Two-parameter estimation with three-mode NOON state in a symmetric three-well system

We propose a scheme to realize two-parameter estimation via a Bose-Einstein condensates confined in a symmetric triple-well potential. The three-mode NOON state is prepared adiabatically as the initial state. The two parameters to be estimated are the phase differences between the wells. The sensitivity of this estimation scheme is studied by comparing quantum and classical Fisher information matrices. As a result, we find an optimal particle number measurement method. Moreover, the precision of this estimation scheme behaves the Heisenberg scaling under the optimal measurement.

Measure of quantum Fisher information flow in multi-parameter scenario

We generalize the quantum Fisher information flow proposed by Lu \textit{et al}. [Phys. Rev. A \textbf{82}, 042103 (2010)] to the multi-parameter scenario from the information geometry perspective. A measure named the \textit{intrinsic density flow} (IDF) is defined with the time-variation of the intrinsic density of quantum states (IDQS). IDQS measures the local distinguishability of quantum states in state manifolds. The validity of IDF is clarified with its vanishing under the parameter-independent unitary evolution and outward-flow (negativity) under the completely positive-divisible map. The temporary backflow (positivity) of IDF is thus an essential signature of the non-Markovian dynamics. Specific for the time-local master equation, the IDF decomposes according to the channels, and the positive decay rate indicates the inwards flow of the sub-IDF. As time-dependent scalar fields equipped on the state space, the distribution of IDQS and IDF comprehensively illustrates the distortion of state space induced by its environment. As example, a typical qubit model is given.

Fate of zero modes in a finite Su-Schrieffer-Heeger Model with $\mathcal{PT}$ Symmetry

Due to the boundary coupling in a finite system, the zero modes of a standard Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model may deviate from exact-zero energy. A recent experiment has shown that by increasing the system size or altering gain or loss strength of the SSH model with parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry, the real parts of the energies of the edge modes can be recovered to exact-zero value [Song \emph{et al.} Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{123}, 165701 (2019)]. To clarify the effects of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric potentials on the recovery of the nontrivial zero modes, we study the SSH model with $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric potentials of different forms in both infinite and finite systems. Our results indicate that the energies of the edge modes in the infinite size case decide whether or not the success of the recovery of the zero modes by tuning the strength of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric potential in a finite system. If the energies of the edge modes amount to zero in the thermodynamic limit under an open boundary condition (OBC), the recovery of the zero modes will break down by increasing the gain or loss strength for a finite system. Our results can be easily examined in different experimental platforms and inspire more insightful understanding on nontrivial edge modes in topologically non-Hermitian systems.

Measure of the density of quantum states in information geometry and its application in the quantum multi-parameter estimation

Recently, there is a growing interest in study quantum mechanics from the information geometry perspective, where a quantum state is depicted with a point in the projective Hilbert space. By taking quantum Fisher information (QFI) as the metric of projective Hilbert spaces, estimating a small parameter shift is equivalent to distinguishing neighboring quantum states along a given curve. Henceforth, information geometry plays a significant role in the single parameter estimation. However, the absence of high dimensional measures limits its applications in studying the multi-parameter systems. In this paper, we will discuss the physical implications of the volume element of QFI. It measures the intrinsic density of quantum states (IDQS) in projective Hilbert spaces, which is, then, a measure to define the (over) completeness relation of a class of quantum states. As an application, IDQS can be used in quantum measurement and multi-parameter estimation. We find the density of distinguishable states (DDS) for a set of efficient estimators is measured by the invariant volume of the classical Fisher information, which is the classical counterpart of QFI and serves as the metric of statistical manifolds. Correspondingly, a determinant form of quantum Cramér-Rao inequality is proposed to quantify the ability to infer the IDQS via quantum measurement. As a result, we find a gap between IDQS and maximal DDS over the measurements. The gap has tight connections with the uncertainty relationship. Exemplified with the three-level system with two parameters, we find the maximal DDS attained via the \emph{vertex measurements} (MvDDS) equals the square root of the quantum geometric tensor's determinant. It indicates the square gap between IDQS and MvDDS is proportional to the square of Berry curvature.

Nuclear fission in intense laser fields

Rapid-advancing intense laser technologies enable the possibility of a direct laser-nucleus coupling. In this paper the effect of intense laser fields on a series of nuclear fission processes, including proton decay, alpha decay, and cluster decay, is theoretically studied with the help of nuclear double folding potentials. The results show that the half-lives of these decay processes can be modified by non-negligible amounts, for example on the order of 0.01 or 0.1 percents in intense laser fields available in the forthcoming years. In addition to numerical results, an approximate analytical formula is derived to connect the laser-induced modification to the decay half-life and the decay energy.

Interaction induced mergence of Dirac points in Non-Abelian optical lattices

We study the properties of an ultracold Fermi gas loaded in a square optical lattice and subjected to an external and classical non-Abelian gauge field. We calculate the energy spectrum of the system and show that the Dirac points in the energy spectrum will remain quite stable under onsite interaction of certain strength. Once the on-site interaction grows stronger than a critical value, the Dirac points will no longer be stable and merge into a single hybrid point. This mergence implies a quantum phase transition from a semimetallic phase to a band insulator. The on-site interaction between ultracold fermions could be conveniently controlled by Feshbach resonances in current experiments. We proposed that this remarkable interaction induced mergence of Dirac points may be observed in the ultracold fermi gas experiments.

Topological tensor current of $\tilde{p}$-branes in the $ϕ$-mapping theory

We present a new general topological tensor current of $\tilde{p}$-branes by making use of the $ϕ$-mapping theory. It is shown that the current is identically conserved and behave as $δ(\vecϕ),$ and every isolated zero of the vector field $\vecϕ(x)$ corresponds to a `magnetic' $\tilde{p}$-brane. Using this topological current, the generalized Nambu action for multi $\tilde{p}$-branes is given, and the field strength $F$ corresponding to this topological tensor current is obtained. It is also shown that the `magnetic' charges carried by $\tilde{p}$-branes are topologically quantized and labeled by Hopf index and Brouwer degree, the winding number of the $ϕ$-mapping.
