Study of the multiplicity of hadrons on nuclei

The improved two-scale model with symmetric Lund distribution function is used to perform the fit to the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) data on nuclear targets of HERMES experiment at DESY. The ratio of hadron multiplicity on nuclear target to the deuterium one is chosen as observable, as usually. Some peculiarities of the fit are discussed. The two-parameter's fit gives satisfactory agreement with the data. The results of the present and previous fits are compared.

Multidimensional Study of Hadronization in Nuclei

Hadron multiplicities in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering were measured on neon, krypton and xenon targets relative to deuterium at an electron(positron)-beam energy of 27.6 GeV at HERMES. These ratios were determined as a function of the virtual-photon energy nu, its virtuality Q2, the fractional hadron energy z and the transverse hadron momentum with respect to the virtual-photon direction pt . Dependences were analysed separately for positively and negatively charged pions and kaons as well as protons and antiprotons in a two-dimensional representation. Compared to the one-dimensional dependences, some new features were observed. In particular, when z > 0.4 positive kaons do not show the strong monotonic rise of the multiplicity ratio with nu as exhibited by pions and negative kaons. Protons were found to behave very differently from the other hadrons.

Nuclear attenuation of high energy multi-hadron systems in the string model

Nuclear attenuation of the multi-hadron systems in the string model is considered. The improved two-scale model with set of parameters obtained recently for the single hadron attenuation is used for calculation of the multiplicity ratios of the one-, two- and three-hadron systems electroproduced on nuclear and deuterium targets. The comparison of the features of the one-, two- and three-hadron systems is performed. The predictions of the model for multiplicity ratios of multi-hadron systems as functions of different convenient variables are presented.

Average formation length in string model

The space-time scales of the hadronization process in the framework of string model are investigated. It is shown that the average formation lengths of pseudoscalar mesons, produced in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of leptons on different targets, depend from their electrical charges. In particular the average formation lengths of positively charged hadrons are larger than of negatively charged ones. This statement is fulfiled for all using scaling functions, for $z$ (the fraction of the virtual photon energy transferred to the detected hadron) larger than 0.15, for all nuclear targets and any value of the Bjorken scaling variable $x_{Bj}$. In all cases, the main mechanism is direct production of pseudoscalar mesons. Including in consideration additional mechanism of production in result of decay of resonances, leads to decrease of average formation lengths. It is shown that the average formation lengths of positively (negatively) charged mesons are slowly rising (decreasing) functions of $x_{Bj}$. The obtained results can be important, in particular, for the understanding of the hadronization process in nuclear environment.

Average formation lengths of baryons and antibaryons in string model

In this work it is continued the investigation of the space-time scales of the hadronization process in the framework of string model. The average formation lengths of several widely using species of baryons (antibaryons) such as $p$ ($\bar{p}$), $n$ ($\bar{n}$), $Δ$ ($\barΔ$), $Λ$ ($\barΛ$) and $Σ$ ($\barΣ$) are studied. It is shown that they depend from electrical charges or, more precise, from quark contents of the hadrons. In particular, the average formation lengths of positively charged hadrons, for example protons, are considerably larger than of their negatively charged antiparticles, antiprotons. This statement is fulfilled for all nuclear targets and any value of the Bjorken scaling variable $x_{Bj}$. The main mechanism is direct production. Additional production mechanism in result of decay of resonances gives small contribution. It is shown that the average formation lengths of protons (antiprotons) are slowly rising (decreasing) functions of $x_{Bj}$, the ones of neutrons and antineutrons are slowly decreasing functions of $x_{Bj}$. The shape and behavior of average formation lengths for baryons qualitatively coincide with the ones for pseudoscalar mesons obtained earlier.

Study of the hadronization process in cold nuclear medium

The improved two-scale model is used to perform the fit to the semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) data of HERMES experiment at DESY on nuclear targets. The ratio of hadron multiplicity on nuclear target to the deuterium one is chosen as observable, as usually. The two-parameter's fit gives satisfactory agreement with the data in term of $χ^2$ criterium. Best values of parameters are then used to calculate the nuclear multiplicity ratio for the hadrons not included in the fit procedure.

A study of the double hadron neutrinoproduction on nuclei

The nuclear medium influence on the dihadron neutrinoproduction is investigated for the first time, using the data obtained with SKAT bubble chamber. An indication is obtained that the nuclear attenuation of the dihadron is more expressed for kinematically closest hadron pairs. The experimental data on the dihadron attenuation and on the ratio of the dihadron to single-hadron yields are compared with predictions of the two-scale string fragmentation model.

Application of the Two-Scale Model to the HERMES Data on Nuclear Attenuation

The Two-Scale Model and its improved version were used to perform the fit to the HERMES data for $ν$ (the virtual photon energy) and z (the fraction of $ν$ carried by hadron) dependencies of nuclear multiplicity ratios for $π^+$ and $π^-$ mesons electro-produced on two nuclear targets ($^{14}$N and $^{84}$Kr). The quantitative criterium $χ^2$ was used for the first time to analyse the results of the model fit to the nuclear multiplicity ratios data. The two-parameter's fit gives satisfactory agreement with the HERMES data. Best values of the parameters were then used to calculate the $ν$- and $z$ - dependencies of nuclear attenuation for $π^0$, K$^+$, K$^-$ and $\bar{p}$ produced on $^{84}$Kr target, and also make a predictions for $ν$, z and the Q$^2$ (the photon virtuality) - dependencies of nuclear attenuation data for those identified hadrons and nuclea, that will be published by HERMES.
