Addendum to "Ultraviolet behaviour of Higgs inflation models"

This article is an addendum to [1]. We extend our computation of the on-shell scattering amplitudes in an arbitrary inflaton background $\barϕ_1$. Although the effective Einstein frame cutoff for $\barϕ_1>>M_P/\sqrtξ$ turns out to be $\barϕ_1$ or $ξ\barϕ_1$ for the $U(1)$ model, this is not the case for the realistic doublet Higgs model where the effective Einstein frame cutoff turns out to be the standard $M_P/\sqrtξ$ for both the Palatini and metric formulations. Then, as it has been pointed out in [1] the background $\barϕ_1$ is the effective Jordan frame cutoff for both the Palatini and metric formulations.

Constant-roll in the Palatini-$R^2$ models

We consider models of a scalar field coupled to quadratic $R\!+\!R^2$ gravity in the framework of the Palatini formulation. The resulting Einstein-frame generalized $k$-inflation effective theory is analyzed assuming that the constant-roll condition holds. We focus on a quartic self-interaction potential, a case of particular appeal modelling Higgs inflation, considering the cases of minimal and non-minimal coupling of the inflaton to gravity. For an appropriate range of the model parameters in the large field domain the obtained values for the inflationary observables are found in agreement with current observations.

Dark matter and neutrino masses from a classically scale-invariant multi-Higgs portal

We present a classically scale-invariant model where the dark matter, neutrino and electroweak mass scales are dynamically generated from dimensionless couplings. The Standard Model gauge sector is extended by a dark $SU(2)_X$ gauge symmetry that is completely broken through a complex scalar doublet via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. The three resulting dark vector bosons of equal mass are stable and can play the role of dark matter. We also incorporate right-handed neutrinos which are coupled to a real singlet scalar that communicates with the other scalars through portal interactions. The multi-Higgs sector is analyzed by imposing theoretical and experimental constraints. We compute the dark matter relic abundance and study the possibility of the direct detection of the dark matter candidate from XENON 1T.

Dark matter and neutrino masses from a scale-invariant multi-Higgs portal

We consider a classically scale invariant version of the Standard Model, extended by an extra dark $SU(2)_X$ gauge group. Apart from the dark gauge bosons and a dark scalar doublet which is coupled to the Standard Model Higgs through a portal coupling, we incorporate right-handed neutrinos and an additional real singlet scalar field. After symmetry breaking à la Coleman-Weinberg, we examine the multi-Higgs sector and impose theoretical and experimental constraints. In addition, by computing the dark matter relic abundance and the spin-independent scattering cross section off a nucleon we determine the viable dark matter mass range in accordance with present limits. The model can be tested in the near future by collider experiments and direct detection searches such as XENON 1T.

Dark Matter from a Classically Scale-Invariant $SU(3)_X$

In this work we study a classically scale-invariant extension of the Standard Model in which the dark matter and electroweak scales are generated through the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. The extra $SU(3)_X$ gauge factor gets completely broken by the vacuum expectation values of two scalar triplets. Out of the eight resulting massive vector bosons the three lightest are stable due to an intrinsic $Z_2\times Z_2'$ discrete symmetry and can constitute dark matter candidates. We analyze the phenomenological viability of the predicted multi-Higgs sector imposing theoretical and experimental constraints. We perform a comprehensive analysis of the dark matter predictions of the model solving numerically the set of coupled Boltzmann equations involving all relevant dark matter processes and explore the direct detection prospects of the dark matter candidates.

Bulk Higgs with 4D Gauge Interactions

We consider a model with an extra compact dimension in which the Higgs is a bulk field while all other Standard Model fields are confined on a brane. We find that four-dimensional gauge invariance can still be achieved by appropriate modification of the brane action. This changes accordingly the Higgs propagator so that, the Higgs, in all its interactions with Standard Model fields, behaves as an ordinary 4D field, although it has a bulk kinetic term and bulk self-interactions. In addition, it cannot propagate from the brane to the bulk and, thus, no charge can escape into the bulk but it remains confined on the brane. Moreover, the photon remains massless, while the dependence of the Higgs vacuum on the extra dimension induces a mixing between the graviphoton and the Z-boson. This results in a modification of the sensitive ρ-parameter.
