Convergence of the density of states and delocalization of eigenvectors on random regular graphs

Consider a random regular graph of fixed degree $d$ with $n$ vertices. We study spectral properties of the adjacency matrix and of random Schrödinger operators on such a graph as $n$ tends to infinity. We prove that the integrated density of states on the graph converges to the integrated density of states on the infinite regular tree and we give uniform bounds on the rate of convergence. This allows to estimate the number of eigenvalues in intervals of size comparable to $\log_{d-1}^{-1}(n)$. Based on related estimates for the Green function we derive results about delocalization of eigenvectors.

Poisson eigenvalue statistics for random Schrödinger operators on regular graphs

For random operators it is conjectured that spectral properties of an infinite-volume operator are related to the distribution of spectral gaps of finite-volume approximations. In particular, localization and pure point spectrum in infinite volume is expected to correspond to Poisson eigenvalue statistics. Motivated by results about the Anderson model on the infinite tree we consider random Schrödinger operators on finite regular graphs. We study local spectral statistics: We analyze the number of eigenvalues in intervals with length comparable to the inverse of the number of vertices of the graph, in the limit where this number tends to infinity. We show that the random point process generated by the rescaled eigenvalues converges in certain spectral regimes of localization to a Poisson process. The corresponding result on the lattice was proved by Minami. However, due to the geometric structure of regular graphs the known methods turn out to be difficult to adapt. Therefore we develop a new approach based on direct comparison of eigenvectors.

A short proof of Weyl's law for fractional differential operators

We study spectral asymptotics for a large class of differential operators on an open subset of $\R^d$ with finite volume. This class includes the Dirichlet Laplacian, the fractional Laplacian, and also fractional differential operators with non-homogeneous symbols. Based on a sharp estimate for the sum of the eigenvalues we establish the first term of the semiclassical asymptotics. This generalizes Weyl's law for the Laplace operator.

Refined Semiclassical Asymptotics for Fractional Powers of the Laplace Operator

We consider the fractional Laplacian on a domain and investigate the asymptotic behavior of its eigenvalues. Extending methods from semi-classical analysis we are able to prove a two-term formula for the sum of eigenvalues with the leading (Weyl) term given by the volume and the subleading term by the surface area. Our result is valid under very weak assumptions on the regularity of the boundary.

Semi-classical analysis of the Laplace operator with Robin boundary conditions

We prove a two-term asymptotic expansion of eigenvalue sums of the Laplacian on a bounded domain with Neumann, or more generally, Robin boundary conditions. We formulate and prove the asymptotics in terms of semi-classical analysis. In this reformulation it is natural to allow the function describing the boundary conditions to depend on the semi-classical parameter and we identify and analyze three different regimes for this dependence.

Geometrical Versions of improved Berezin-Li-Yau Inequalities

We study the eigenvalues of the Dirichlet Laplace operator on an arbitrary bounded, open set in $\R^d$, $d \geq 2$. In particular, we derive upper bounds on Riesz means of order $σ\geq 3/2$, that improve the sharp Berezin inequality by a negative second term. This remainder term depends on geometric properties of the boundary of the set and reflects the correct order of growth in the semi-classical limit. Under certain geometric conditions these results imply new lower bounds on individual eigenvalues, which improve the Li-Yau inequality.

Sharp spectral estimates in domains of infinite volume

We consider the Dirichlet Laplace operator on open, quasi-bounded domains of infinite volume. For such domains semiclassical spectral estimates based on the phase-space volume - and therefore on the volume of the domain - must fail. Here we present a method how one can nevertheless prove uniform bounds on eigenvalues and eigenvalue means which are sharp in the semiclassical limit. We give examples in horn-shaped regions and so-called spiny urchins. Some results are extended to Schrödinger operators defined on quasi-bounded domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Universal Bounds for Traces of the Dirichlet Laplace Operator

We derive upper bounds for the trace of the heat kernel $Z(t)$ of the Dirichlet Laplace operator in an open set $Ω\subset \R^d$, $d \geq 2$. In domains of finite volume the result improves an inequality of Kac. Using the same methods we give bounds on $Z(t)$ in domains of infinite volume. For domains of finite volume the bound on $Z(t)$ decays exponentially as $t$ tends to infinity and it contains the sharp first term and a correction term reflecting the properties of the short time asymptotics of $Z(t)$. To prove the result we employ refined Berezin-Li-Yau inequalities for eigenvalue means.
