Towards the Natural Gauge Mediation

The sweet spot supersymmetry (SUSY) solves the mu problem in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with gauge mediated SUSY breaking (GMSB) via the generalized Giudice-Masiero (GM) mechanism where only the mu-term and soft Higgs masses are generated at the unification scale of the Grand Unified Theory (GUT) due to the approximate PQ symmetry. Because all the other SUSY breaking soft terms are generated via the GMSB below the GUT scale, there exists SUSY electroweak (EW) fine-tuning problem to explain the 125 GeV Higgs boson mass due to small trilinear soft term. Thus, to explain the Higgs boson mass, we propose the GMSB with both the generalized GM mechanism and Higgs-messenger interactions. The renormalization group equations are runnings from the GUT scale down to EW scale. So the EW symmetry breaking can be realized easier. We can keep the gauge coupling unification and solution to the flavor problem in the GMSB, as well as solve the μ/B_μ-problem. Moreover, there are only five free parameters in our model. So we can determine the characteristic low energy spectra and explore its distinct phenomenology. The low-scale fine-tuning measure can be as low as 20 with the light stop mass below 1 TeV and gluino mass below 2 TeV. The gravitino dark matter can come from a thermal production with the correct relic density and be consistent with the thermal leptogenesis. Because gluino and stop can be relatively light in our model, how to search for such GMSB at the upcoming run II of the LHC experiment could be very interesting.

Light Top Squark in Precision Top Quark Sample

The uncertainty of $t\bar{t}$ production cross section measurement at LHC is at a-few-percent level which still allows the stop pair production $\tilde{t}\tilde{t}^{*}$ with identical final states $2b+\ell+nj+{E}_{T}$. In this paper, we attempt to use the existing measurement of $W$-polarization in top quark decay to improve the distinction between stop and top quark states. We apply the ATLAS $χ^2$ method of $W$-polarization measurement in semi-leptonic $t\bar{t}$ final state to semi-leptonic stop pair samples and study its prediction. We find that the faked top events from stop mostly contribute to the left-handed polarized $W$ due to the reconstruction. The benchmark point with maximal contribution to top events only changes $F_{L}$ by 1%. After comparing with the current experiments, we conclude that the current measurement of $W$-polarization in $t$ decay cannot exclude the light stop scenario.

Neutralino Dark Matter in Gauge Mediation After Run I of LHC and LUX

Neutralino can be the dark matter candidate in the gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models if the conformal sequestered mechanism is assumed in the hidden sector. In this paper, we study this mechanism by using the current experimental results after the run I of LHC and LUX. By adding new Yukawa couplings between the messenger fields and Higgs fields, we find that this mechanism can predict a neutralino dark matter with correct relic density and a Higgs boson with mass around 125 GeV. All our survived points have some common features. Firstly, the Higgs sector falls into the decoupling limit. So the properties of the light Higgs boson are similar to the predictions of the Standard Model one. Secondly, the correct EWSB hints a relatively small $μ$-term, which makes the lightest neutralino lighter than the lightest stau. So a bino-higgsino dark matter with correct relic density can be achieved. And the relatively small $μ$-term results in a small fine-tuning. Finally, this bino-higgsino dark matter can pass all current bounds, including both spin-independent and spin-dependent direct searches. The spin-independent cross section of our points can be examined by further experiments.

Is polarization effect visible in leptonic SUSY searches?

On-shell effective theory approach has been widely used in search of various supersymmetric signals, in particular, gluino/squark pairs with long cascade decay chains in which complete matrix element calculations may encounter over-20 dimensional integrations. On the other hand, leptons from polarized chargino decays may show significant boost or anti-boost effect in some scenarios and simulation without polarization information may underestimate or overestimate the lepton $p_{T}$ cut efficiencies in the first place. We study the polarization effects in supersymmetry searches of multi-jets plus leptons final states. We find it justifiable for first two generations to only use on-shell effective theories. While for measurements related to third generation squarks, for instance, polarization effect of charginos from stop may reduce the lepton $p_{T}$ cut efficiencies in cross section measurements by $25\%$ when slepton contributions dominate in chargino decay or $W$ are on-shell. The signal is then underestimated if only on-shell effective theory approach is taken in simulation of signal and the real bound on squark/gluino should be more stringent.

Revisit to Non-decoupling MSSM

Dipole operator $\bar{s}σ_{μν}F^{μν}b$ requires the helicity flip in the involving quark states thus the breaking of chiral $U(3)_{Q}\times U(3)_{d}$. On the other hand, the $b$-quark mass generation is also a consequence of chiral $U(3)_{Q}\times U(3)_{d}$ symmetry breaking. Therefore, in many models, there might be strong correlation between the $b\to sγ$ and $b$ quark Yukawa coupling. We use non-decoupling MSSM model to illustrate this feature. The light Higgs boson may evade the direct search experiments at LEPII or Tevatron while the 125 GeV Higgs-like boson is identified as the heavy Higgs boson in the spectrum. A light charged Higgs is close to the heavy Higgs boson which is of 125 GeV and its contribution to $b\to s γ$ requires large supersymmetric correction with large PQ and $R$ symmetry breaking. The large supersymmetric contribution at the same time significantly modifies the $b$ quark Yukawa co upling. With combined flavor constraints $B\to X_{s}γ$ and $B_{s}\to μ^{+}μ^{-}$ and direct constraints on Higgs properties, we find best fit scenarios with light stop of $\cal O$(500 GeV), negative $A_{t}$ around -750 GeV and large $μ$-term of 2-3 TeV. In addition, reduction in $b\bar{b}$ partial width may also result in large enhancement of $ττ$ decay branching fraction. Large parameter region in the survival space under all bounds may be further constrained by $H\to ττ$ if no excess of $ττ$ is confirmed at LHC. We only identify a small parameter region with significant $H\to hh$ decay that is consistent with all bounds and reduced $ττ$ decay branching fraction.

A Model Independent Method to Study Dark Matter induced Leptons and Gamma rays

By using recent data, we directly determine the dark matter (DM) induced $e^\pm$ spectrum at the source from experimental measurements at the earth, without reference to specific particle physics models. The DM induced gamma rays emitted via inverse Compton scattering are then obtained in a model independent way. However the results depend on the choice of the astrophysical $e^\pm$ background, which is not reliably known. Nevertheless, we calculate, as an illustration, the fluxes of gamma rays from the Fornax cluster in the decaying DM scenario with various astrophysical $e^\pm$ backgrounds. Without any assumptions on details of the DM model, the predictions turn out to be either in disagreement with or only marginally below the upper limits measured recently by the Fermi-LAT Collaboration. In addition, these DM induced ICS gamma rays in the GeV range are shown to be almost independent of choices of cosmic ray propagation model and of DM density profile, when a given astrophysical $e^\pm$ background is assumed. This provides a strong constraint on decaying DM scenario as the gamma rays may be produced in other processes besides inverse Compton scattering, such as the bremsstrahlung and neutral pion decays.

Identities in Nonlinear Realizations of Supersymmetry

In this paper, we emphasize that a UV SUSY-breaking theory can be realized either linearly or nonlinearly. Both realizations form the dual descriptions of the UV SUSY-breaking theory. Guided by this observation, we find subtle identities involving the Goldstino field and matter fields in the standard nonlinear realization from trivial ones in the linear realization. Rather complicated integrands in the standard nonlinear realization are identified as total-divergences. Especially, identities only involving the Goldstino field reveal the self-consistency of the Grassmann algebra. As an application of these identities, we prove that the nonlinear Kahler potential without or with gauge interactions is unique, if the corresponding linear one is fixed. Our identities pick out the total-divergence terms and guarantee this uniqueness.

Searching SUSY Leptonic Partner at the CERN LHC

Motivated by the observed excess of the di-photon signal in Higgs searches, $σ_{γγ}/σ_{\rm SM}\simeq 1.5$, we argue that models with enhanced $Γ(h\to γγ)$ alone are the most favorable scenarios when the latest LHC/Tevatron results are all taken into account. We study the phenomenology of a supersymmetric scenario of light stau first proposed by \textit{Carena et. al. \cite{carlos}} that predicts a 125 GeV SM-like Higgs boson with enhanced diphoton decay through light stau loops. Since it is extremely challenging to search the Drell-Yan stau pair at the LHC due to the small production rate, we focus on the parameter space with enhanced production of inclusive stau pairs, in particular, via $b\bar{b}$ fusion or gaugino pairs. We study its phenomenology in both pure leptonic tau $τ^\pm_\ell$ channels and hadronic tau tagged $τ_h$ channels. We find the same-sign dilepton from $\tildeχ^\pm_1 \tildeχ^0_2 \to τ^\pm_\ell τ^\pm_\ell+X$ may significantly improve the discovery potential with even 7--8 TeV LHC of ${\cal O}(30 \text{fb}^{-1})$ data. In the case of hadronic tau pair, we use the final state $j+τ_h τ_h +\cancel{E}_T$ to search and find that even with the most optimistic region of $M_2\sim 200-300$ GeV, it requires at least 50 fb$^{-1}$ data of 14 TeV LHC to reach a significance of 3.5 $σ$. Therefore, we conclude it is difficult to claim discovery only through hadronic tau based on the data by the 2012 shut-down. 5 $σ$ reach for our most optimistic region then requires 100 fb$^{-1}$ data with 14 TeV running.

What if bb does not dominate the decay of the Higgs-like boson?

The dominant decay mode of standard model Higgs at 126 GeV $b\bar{b}$ suffers from severe SM background at the LHC even in associated productions $Wh_{\rm SM}$ or $Z h_{\rm SM}$. The precision measurement of BR($ϕ\to b\bar{b})$ requires more data to reduce its large error bar. We investigate the possibility of this channel with largest uncertainty not dominating the decay of Higgs-like boson discovered at the LHC. In such scenarios, the Higgs signal shows highly suppressed $b\bar{b}$, slightly reduced $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ and moderately enhanced gauge bosons comparing with the SM predictions. The model requires two different sources of electroweak symmetry breaking and radiative correction to $m_{b}$ strongly enhanced. However, large reduction in $b\bar{b}$ usually results large enhancement in $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ mode in particular. The reduction of $τ^{+}τ^{-}$ therefore implies that a new decay mode is inevitable. We find that a non-decoupling MSSM Higgs decay into lighter Higgs $H\to hh$ may fit the signature. Here, MSSM $H$ is identified as the 126 GeV resonance while $h$ is below $M_{H}/2$ and can evade the direct search bound at LEPII and Tevatron. Large $PQ$ and $R$ symmetry breaking effects mediated by strong interaction can strongly enhance radiative corrections in $m_b$. However, the scenario can only be realized in highly fine-tuned parameter region where $G_{Hhh}$ is tiny. Nevertheless, we discuss the discovery potential of this highly fine-tuned $H\to hh$ at the LHC.

Gamma-rays from Nearby Clusters: Constraints on Selected Decaying Dark Matter Models

Recently, the Fermi-LAT collaboration reported upper limits on the GeV gamma-ray flux from nearby clusters of galaxies. Motivated by these limits, we study corresponding constraints on gamma-ray emissions from two specific decaying dark matter models, one via grand unification scale suppressed operators and the other via R-parity violating operators. Both can account for the PAMELA and Fermi-LAT excesses of e^\pm. For GUT decaying dark matter, the gamma-rays from the M49 and Fornax clusters, with energy in the range of 1 to 10 GeV, lead to the most stringent constraints to date. As a result, this dark matter is disfavored with conventional model of e^\pm background. In addition, it is likely that some tension exists between the Fermi-LAT e^\pm excess and the gamma ray constraints for any decaying dark matter model, provided conventional model of e^\pm background is adopted. Nevertheless, the GUT decaying dark matter can still solely account for the PAMELA positron fraction excess without violating the gamma-ray constraints. For the gravitino dark matter model with R-parity violation, cluster observations do not give tight constraints. This is because a different e^\pm background has been adopted which leads to relatively light dark matter mass around 200 GeV.

Leading-Order Actions of Goldstino Fields

This paper starts with a self-contained discussion of the so-called Akulov-Volkov action S_AV, which is traditionally taken to be the leading-order action of Goldstino field. Explicit expressions for S_AV and its chiral version S_AV^ch are presented. We then turn to the issue on how these actions are related to the leading-order action S_NL proposed in the newly proposed constrained superfield formalism. We show that S_NL may yield S_AV/S_AV^ch or a totally different action S_KS, depending on how the auxiliary field in the former is integrated out. However, S_KS and S_AV/S_AV^ch always yield the same S-matrix elements, as one would have expected from general considerations in quantum field theory.

Decaying Dark Matter in Supersymmetric SU(5) Models

Motivated by recent observations from Pamela, Fermi and H.E.S.S., we consider dark matter decays in the framework of supersymmetric SU(5) grand unification theories. An SU(5) singlet S is assumed to be the main component of dark matters, which decays into visible particles through dimension six operators suppressed by the grand unification scale. Under certain conditions, S decays dominantly into a pair of sleptons with universal coupling for all generations. Subsequently, electrons and positrons are produced from cascade decays of these sleptons. These cascade decay chains smooth the electron/positron spectrum, which permit naturally a good fit to the Fermi LAT data. The observed positron fraction upturn by PAMELA can be reproduced simultaneously. We have also calculated diffuse gamma-ray spectra due to the electron/positron excesses and compared them with the preliminary Fermi LAT data from 0.1 GeV to 10 GeV in the region 0<l <360, 10<|b|<20. The photon spectrum of energy above 100 GeV, mainly from final state radiations, may be checked in the near future.

Nonlinear Realization of Spontaneously Broken N=1 Supersymmetry Revisited

This paper revisits the nonlinear realization of spontaneously broken N=1 supersymmetry. It is shown that the constrained superfield formalism can be reinterpreted in the language of standard realization of nonlinear supersymmetry via a new and simpler route. Explicit formulas of actions are presented for general renormalizable theories with or without gauge interactions. The nonlinear Wess-Zumino gauge is discussed and relations are pointed out for different definitions of gauge fields. In addition, a general procedure is provided to deal with theories of arbitrary Kahler potentials.

The Goldstino Field in Linear and Nonlinear Realizations of Supersymmetry

A Goldstino field in the nonlinear realization of supersymmetry is constructed from an appropriate chiral super-multiplet of the linear theory, in general O'Raifeataigh-like models. The linear theories can thus be reformulated into their nonlinear versions, via the standard procedure. The Goldstino field disappears totally from the original Lagrangian in the process, but reemerges in the Jacobian of the transformation and covariant derivatives. Vertices with Goldstino fields carry at least one space-time derivative, as one would have expected.
