Fundamental Theory of Torsion Gravity

In this work we present the general differential geometry of a background in which the space-time has both torsion and curvature with internal symmetries being described by gauge fields, and that is equipped to couple spinorial matter fields having spin and energy as well as gauge currents: torsion will turn out to be equivalent to an axial-vector massive Proca field and because the spinor can be decomposed in its two chiral projections, torsion can be thought as the mediator that keeps spinors in stable configurations; we will justify this claim by studying some limiting situations. We will then proceed with a second chapter, where the material presented in the first chapter will be applied to specific systems in order to solve problems that seems to affect theories without torsion: hence the problem of gravitational singularity formation and positivity of the energy are the most important, and they will also lead the way for a discussion about the Pauli exclusion principle and the concept of macroscopic approximation. In a third and final chapter we are going to investigate in the light of torsion dynamics some of the open problems in the standard models of particles and cosmology which would not be easily solvable otherwise.

Goldstone states as non-local hidden variables

We consider the theory of spinor fields in polar form where the spinorial true degrees of freedom are isolated from their Goldstone states, and we show that these carry information about the frames which is not related to gravitation so that their propagation is not restricted to be either causal or local: we use them to build a model of entangled spins where a singlet possesses a uniform rotation that can be made to collapse for both states simultaneously regardless their spatial distance. Models of entangled polarizations with similar properties are also sketched. An analogy with the double-slit experiment is also presented. General comments on features of Goldstone states are given.

Relativistic dynamical inversion in manifestly covariant form

The Relativistic Dynamical Inversion technique, a novel tool for finding analytical solutions to the Dirac equation, is written in explicitly covariant form. It is then shown how the technique can be used to make a change from Cartesian to spherical coordinates of a given Dirac spinor. Moreover the most remarkable feature of the new method, which is the ease of performing non-trivial change of reference frames, is demonstrated. Such a feature constitutes a potentially powerful tool for finding novel solutions to the Dirac equation. Furthermore, a whole family of normalizable analytic solutions to the Dirac equation is constructed. More specifically, we find exact solutions for the case of a Dirac electron in the presence of a magnetic field as well as a novel solution comprising of a combination of a spherically symmetric electric field and magnetic fields. These solutions shed light on the possibility of separating the positive and negative energy parts of localized Dirac spinors in the presence as well as in the absence of magnetic fields. The presented solutions provide an illustration of the connection between the geometrical properties of the spinor and spin-orbit coupling for normalizable spinorial wave functions.

Polar analysis of the Dirac equation through dimensions

We consider the polar form of the spinor field equation in an n-dimensional space-time, studying the way in which the space-time dimension influences the number of the independent field equations and the number of the degrees of freedom of the spinor field written in the polar form: we will find that this polar form is the clearest tool to make manifest the fact that the degrees of freedom of the spinor field and the independent field equations match in dimensions 4 and 8 alone while in all the other instances there will be problems of general under-determination or over-determination.

Axially-Symmetric Exact Solutions for Flagpole Fermions with Gravity

The Lounesto classification splits spinors in six classes: I, II, III are those for which at least one among scalar and pseudo-scalar bi-linear spinor quantities is non-zero, its spinors are called regular, and among them we find the usual Dirac spinor. IV, V, VI are those for which the scalar and pseudo-scalar bi-linear spinor quantities are identically zero, its spinors are called singular, and they are split in further sub-classes: IV has no further restrictions, its spinors are called flag-dipole; V is the one for which the spin axial-vector vanishes, its spinors are called flagpole, and among them we find the Majorana spinor; VI is the one for which the momentum antisymmetric-tensor vanishes, its spinors are called dipole, and among them we find the Weyl spinor. In the quest for exact solutions of fully-coupled systems of spinor fields in their own gravity, we have already given examples in the case of Dirac fields and Weyl fields but never in the case of Majorana or more generally flagpole spinor fields. Flagpole spinor fields in interaction with their own gravitational field, in the case of axial symmetry, will be considered. Exact solutions of the field equations will be given.

Geometry, Zitterbewegung, Quantization

In the most general geometric background, we study Dirac spinor fields with particular emphasis given to the explicit form of their gauge momentum and the way in which this can be inverted so to give the expression of the corresponding velocity; we study how zitterbewegung affects the motion of particles, focusing on the internal dynamics involving the chiral parts; we discuss the connections to field quantization, sketching in what way anomalous terms may be gotten eventually.

Non-Trivial Effects of Sourceless Forces for Spinors: Toward an Aharonov-Bohm gravitational effect?

Spinor fields are written in polar form so as to compute their tensorial connection, an object that contains the same information of the connection but which is also proven to be a real tensor. From this, one can still compute the Riemann curvature, encoding the information about gravity. But even in absence of gravity, when the Riemann curvature vanishes, it may still be possible that the tensorial connection remains different from zero, and this can have effects on matter. This is shown with examples in the two known integrable cases: the hydrogen atom and the harmonic oscillator. The fact that a spinor can feel effects due to sourceless actions is already known in electrodynamics as the Aharonov-Bohm phenomenon. A parallel between the electrodynamics case and the situation encountered here will be drawn. Some ideas about relativistic effects and their role for general treatments of quantum field theories are also underlined.

Critical exact solutions for self-gravitating Dirac fields

We consider the Einstein-Dirac field equations describing a self-gravitating massive neutrino, looking for axially-symmetric exact solutions; in the search of general solutions, we find some that are specific and which have critical features, such as the fact that the space-time curvature turns out to be flat and the spinor field gives rise to a vanishing bi-linear scalar $\overlineψψ=0$ with non-vanishing bi-linear pseudo-scalar $i\overlineψγ^5ψ\not=0$: because in quantum field theory general computational methods are built on plane-wave solutions, for which bi-linear pseudo-scalar vanishes while the bi-linear scalar does not vanish, then the solutions we found cannot be treated with the usual machinery of quantum field theory. This means that for the Einstein-Dirac system there exist admissible solutions which nevertheless cannot be quantized with the common prescriptions; we regard this situation as yet another issue of tension between Einstein gravity and quantum principles. Possible ways to quench this tension can be seen either in enlarging the validity of quantum field theory or by restricting the space of the solutions of the Einstein-Dirac system of field equations.

Exact solutions for Weyl fermions with gravity

We consider the single-handed spinor field in interaction with its own gravitational field described by the set of field equations given by Weyl field equations written in terms of derivatives that are covariant with respect to the gravitational connection plus Einstein field equations soured with the energy tensor of the spinor: for the Weyl spinor and the ensuing spacetime of Weyl-Lewis-Papapetrou structure, we will find all exact solutions. The obtained solution for the metric tensor is that of a PP-wave spacetime while the spinor field is a flag-dipole.

A discussion on the most general torsion-gravity with electrodynamics for Dirac spinor matter fields

We consider the most general torsional completion of gravitation together with electrodynamics for the Dirac spinorial material fields, and we show that consistency arguments constrain torsion to be completely antisymmetric and the dynamics to be parity-invariant and described by actions that are either least-order derivative or renormalizable.

Conformal Gravity with Dirac Matter

Recently, we have constructed the conformal gravity with metric and torsion, finding the gravitational field equations that give the conservation laws and trace condition; in the present paper we apply this theory to the case of the Dirac matter field: we shall see that in this case the trace condition becomes trivial, but further constraints arise, which will impose severe limitations on the dynamics of such a system.

Conformal Gravity with the most general ELKO Matter

Recently we have constructed the conformal gravity with metric and torsion, finding the gravitational field equations that give the conservation laws and trace condition; in the present paper we apply this theory to the case of ELKO matter field, proving that their spin and energy densities once the matter field equations are considered imply the validity of the conservation laws and trace condition mentioned above.

preprint2014arXiv

Continuity of the torsionless limit as a selection rule for gravity theories with torsion

While one can in principle augment gravity theory with torsion, it is generally thought that any such torsion affects would be too small to be of consequence. Here we show that this cannot in general be the case. We show that the limit of vanishing torsion is not necessarily a continuous one, with the theory obtained in the limit not necessarily coinciding with the theory in which torsion had never been present at all. However, for a standard torsion tensor that is antisymmetric in two of its indices we have found two cases in which the vanishing torsion limit is in fact continuous, namely Einstein gravity and conformal gravity. For other gravity theories of common interest to possess a continuous limit the torsion tensor would need to be antisymmetric in all three of its indices.

ELKO and Dirac Spinors seen from Torsion

In this paper, the recently-introduced ELKO and the well-known Dirac spinor fields will be compared; however, instead of comparing them under the point of view of their algebraic properties or their dynamical features, we will proceed by investigating the analogies and similarities in terms of their geometrical character viewed from the perspective of torsion. The paper will be concluded by sketching some consequences for the application to cosmology and particle physics.

Least-Order Torsion-Gravity for Chiral-Spinor Fields, induced Self-Interacting Potentials and Parity Conservation

We will consider the most general least-order derivative action for the torsional completion of gravitational backgrounds filled with left-handed and right-handed semi-spinorial fields, accounting for all parity-even as well as parity-odd contributions; we will proceed by performing the customary analysis, decomposing torsion and substituting it in terms of the semi-spinorial density currents, in order to obtain the effective action with the torsionally-induced self-interacting potentials among the chiral fermionic fields: we shall see that the resulting effective non-linear potentials will turn eventually out to be parity conserving after all.

preprint2014arXiv

Least-Order Torsion-Gravity for Dirac Fields, and their Non-Linearity terms

We will consider the most general least-order torsional completion of gravity with electrodynamics for the Dirac matter fields, and we study the effects that the torsion-spin coupling will have in inducing self-interactions among the fermion fields themselves; we will see that such self-interactions of fermions have effects analogous to those of the field-quantization prescription, and we will study the way in which they can give rise to matter distributions that are localized in a compact region and stable under the influence of perturbations.

Least-Order Torsion-Gravity for Fermion Fields, and the Non-Linear Potentials in the Standard Models

We will consider the least-order torsional completion of gravity for a spacetime filled with fermionic Dirac matter fields, and we study the effects of the background-induced non-linear potentials for the matter field themselves in view of their effects for both standard models of physics: from the one of cosmology to that of particles, we will discuss the mechanisms of generation of the cosmological constant and particle masses as well as the phenomenology of leptonic weak-like forces and neutrino oscillations, the problem of zero-point energy, how there can be neutral massive fields as candidates for dark matter, and avoidance of gravitational singularity formation; we will show the way in which all these different effects can nevertheless be altogether described in terms of just a single model, which will be thoroughly discussed in the end.

Metric-Torsional Conformal Gravity

When in general geometric backgrounds the metric is accompanied by torsion, the metric conformal properties should correspondingly be followed by analogous torsional conformal properties; however a combined metric torsional conformal structure has never been found which provides a curvature that is both containing metric-torsional degree of freedom and conformally invariant: in this paper we construct such a metric-torsional conformal curvature. We proceed by building the most general action, then deriving the most general system of field equations; we check their consistency by showing that both conservation laws and trace condition are verified. Final considerations and comments are outlined.

On a purely geometric approach to the Dirac matter field and its quantum properties

We consider the most general axial torsion completion of gravity with electrodynamics for $\frac{1}{2}$-spin spinors in an $8$-dimensional representation of the Dirac matter field: this theory will allow to define antimatter as matter with all quantum numbers reversed, where also the sign of the mass beside that of the charge is inverted: we shall see that matter and antimatter solutions of the Dirac field equations coincide with the known ones with respect to all observables, that despite the inversion of the sign of the mass term only positive-mass states are present and only positive-energy densities are given; the present and the common approach will be compared, and some experimental implications will be discussed.

On Geometrically Unified Fields and Universal Constants

We consider the Cartan extension of Riemann geometry as the basis upon which to build the Sciama--Kibble completion of Einstein gravity, developing the most general theory in which torsion and metric have two independent coupling constants: the main problem of the ESK theory was that torsion, having the Newton constant, was negligible beyond the Planck scale, but in this $\mathrm{ESK}^{2}$ theory torsion, with its own coupling constant, may be relevant much further Planck scales; further consequences of these torsionally-induced interactions will eventually be discussed.

preprint2014arXiv

On the geometry of the Dirac matter with the Fermionic potentials and its quantum properties

We consider the torsional completion of gravity with electrodynamics for Dirac matter fields; we will see that these Dirac matter field equations will develop torsionally-induced non-linear interactions, which can be manipulated in order to be rearranged in the form of self-fermion potentials of a specific structure: eventually we will see that these non-linear interactions result into dynamical effects that are formally equivalent to those due to the quantum corrections.

Renormalizability of the Dirac Equation in Torsion-Gravity with Non-Minimal Coupling

We will consider the torsional completion of gravity for a background filled with Dirac matter fields, studying what happens when fermionic non-minimal coupling is taken into account: we will show that, although non-minimal couplings are usually disregarded because of their ill-defined behaviour in ultraviolet regimes, this is due to the fact that torsion is commonly neglected, whereas when torsion is not left aside, even non-minimal couplings behave properly. In detail, we will see that non-minimal coupling allows to renormalize the Dirac equation even when torsion is taken into consideration and that in some type of non-minimally coupled models parity-oddness might be present even in the gravitational sector. In addition, we will show that in the presence of the considered non-minimal coupling, torsion is able to evade cosmological singularities as it can happen in the minimal coupling case and in some other non--minimally coupled theory. In the course of the paper, we shall consider a specific interaction as prototype to study this fermionic non-minimal coupling, but we will try to present results that do not depend on the actual structure of the non-minimal couplings by investigating alternative types of interaction.

Torsion-Gravity for Dirac fields and their effective phenomenology

We will consider the torsional completion of gravity for a background filled with Dirac matter fields, studying the weak-gravitational non-relativistic approximation, in view of an assessment about their effective phenomenology: we discuss how the torsionally-induced non-linear interactions among fermion fields in this limit are compatible with all experiments, and remarks on the role of torsion to suggest new physics are given.

A modified theory of gravity with torsion and its applications to cosmology and particle physics

In this paper we consider the most general least-order derivative theory of gravity in which not only curvature but also torsion is explicitly present in the Lagrangian, and where all independent fields have their own coupling constant: we will apply this theory to the case of ELKO fields, which is the acronym of the German \textit{Eigenspinoren des LadungsKonjugationsOperators} designating eigenspinors of the charge conjugation operator, and thus they are a Majorana-like special type of spinors; and to the Dirac fields, the most general type of spinors. We shall see that because torsion has a coupling constant that is still undetermined, the ELKO and Dirac field equations are endowed with self-interactions whose coupling constant is undetermined: we discuss different applications according to the value of the coupling constants and the different properties that consequently follow. We highlight that in this approach, the ELKO and Dirac field's self-interactions depend on the coupling constant as a parameter that may even make these non-linearities manifest at subatomic scales.

Conformal Gravity with Electrodynamics for Fermion Fields and their Symmetry Breaking Mechanism

In this paper we consider an axial torsion to build metric-compatible connections in conformal gravity, with gauge potentials; the geometric background is filled with Dirac spinors: scalar fields with suitable potentials are added eventually. The system of field equations is worked out to have torsional effects converted into spinorial self-interactions: the massless spinors display self-interactions of a specific form that gives them the features they have in the non-conformal theory but with the additional character of renormalizability, and the mechanisms of generation of mass and cosmological constants become dynamical. As a final step we will address the cosmological constant and coincidence problems.

Flag-Dipole Spinor Fields in ESK Gravities

We consider the Riemann-Cartan geometry as a basis for the Einstein-Sciama-Kibble theory coupled to spinor fields: we focus on $f(R)$ and conformal gravities, regarding the flag-dipole spinor fields, type-(4) spinor fields under the Lounesto classification. We study such theories in specific cases given for instance by cosmological scenarios: we find that in such background the Dirac equation admits solutions that are not Dirac spinor fields, but in fact the aforementioned flag-dipoles ones. These solutions are important from a theoretical perspective, as they evince that spinor fields are not necessarily determined by their dynamics, but also a discussion on their structural (algebraic) properties must be carried off. Furthermore, the phenomenological point of view is shown to be also relevant, since for isotropic Universes they circumvent the question whether spinor fields do undergo the Cosmological Principle.

The dynamics of Bianchi I universes in $R^n$ cosmologies with torsion

We analyze the phase space of Bianchi I cosmologies filled by a spin fluid in the framework of $f(R)$-gravity with torsion using a combination of the dynamical systems approach and the 1+3 covariant formalism. In the simple case of $f(R)=R^n$ our results allow a quantification of the role of torsion and the spin of the cosmic fluid in the evolution of the cosmology. While torsion is able to modify the cosmological dynamics with respect to the purely metric case, the spin has little influence on the cosmology. We argue that this is due to the different symmetries of the tensor characterizing the anisotropies and the spin tensor. The cosmological model we analyzed presents isotropization for a wide set of initial conditions and values of the parameters and allows for two types of exotic bounce solutions.

Weak Forces and Neutrino Oscillations under the standards of Hybrid Gravity with Torsion

We present a unifying approach where weak forces and neutrino oscillations are interpreted under the same standards of torsional hybrid gravity. This gravitational theory mixes metric and metric-affine formalism in presence of torsion and allows to derive an effective scalar field which gives rise to a running coupling for Dirac matter fields. In this picture, two phenomena occurring at different energy scales can be encompassed under the dynamics of such a single scalar field, which represents the further torsional and curvature degrees of freedom.

A square-torsion modification of Einstein-Cartan theory

In the present paper we consider a theory of gravity in which not only curvature but also torsion is explicitly present in the Lagrangian, both with their own coupling constant. In particular, we discuss the couplings to Dirac fields and spin fluids: in the case of Dirac fields, we discuss how in our approach, the Dirac self-interactions depend on the coupling constant as a parameter that may even make these non-linearities manifest at subatomic scales, showing different applications according to the value of the parameter we have assigned; in the case of spin fluids, we discuss FLRW cosmological models arising from the proposed theory.

A Torsional Model of Leptons

Quite recently it was shown that torsion induces interactions among leptons that are identical to the weak interactions of leptons of the Weinberg standard model, if it is in terms of leptonic bound states that the bosonic sector is built: here we obtain the partially conserved axial currents showing that they are the same of the standard model, if the composite mediators have specific mass relationships: we show that their masses are indeed the measured ones, if reasonable approximations are taken.

Gravitationally Generated Interactions

Starting from a 5D-Riemannian manifold, we show that a reduction mechanism to 4D-spacetimes reproduces Extended Theories of Gravity (ETGs) that are direct generalizations of Einstein's gravity. In this context, the gravitational degrees of freedom can be dealt under the standard of spacetime deformations. Besides, such deformations can be related to the mass spectra of particles. The intrinsic non-linearity of ETGs gives an energy-dependent running coupling, while torsion gives rise to interactions among spinors displaying the structure of the weak forces among fermions. We discuss how this scheme is compatible with the known observational evidence and suggest that eventual discrepancies could be detected in experiments, as ATLAS and CMS, today running at LHC (CERN). We finally discuss the consequences of the present approach in view of unification of physical interactions.

Hadronic Electroweak Spin-Torsion Interactions

In a previous paper we considered the most general field equations for a system of two fermions of which one single-handed, showing that the spin-torsion interactions among these spinors had the same structure of the electroweak forces among leptons; in this paper we consider the most general field equations for a system of two fermions, showing that the spin-torsion interactions among these spinors have a structure similar to that of the electroweak forces among hadrons: possible differences are discussed, and consequently further extensions are speculated.

Massless Fermion Mixing for Semispinorial Torsional Interaction

We consider a geometric approach to field theory in which torsion is present in the matter field equations, and we develop the consequences of the torsion-spin coupling for a pair of single-handed spinors; we show these interactions to have the structure of a flavour-changing neutral current giving rise to a mixing for two massless fermion fields: as torsional interactions for semispinors entail mixing for massless fermions we speculate that this mechanism could be responsible for oscillations of neutrinos.

On geometric relativistic foundations of matter field equations and plane wave solutions

In this paper, we start from the geometric relativistic foundations to define the basis upon which matter field theories are built, and their wave solutions are investigated, finding that they display repulsive interactions able to reproduce the exclusion principle in terms of its effects in a dynamical way, then discussing possible consequences and problems.

On the problem of Unicity in Einstein-Sciama-Kibble Theory

We consider the ESK theory, based on the principle for which the space is filled with matter fields in such a way that Cartan torsion is spin; in the geometry in which Cartan torsion tensor is completely antisymmetric, spin has to be completely antisymmetric: we will show how the complete antisymmetry of spin constraints the form of possible matter field theories as to allow the special case of the simplest one solely, all other most general cases being excluded.

Running coupling in electroweak interactions of leptons from f(R)-gravity with torsion

The f(R)-gravitational theory with torsion is considered for one family of leptons; it is found that the torsion tensor gives rise to interactions having the structure of the weak forces while the intrinsic non-linearity of the f(R) function provides an energy-dependent coupling: in this way, torsional f(R) gravity naturally generates both structure and strength of the electroweak interactions among leptons. This implies that the weak interactions among the lepton fields could be addressed as a geometric effect due to the interactions among spinors induced by the presence of torsion in the most general f(R) gravity. Phenomenological considerations are addressed.

Spin fluids in Bianchi-I f(R)-cosmology with torsion

We study Weyssenhoff spin fluids in Bianchi type-I cosmological models, within the framework of torsional f(R)-gravity; the resulting field equations are derived and discussed in both Jordan and Einstein frames, clarifying the role played by the spin and the non-linearity of the gravitational Lagrangian f(R) in generating the torsional dynamical contributions. The general conservation laws holding for f(R)-gravity with torsion are employed to provide the conditions needed to ensure the preservation of the Hamiltonian constraint and the consequent correct formulation of the associated initial value problem. Examples are eventually given.

Dirac fields in f(R)-gravity with torsion

We study f(R)-gravity with torsion in presence of Dirac massive fields. Using the Bianchi identities, we formulate the conservation laws of the theory and we check the consistency with the matter field equations. Further, we decompose the field equations in torsionless and torsional terms: we show that the non-linearity of the gravitational Lagrangian reduces to the presence of a scalar field that depends on the spinor field; this additional scalar field gives rise to an effective stress-energy tensor and plays the role of a scale factor modifying the normalization of Dirac fields. Problems for fermions regarding the positivity of energy and the particle-antiparticle duality are discussed.

Dirac spinors in Bianchi-I f(R)-cosmology with torsion

We study Dirac spinors in Bianchi type-I cosmological models, within the framework of torsional $f(R)$-gravity. We find four types of results: the resulting dynamic behavior of the universe depends on the particular choice of function $f(R)$; some $f(R)$ models do not isotropize and have no Einstein limit, so that they have no physical significance, whereas for other $f(R)$ models isotropization and Einsteinization occur, and so they are physically acceptable, suggesting that phenomenological arguments may select $f(R)$ models that are physically meaningful; the singularity problem can be avoided, due to the presence of torsion; the general conservation laws holding for $f(R)$-gravity with torsion ensure the preservation of the Hamiltonian constraint, so proving that the initial value problem is well-formulated for these models.

From the Torsion Tensor for Spinors to the Weak Forces for Leptons

We consider a geometric approach to field theory in which torsion is present beside gravity and also electrodynamics for the matter field equations, and we develop the consequences of the torsion-spin coupling for the spinor fields; we show that these interactions have the structure of the weak interactions acting among leptons: we discuss the implications for the standard model of fundamental interactions of elementary fields in the perspective of the foundations of unification in theoretical physics.

Monochromatic plane-fronted waves in conformal gravity are pure gauge

We consider plane-fronted, monochromatic gravitational waves on a Minkowski background, in a conformally invariant theory of general relativity. By this we mean waves of the form: $g_{μν}=η_{μν}+ε_{μν}F(k\cdotx)$, where $ε_{μν}$ is a constant polarization tensor, and $k_μ$ is a lightlike vector. We also assume the coordinate gauge condition $|g|-1/4\partial_τ(|g|1/4g^{στ})=0$ which is the conformal analog of the harmonic gauge condition $g^{μν}Γ_{μν}^σ=-|g|-1/2\partial_τ(|g|1/2g^{στ})=0, where $\det[g_{μν}]\equivg$. Requiring additionally the conformal gauge condition $g=-1$ surprisingly implies that the waves are both transverse and traceless. Although the ansatz for the metric is eminently reasonable when considering perturbative gravitational waves, we show that the metric is reducible to the metric of Minkowski space-time via a sequence of coordinate transformations which respect the gauge conditions, without any perturbative approximation that \inμν be small. This implies that we have, in fact, exact plane-wave solutions; however, they are simply coordinate/conformal artifacts. As a consequence, they carry no energy. Our result does not imply that conformal gravity does not have gravitational wave phenomena. A different, more generalized ansatz for the deviation, taking into account the fourth-order nature of the field equation, which has the form $g_{μν}=η_{μν}+B_{μν}(n\cdotx)G(k\cdotx)$, indeed yields waves which carry energy and momentum [P.D. Mannheim, Gen. Relativ. Gravit. 43, 703 (2010)]. It is just surprising that transverse, traceless, plane-fronted gravitational waves, those that would be used in any standard, perturbative, quantum analysis of the theory, simply do not exist.

The most general cosmological dynamics for ELKO Matter Fields

Not long ago, the definition of eigenspinors of charge-conjugation belonging to a special Wigner class has lead to the unexpected theoretical discovery of a form of matter with spin 1/2 and mass dimension 1, called ELKO matter field; ELKO matter fields defined in flat spacetimes have been later extended to curved and twisted spacetimes, in order to include in their dynamics the coupling to gravitational fields possessing both metric and torsional degrees of freedom: the inclusion of non-commuting spinorial covariant derivatives allows for the introduction of more general dynamical terms influencing the behaviour of ELKO matter fields. In this paper, we shall solve the theoretical problem of finding the most general dynamics for ELKO matter, and we will face the phenomenological issue concerning how the new dynamical terms may affect the behaviour of ELKO matter; we will see that new effects will arise for which the very existence of ELKO matter will be endangered, due to the fact that ELKOs will turn incompatible with the cosmological principle. Thus we have that anisotropic universes must be taken into account if ELKOs are to be considered in their most general form.

Zero Energy of Plane-Waves for ELKOs

We consider the ELKO field in interaction through contorsion with its own spin density, and we investigate the form of the consequent autointeractions; to do so we take into account the high-density limit and find plane wave solutions: such plane waves give rise to contorsional autointeractions for which the Ricci metric curvature vanishes and therefore the energy density is equal to zero identically. Consequences are discussed.

Geometrical Properties and Propagation for the Proca Field Theory

We consider the Proca field with dynamical term given by the exterior derivative with respect to the most general connection; the most general Proca field equations are given, and a discussion about the propagation and the geometrical properties are presented: it is shown that this generalization is inconsistent. So the standard theory is already the most general Proca Theory possible.
