New quiver-like varieties and Lie superalgebras

In order to extend the geometrization of Yangian $R$-matrices from Lie algebras $gl(n)$ to superalgebras $gl(M|N)$, we introduce new quiver-related varieties which are associated with representations of $gl(M|N)$. In order to define them similarly to the Nakajima-Cherkis varieties, we reformulate the construction of the latter by replacing the Hamiltonian reduction with the intersection of generalized Lagrangian subvarieties in the cotangent bundles of Lie algebras sitting at the vertices of the quiver. The new varieties come from replacing some Lagrangian subvarieties with their Legendre transforms. We present superalgerba versions of stable envelopes for the new quiver-like varieties that generalize the cotangent bundle of a Grassmannian. We define superalgebra generalizations of the Tarasov-Varchenko weight functions, and show that they represent the super stable envelopes. Both super stable envelopes and super weight functions transform according to Yangian $\check{R}$-matrices of $gl(M|N)$ with $M+N=2$.

Evaluating thin flat surfaces

We consider recognizable evaluations for a suitable category of oriented two-dimensional cobordisms with corners between finite unions of intervals. We call such cobordisms thin flat surfaces. An evaluation is given by a power series in two variables. Recognizable evaluations correspond to series that are ratios of a two-variable polynomial by the product of two one-variable polynomials, one for each variable. They are also in a bijection with isomorphism classes of commutative Frobenius algebras on two generators with a nondegenerate trace fixed. The latter algebras of dimension n correspond to points on the dual tautological bundle on the Hilbert scheme of n points on the affine plane, with a certain divisor removed from the bundle. A recognizable evaluation gives rise to a functor from the above cobordism category of thin flat surfaces to the category of finite-dimensional vector spaces. These functors may be non-monoidal in interesting cases. To a recognizable evaluation we also assign an analogue of the Deligne category and of its quotient by the ideal of negligible morphisms.

Virtual crossings and a filtration of the triply graded homology of a link diagram

A filtration of Soergel bimodules by virtual crossing bimodules extends to Rouquier's complexes associated with braid words. We show that these complexes are invariant up to filtered homotopy with respect to the second Reidemeister move, and the filtration of the triply graded link diagram homology, constructed by Khovanov through the application of the Hochschild homology, is invariant under Markov moves. We also prove that the homotopy equivalence of the complexes of braid words related by the third Reidemeister move violates filtration by at most two units.

A categorification of the stable SU(2) Witten-Reshetikhin-Turaev invariant of links in S2 x S1

The WRT invariant of a link L in S2xS1 at sufficiently high values of the level r can be expresses as an evaluation of a special polynomial invariant of L at 2r-th root of unity. We categorify this polynomial invariant by associating to L a bigraded homology whose graded Euler characteristic is equal to this polynomial. If L is presented as a closure of a tangle in S2xS1, then the homology of L is defined as the Hochschild homology of the H_n-bimodule associated to the tangle by M. Khovanov. This homology can also be expressed as a stable limit of Khovanov homology of the circular closure of the tangle in S3 through the torus braid with high twist.

Three-dimensional topological field theory and symplectic algebraic geometry I

We study boundary conditions and defects in a three-dimensional topological sigma-model with a complex symplectic target space X (the Rozansky-Witten model). We show that boundary conditions correspond to complex Lagrangian submanifolds in X equipped with complex fibrations. The set of boundary conditions has the structure of a 2-category; morphisms in this 2-category are interpreted physically as one-dimensional defect lines separating parts of the boundary with different boundary conditions. This 2-category is a categorification of the Z/2-graded derived category of X; it is also related to categories of matrix factorizations and a categorification of deformation quantization (quantization of symmetric monoidal categories). In the appendix we describe a deformation of the B-model and the associated category of branes by forms of arbitrary even degree.

A Large k Asymptotics of Witten's Invariant of Seifert Manifolds

We calculate a large $k$ asymptotic expansion of the exact surgery formula for Witten's $SU(2)$ invariant of Seifert manifolds. The contributions of all flat connections are identified. An agreement with the 1-loop formula is checked. A contribution of the irreducible connections appears to contain only a finite number of terms in the asymptotic series. A 2-loop correction to the contribution of the trivial connection is found to be proportional to Casson's invariant.

Reidemeister torsion, the Alexander polynomial and $U(1,1)$ Chern-Simons theory

We show that the $U(1,1)$ (super) Chern Simons theory is one loop exact. This provides a direct proof of the relation between the Alexander polynomial and analytic and Reidemeister torsion. We then proceed to compute explicitely the torsions of Lens spaces and Seifert manifolds using surgery and the $S$ and $T$ matrices of the $U(1,1)$ Wess Zumino Witten model recently determined, with complete agreement with known results. $U(1,1)$ quantum field theories and the Alexander polynomial provide thus "toy" models with a non trivial topological content, where all ideas put forward by Witten for $SU(2)$ and the Jones polynomial can be explicitely checked, at finite $k$. Some simple but presumably generic aspects of non compact groups, like the modified relation between Chern Simons and Wess Zumino Witten theories, are also illustrated. We comment on the closely related case of $GL(1,1)$.

S and T matrices for the super $U(1,1)$ WZW model. Application to surgery and 3-manifold invariants based on the Alexander Conway polynomial

We carry on the study of the Alexander Conway invariant from the quantum field theory point of view started in \cite{RS91}. We first discuss in details $S$ and $T$ matrices for the $U(1,1)$ super WZW model and obtain, for the level $k$ an integer, new finite dimensional representations of the modular group. These have the remarkable property that some of the $S$ matrix elements are infinite. Moreover, typical and atypical representations as well as indecomposable blocks are mixed: truncation to maximally atypical representations, as advocated in some recent papers, is not consistent. The main topological application of this work is the computation of Alexander invariants for 3-manifolds and for links in 3-manifolds. Invariants of 3-manifolds seem to depend trivially on the level $k$, but still contain interesting topological information. For Seifert manifolds for instance, they coincide with the order of the first homology group. Examples of invariants of links in 3-manifolds are given. They exhibit interesting arithmetic properties.
