribution which may be leading in deuteron-deuteron scattering and thus experimentally observable.

Anisotropic flows from colour strings: Monte-Carlo simulations

By direct Monte-Carlo simulations it is shown that the anisotropic flows can be successfully described in the colour string picture with fusion and percolation provided anisotropy of particle emission from the fused string is taken into account. Quenching of produced particles in the strong colour field of the string is the basic mechanism for this anisotropy. The concrete realization of this mechanism is borrowed from the QED. Due to dependence of this mechanism on the external field strength the found flows grow with energy, with values for $v_2$ at LHC energies greater by ~15% than at RHIC energies.

BFKL pomeron in the external field of the nucleus in (2+1)-dimensional QCD

The behaviour of the pomeron propagator in the external nuclear field is studied in the (2+1)-dimensional QCD. It is shown that in the physically interesting case when the field does not vanish at large rapidities the propagator in the field vanishes much faster than in the vacuum, in agreement with the results found in the local Regge-Gribov model. However if the nuclear field vanishes at high rapidities the field does not change the behaviour of the pomeron propagator.

On the inclusive gluon production in the Lipatov effective action formalism

The process of gluon production in quark-nucleus collisions is studied in the framework of Lipatov's effective action formalism. The relevant simplifications and rules for longitudinal integrations are discussed in detail. The results obtained with the help of these rules correspond to the purely transversal formalism based on effective vertices in the transversal space.

Production of a gluon with the exchange of three reggeized gluons in the Lipatov effective action approach

In the Regge kinematics the amplitude for gluon production off three scattering centers is found in the Lipatov effective action technique. The vertex for gluon emission with the reggeon splitting in three reggeons is calculated and its transversality is demonstrated. It is shown that in the sum of all contributions terms containing principal value singularities are cancelled and substituted by the standard Feynman poles. These results may be used for calculation of the inclusive cross-section for gluon production on two nucleons in the nucleus.

preprint2011arXiv

Gluon production on two centers and the effective action approach

Application of the effective action formalism is studied for processes in which the reggeons may split. It is shown that the gluon production on two centers is described by the contribution of the Reggeon-to-two-Reggeons-plus-Particle vertex supplemented by certain singular contributions from the double gluon exchange. The rules for longitudinal integrations are established from the comparison to perturbative QCD amplitude. Convenient expressions for application to the inclusive gluon production are derived.

A study of nucleon-deuteron elastic scattering in configuration space

A new computational method for solving the nucleon-deuteron breakup scattering problem has been applied to study the elastic neutron- and proton-deuteron scattering on the basis of the configuration-space Faddeev-Noyes-Noble-Merkuriev equations. This method is based on the spline-decomposition in the angular variable and on a generalization of the Numerov method for the hyperradius. The Merkuriev-Gignoux-Laverne approach has been generalized for arbitrary nucleon-nucleon potentials and with an arbitrary number of partial waves. The nucleon-deuteron observables at the incident nucleon energy 3 MeV have been calculated using the charge-independent AV14 nucleon-nucleon potential including the Coulomb force for the proton-deuteron scattering. Results have been compared with those of other authors and with experimental proton-deuteron scattering data.

Elliptic flow from color strings

It is shown that the elliptic flow can be successfully described in the color string picture with fusion and percolation provided anisotropy of particle emission from the fused string is taken into account. Two possible sources of this anisotropy are considered, propagation of the string in the transverse plane and quenching of produced particles in the strong color field of the string. Calculations show that the second source gives an overwhelming contribution to the flow at accessible energies.

Hadron-nucleus scattering in the local reggeon model with pomeron loops for realistic nuclei

Contribution of simplest loops for hadron-nucleus scattering cross-sections is studied in the Local Reggeon Field Theory with a supercritical pomeron. It is shown that inside the nucleus the supercritical pomeron transforms into a subcritical one, so that perturbative treatment becomes possible. The pomeron intercept becomes complex, which leads to oscillations in the cross-sections.

preprint2010arXiv

Production of two gluons in the Lipatov effective action formalism

The one-loop diffractive amplitude for emission of two real gluons with widely different rapidities is studied in the Lipatov effective action formalism. It is shown that after integration over longitudinal momenta in the loop the resulting expression coincides with the one obtained by the Lipatov-Bartels formalism in transversal space provided the same prescription is used to exclude divergent contributions as previously proposed for emission of a single real gluon.

Jet energy loss due to multiple scattering in the nucleus

Energy loss of a jet due to multiple collisions in the nuclear target is studied in the framework of the perturbative QCD with an infrared cutoff. An iterational procedure for its calculation is developed, which allows to reliably find up to 16 successive collisions in rescattering. The calculated shift of the scaling variable reaches values of the order 0.1 at medium $x$ and transverse momentum $p$ in the interval 5-10 GeV/c. The shift is found to be independent of the atomic number of the target and energy.

Pomeron loops in the perturbative QCD with Large N_c

The lowest order pomeron loop is calculated for the leading conformal weight with full dependence of the triple pomeron vertex on intermediate conformal weights. The loop is found to be convergent. Its contribution to the pomeron Green function begins to dominate already at rapidities 10$÷$15. The pomeron pole renormalization is found to be quite small due to a rapid fall of the triple pomeron vertex with rising conformal weights.

PT Symmetry and Hermithean Hamiltonian in the Local Supercritical Pomeron Model

The local reggeon field theory is studied perturbatively taking advantage of the PT symmetry in the Hamiltonian formulation. In the lowest non trivial order we show that the pomeron interactions renormalize the slope. In the same order we find a non local pair potential acting between pomerons, which has a singular structure. However the analysis of the scattering operator shows that at small coupling constant bound states do not appear so that the two-particle spectrum is not changed.

Boundary conditions in the QCD nucleus-nucleus scattering problem

In the framework of the effective field theory for interacting BFKL pomerons, applied to nucleus-nucleus scattering, boundary conditions for the classical field equations are discussed. Correspondence with the QCD diagrams at the boundary rapidities requires pomeron interaction with the participating nuclei to be exponential and non-local. Commonly used 'eikonal' boundary conditions, local and linear in fields, follow in the limit of small QCD pomeron-nucleon coupling. Numerical solution of the classical field equations, which sum all tree diagrams for central gold-gold scattering, demonstrates that corrected boundary conditions lead to substantially different results, as compared to the eikonal conditions studied in earlier publications. A breakdown of projectile-target symmetry for particular solutions discovered earlier in \cite{bom} is found to occur at roughly twice lower rapidity. Most important, due to a high non-linearity of the problem, the found asymmetric solutions are not unique but form a family growing in number with rapidity. The minimal value for the action turns out to be much lower than with the eikonal boundary conditions and saturates at rapidities around 10.

On the inclusive gluon jet production from the triple pomeron vertex in the perturbative QCD

Single and double inclusive cross-sections for gluon jet production from within the triple pomeron vertex are studied in the reggeized gluon technique. It is shown that to satisfy the AGK rules the vertex has to be fully symmetric in all four reggeized gluons which form the two final pomerons. The single inclusive cross-sections are found for different cuttings of the triple pomeron vertex. They sum into the expression obtained by Yu.Kovchegov and K.Tuchin in the colour dipole picture. The found double inclusive cross-sections satisfy the AGK rules.

On the inclusive gluon jet production off the nucleus in the perturbative QCD

In the perturbative QCD approach single and double inclusive cross-sections for gluon production off the nucleus are studied from the relevant reggeized gluon diagrams. Various terms corresponding to emission of gluons from the triple Pomeron vertex are found. Among them the term derived by Kovchegov and Tuchin emerges as a result of transition from the diffractive to effective high-energy vertex. However it does not exhaust all the vertex contributions to the inclusive cross-section. In the double inclusive cross-section a contribution violating naive AGK rules is found, in which one gluon is emitted from the vertex and the other from one of the Pomerons below the vertex. But then this contribution is subdominant at high energies and taking it into account seems to be questionable.

Pomeron fan diagrams with an infrared cutoff and running coupling

By direct numerical calculations the influence of a physically relevant infrared cutoff and running coupling on the gluon density and structure function of a large nucleus is studied in the perturbative QCD approach. It is found that the infrared cutoff changes the solutions very little. Running of the coupling produces a bigger change, considerably lowering both the saturation momentum and values of the structure functions.

Rescattering and finite formation time effects in electro-disintegration of the deuteron in the cumulative region

The role of rescattering due to the final state interaction (FSI) and the influence of the finite formation time (FFT) on the inclusive $D(e,e')X$ and exclusive $D(e,e'p)n$ electro-disintegration of the deuteron are studied in the cumulative kinematical region $x>1$ and moderate values of the 4-momentum transfer $Q^2=2÷10$ (GeV/c)$^2$. The spins are averaged out. It is found that in the inclusive process the relative magnitude of rescattering steadily grows with $x$ and that at $x=1.7$ it has the same order as the plane wave impulse approximation (PWIA) contribution, with the finite formation time effects decreasing the rescattering contribution by $\sim 30$%. In the exclusive process, with increasing momentum transfer, FFT substantially reduces the effects from FSI, although the latter are still appreciable in the region of momentum transfer investigated.

On the jet spectrum in nucleus-nucleus interactions

We derive the inclusive transverse spectrum of minijets in nuclear collisions at very high energies by assuming that the nuclear S-matrix factorizes into a product of elastic S-matrices for elementary partonic collisions. Interference effects and, in particular, the contribution of loop diagrams are fully taken into account in the derivation of the spectrum, which is shown to coincide with the result earlier obtained by superposing the elementary interactions incoherently. A quantitative analysis confirms that the deformation induced by multiple collsions is a large effect at RHIC and LHC energies, for transverse momenta ~ 20 GeV.

Nuclear Structure Functions and Heavy Flavour Leptoproduction Off the Nucleus at Small x in Perturbative QCD

Nuclear structure functions and cross-sections for heavy flavour production in lepton-nucleus collisions are investigated in the low $x$ region accessible now or in the near future. The scattering on a heavy nucleus is described by the sum of fan diagrams of BFKL pomerons, which is exact in the high-colour limit. The initial condition for the evolution at $x=0.01$ is taken from a saturation model, which reproduces the experimental data on the proton. The $A$ dependence of the structure functions is well described by a power factor $A^α$, with $α$ reaching values as low as 1/2 at extremely low $x$. The total cross-sections for heavy flavour production reach values of the order of mb, and the corresponding transverse momentum distributions are sizeable up to transverse momenta larger than the initial large scale $\sqrt{Q^2+4m_f^2}$.

Final state interaction in inclusive and exclusive quasi-elastic processes

We discuss a new approach to final state interactions, that keeps explicitly into account the virtuality of the ejected nucleon in quasi-elastic $A(e,e'p)X$ scattering at very large $Q^2$, and we present some recent results, at moderately large $Q^2$ values, for the nuclear transparency in $^4He$, $^{16}O$ and $^{40}Ca$ and for the momentum distributions of $^4He$.

Structure function of the nucleus in the perturbative QCD with $N_c\to\infty$ (BFKL pomeron fan diagrams)

Equation for the sum of BFKL pomeron fan diagrams is rederived by direct summation and solved numerically for rapidities $y\leq 50$. At high rapidities y>20 the resulting cross-sections for the scattering of a longitudinally polarized $q\bar q$ pair on the nucleus cease to depend on its transverse dimension and tend to a constant limit 0.1768 $R_A^2$, which corresponds to scattering of a colour dipole on a black disk. Thus the unitarity is restored and the singularity in the j plane is reduced to a simple pole at j=1.The nuclear structure function at small x behaves as $Q^2\ln(1/x)$. The found gluon density has a soliton-like form in the $\log k$ space: its form is close to Gaussian, independent of rapidity, the centermoving towards higher $\log k$ with a nearly constant velocity as rapidity increases.

Inplication of percolation of colour strings on multiplicities, correlations and the transverse momentum

In the colour string model the impact of string percolation on multiplicities, their long-range correlations and average transverse momentum is studied. The multiplicities are shown to be damped by a simple factor which follows from the percolation theory. A clear signature of the phase transition is found to be a behaviour of the correlations for intensive observables, such as average transverse momentum, which can be detected in the high-energy heavy ion collisions.

Direct Calculations of the Odderon Intercept in the Perturbative QCD

The odderon intercept is calculated directly, from its expression via an average energy of the odderon Hamiltonian, using both trial wave functions in the variational approach and the wave function recently constructed by R.A.Janik and J.Wosiek. The results confirm their reported value for the energy. The odderon intercept is calculated directly, from its expression via an average energy of the odderon Hamiltonian, using both trial wave functions in the variational approach and the wave function recently constructed by R.A.Janik and J.Wosiek.The results confirm their reported value for the energy. Variational calculations give energies some 30% higher. However they also predict the odderon intercept to be quite close to unity. In fact, for realistic values of $α_s$, the intercept calculated variationally is at most 2% lower than the exact one: 0.94 instead of 0.96. It is also found that the solution for $q_3=0$ does not belong to the odderon spectrum. The diffusion parameter is found to be of the order 0.6.

On the odderon intercept in QCD

The odderon singularity is studied in perturbative QCD in the framework of the Bartels-Kwieciński-Praszalowicz (BKP) equation. Arguments for the odderon intercept being exactly equal to unity are given. Besides, a variational method based on a complete system of one-gluon functions is presented. For the odderon, the highest intercept calculated by this method is $1-(N_cα_{s}/π) 0.45$. Comparison to other calculations is shown.

Probabilistic versus Field-Theoretical Description of Heavy Flavour Production off Nuclei

The absorptive corrections resulting from the rescattering of a heavy flavour (the so-called nuclear absorption) are usually calculated with a probabilistic formula valid only in the low energy limit. We extend this formula to all energies using a quantum field theoretical approach. For charmonium and bottonium we find that the absorptive corrections in the rigorous treatment are very similar to the ones in the probabilistic approach. On the contrary, at sufficiently high energy, open charm and bottom are absorbed as much as charmonium and bottonium - in spite of the fact that their absorptive cross-sections are zero, and therefore they are not absorbed in the probabilistic model. At high enough energies there are also absorptive corrections due to the shadowing of the nucleus structure function, which are present for all systems including Drell-Yan pair production. These shadowing corrections cancel in the low energy limit.

Triple pomeron vertex in the limit Nc to infinity

In the hard pomeron theory with the number of colours Nc in the infinity limit the diffractive amplitude obtained in [3] is compared with the results found for Nc=3 in [1] and in the dipole approach in [5]. It is shown that the double pomeron exchange contribution can be substituted by an equivalent triple pomeron interaction term. After such a substitution the triple pomeron vertices in [1,3,5] essentially coincide. It is demonstrated that, in any form, the triple pomeron vertex is conformal invariant. It is also shown that higher order densities in the dipole approach do not involve 1 to k pomeron verteces with k>2 but are rather given by a set of pomeron fan diagrams with only a triple pomeron coupling.

The EMC effect at low x in perturbative QCD

The EMC effect is studied in the perturbative QCD hard pomeron approach. In the limit $x\rightarrow 0$ and for a nucleus with a constant density the effect is found to be a function of a single variable which combines its $x$-, $Q$- and $A$-dependence. At large $Q^{2}$ the effect dies out as $\ln Q/Q$. At small but finite $x$ a change in the anomalous dimension leads to a weaker $Q$-dependence, which almost disappears as $x$ grows and the anomalous dimension becomes small. In this approach the nuclear structure function can be expressed directly in terms of the proton one. Calculations of the EMC effect on these lines give results which agree reasonably well to the existing experimental data for $x<0.05$.
