Cryptanalysis and improvement of a semi-quantum private comparison protocol based on Bell states

Semi-quantum private comparison (SQPC) allows two participants with limited quantum ability to securely compare the equality of their secrets with the help of a semi-dishonest third party (TP). Recently, Jiang proposed a SQPC protocol based on Bell states (Quantum Inf Process 19(6): 180, 2020) and claimed it is secure. In this paper, we present two types of attack on Jiang's SQPC protocol. In the first type of attack, an outside eavesdropper will make participants accept a wrong result. In the second type of attack, a malicious participant will not only make the other participant accept a wrong result, but also learn the secret of the honest participant. Neither type of attack will be detected. In addition, we propose an improved SQPC protocol that can resist these two types of attack.

Optimal Two-impulse Space Interception with Multi-constraints

We consider optimal two-impulse space interception problems with multi-constraints. The multi-constraints are imposed on the terminal position of an interceptor, impulse and impact instants, and the component-wise magnitudes of velocity impulses. We formulate these optimization problems as multi-point boundary value problems and the calculus of variations is used to solve them. All inequality constraints are converted into equality constraints by using slackness variable methods in order to use Lagrange multiplier method. A new dynamic slackness variable method is presented. As a result, an indirect optimization method is established for two-impulse space interception problems with multi-constraints. Subsequently, our method is used to solve the two-impulse space interception problems of free-flight ballistic missiles. A number of conclusions have been established based on highly accurate numerical solutions. Specifically, by numerical examples, we show that when time and velocity impulse constraints are imposed, optimal two-impulse solutions may occur, and also if two impulse instants are free, then two-impulse space interception problems with velocity impulse constraints may degenerate to the one-impulse case.

An Element of Determinism in a Stochastic Flagellar Motor Switch

Marine bacterium Vibrio alginolyticus uses a single polar flagellum to navigate in an aqueous environment. Similar to Escherichia coli cells, the polar flagellar motor has two states; when the motor is counter-clockwise, the cell swims forward and when the motor is clockwise, the cell swims backward. V. alginolyticus also incorporates a direction randomization step at the start of the forward swimming interval by flicking its flagellum. To gain an understanding on how the polar flagellar motor switch is regulated, distributions of the forward $Δ_{f}$ and backward $Δ_{b}$ intervals are investigated herein. We found that the steady-state probability density functions, $P(Δ_{f})$ and $P(Δ_{b})$, of freely swimming bacteria are strongly peaked at a finite time, suggesting that the motor switch is not Poissonian. The short-time inhibition is sufficiently strong and long lasting, i.e., several hundred milliseconds for both intervals, which is readily observed and characterized. Treating motor reversal dynamics as a first-passage problem, which results from conformation fluctuations of the motor switch, we calculated $P(Δ_{f})$ and $P(Δ_{b})$ and found good agreement with the measurements.

Control of magnetic relaxation by electric-field-induced ferroelectric phase transition and inhomogeneous domain switching

Electric-field modulation of magnetism in strain-mediated multiferroic heterostructures is considered a promising scheme for enabling memory and magnetic microwave devices with ultralow power consumption. However, it is not well understood how electric-field-induced strain influences magnetic relaxation, an important physical process for device applications. Here we investigate resonant magnetization dynamics in ferromagnet/ferrolectric multiferroic heterostructures, FeGaB/PMN-PT and NiFe/PMN-PT, in two distinct strain states provided by electric-field-induced ferroelectric phase transition. The strain not only modifies magnetic anisotropy but also magnetic relaxation. In FeGaB/PMN-PT, we observe a nearly two-fold change in intrinsic Gilbert damping by electric field, which is attributed to strain-induced tuning of spin-orbit coupling. By contrast, a small but measurable change in extrinsic linewidth broadening is attributed to inhomogeneous ferroelastic domain switching during the phase transition of the PMN-PT substrate.
