On the nature of dark matter

Dark matter in the universe seems to be one of the most important puzzles science has to face in this moment. In this essay we point out that dark matter could be a spin-0 fundamental interaction of Nature rather than a simple particle. From this hypothesis follows that dark matter behaves just as standard cold dark matter at cosmological level while still in good agreement with observations at galactic scales. This new interaction could be one of the scalar fields predicted by higher-dimensional theories.

Scalar Field Dark Matter

This work is a review of the last results of research on the Scalar Field Dark Matter model of the Universe at cosmological and at galactic level. We present the complete solution to the scalar field cosmological scenario in which the dark matter is modeled by a scalar field $Φ$ with the scalar potential $V(Φ)=V_{0}(cosh {(λ\sqrt{κ_{0}}Φ)}-1)$ and the dark energy is modeled by a scalar field $Ψ$, endowed with the scalar potential $\tilde{V}(Ψ)= \tilde{V_{0}}(\sinh{(α\sqrt{κ_{0}}Ψ)})^β$, which together compose the 95% of the total matter energy in the Universe. The model presents successfully deals with the up to date cosmological observations, and is a good candidate to treat the dark matter problem at the galactic level.

Scalar Field Dark Matter, Cross Section and Planck-Scale Physics

In recent papers we have proposed that the dark matter of the Universe could be from scalar field origin. In this letter, we find that if the scale of renormalization of the model is of order of the Planck Mass, then a scalar field $Φ$ endowed with the scalar potential $V=V_{o}[\cosh {(λ\sqrt{κ_{0}}Φ)}-1] can be a reliable model for dark matter in galaxies. The predicted scattering cross section fits the value required for self-interacting dark matter and the additional degree of freedom of the theory is of order of hundreds of TeV.

A new cosmological tracker solution for Quintessence

In this paper we propose a quintessence model with the potential $V(Φ)=V_{o}[ \sinh {(α\sqrt{κ_{o}}ΔΦ})] ^β$, which asymptotic behavior corresponds to an inverse power-law potential at early times and to an exponential one at late times. We demonstrate that this is a tracker solution and that it could have driven the Universe into its current inflationary stage. The exact solutions and the description for a complete evolution of the Universe are also given. We compare such model with the current cosmological observations.

Quintessence and Scalar Dark Matter in the Universe

Continuing with previous works, we present a cosmological model in which dark matter and dark energy are modeled by scalar fields $Φ$ and $Ψ$, respectively, endowed with the scalar potentials $V(Φ)=V_{o}[ \cosh {(λ\sqrt{κ_{o}}Φ)}-1] $ and $\tilde{V}(Ψ)=\tilde{V_{o}}[ \sinh {(α\sqrt{κ_{o}}Ψ)}] ^β$. This model contains 95% of scalar field. We obtain that the scalar dark matter mass is $m_Φ\sim 10^{-26}eV.$ The solution obtained allows us to recover the success of the standard CDM. The implications on the formation of structure are reviewed. We obtain that the minimal cutoff radio for this model is $r_{c}\sim 1.2 kpc.$
