Diffractive Photoproduction of $Υ$ at HERA

Predictions for the diffractive photoproduction of the $Υ$-family at HERA energies, within the framework of the analysis by Frankfurt, Koepf and Strikman, are presented. Two novel effects lead to a significant enhancement of the original calculation: the non-diagonal (or skewed) kinematics, calculated to leading-log($Q^2$) accuracy, and the large magnitude of the real part of the amplitude. The resultant cross sections are found to agree fairly well with recent preliminary data from ZEUS and H1. A strong correlation between the mass of the diffractively produced state and the energy dependence of the cross section is found. In particular, a considerably stronger rise in energy is predicted than that found in $J/ψ$-production.

Hard exclusive electroproduction of decuplet baryons in the large N_c limit

The cross sections and transverse spin asymmetries in the hard exclusive electroproduction of decuplet baryons are calculated in the large N_c limit and found to be comparable to that of octet baryons. Large N_c selection rules for the production amplitudes are derived, leading to new sensitive tests of the spin aspects of the QCD chiral dynamics both in the nonstrange and strange sectors. Importance of such studies for the reliable extraction of the pion form factor from pion electroproduction is explained.

Nondiagonal Parton Distributions in the Leading Logarithmic Approximation

In this paper we make predictions for nondiagonal parton distributions in a proton in the LLA. We calculate the DGLAP-type evolution kernels in the LLA, solve the nondiagonal GLAP evolution equations with a modified version of the CTEQ-package and comment on the range of applicability of the LLA in the asymmetric regime. We show that the nondiagonal gluon distribution $g(x_{1},x_{2},t,μ^2)$ can be well approximated at small $x$ by the conventional gluon density $xG(x,μ^2)$. Color Transparency Effects in Electron Deuteron Interactions at Intermediate Q^2

High momentum transfer electrodisintegration of polarized and unpolarized deuterium targets, $d(e,e'p)n$ is studied. We show that the importance of final state interactions-FSI, occuring when a knocked out nucleon interacts with the other nucleon, depends strongly on the momentum of the spectator nucleon. In particular, these FSI occur when the essential contributions to the scattering amplitude arise from internucleon distances $\sim 1.5~fm$. But the absorption of the high momentum $γ^*$ may produce a point like configuration, which evolves with time. In this case, the final state interactions probe the point like configuration at the early stage of its evolution. The result is that significant color transparency effects, which can either enhance or suppress computed cross sections, are predicted to occur for $\sim 4 GeV^2 \ge Q^2\leq~10~(GeV/c)^2$.

Correlation Effects in Nuclear Transparency

The Glauber approximation is used to calculate the contribution of nucleon correlations in high-energy $A(e,e'N)$ reactions. When the excitation energy of the residual nucleus is small, the increase of the nuclear transparency due to correlations between the struck nucleon and the other nucleons is mostly compensated by a decrease of the transparency due to the correlations between non detected nucleons. We derive Glauber model predictions for nuclear transparency for the differential cross section when nuclear shell level excitations are measured. The role of correlations in color transparency is briefly discussed.

Correlations and Fluctuations in High-Energy Nuclear Collisions

Nucleon correlations in the target and projectile nuclei are shown to reduce significantly the fluctuations in multiple nucleon-nucleon collisions, total multiplicity and transverse energy in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, in particular for heavy projectile and target. The interplay between cross-section fluctuations, from color transparency and opacity, and nuclear correlations is calculated and found to be able to account for large fluctuations in transverse energy spectra. Numerical implementation of correlations and cross-section fluctuations in Monte-Carlo codes is discussed.
