On the Lyapunov-Perron reducible Markovian Master Equation

We consider an open quantum system in $M_{d}(\mathbb{C})$ governed by quasiperiodic Hamiltonian with rationally independent frequencies and under assumption of Lyapunov-Perron reducibility of associated Schroedinger equation. We construct the Markovian Master Equation and resulting CP-divisible evolution in weak coupling limit regime, generalizing our previous results from periodic case. The analysis is conducted with application of projection operator techniques and concluded with some results regarding stability of solutions and existence of quasiperiodic global steady state.

Markovian dynamics under weak periodic coupling

We examine a completely positive and trace preserving evolution of finite dimensional open quantum system, coupled to large environment via periodically modulated interaction Hamiltonian. We derive a corresponding Markovian Master Equation under usual assumption of weak coupling using the projection operator techniques, in two opposite regimes of very small and very large modulation frequency. Special attention is granted to the case of uniformly (globally) modulated interaction, where some general results concerning the Floquet normal form of a solution and its asymptotic stability are also addressed.

On Howland time-independent formulation of CP-divisible quantum evolutions

We extend Howland time-independent formalism to the case of completely positive and trace preserving dynamics of finite dimensional open quantum systems governed by periodic, time dependent Lindbladian in Weak Coupling Limit, expanding our result from previous papers. We propose the Bochner space of periodic, square integrable matrix valued functions, as well as its tensor product representation, as the generalized space of states within the time-independent formalism. We examine some densely defined operators on this space, together with their Fourier-like expansions and address some problems related to their convergence by employing general results on Banach-space valued Fourier series, such as the generalized Carleson-Hunt theorem. We formulate Markovian dynamics in the generalized space of states by constructing appropriate time-independent Lindbladian in standard (Lindblad-Gorini-Kossakowski-Sudarshan) form, as well as one-parameter semigroup of bounded evolution maps. We show their similarity with Markovian generators and dynamical maps defined on matrix space, i.e. the generator still possesses a standard form (extended by closed perturbation) and the resulting semigroup is also completely positive, trace preserving and a contraction.

On the Floquet analysis of commutative periodic Lindbladians in finite dimension

We consider the Markovian Master Equation over matrix algebra $\mathbb{M}_d$, governed by periodic Lindbladian $L_t$ in standard (Kossakowski-Lindblad-Gorini-Sudarshan) form. It is shown that under simplifying assumption of commutativity, i.e. if $L_t L_{t'} = L_{t'}L_t$ for any moments of time $t,t'\in\mathbb{R}_+$, the Floquet normal form of resulting completely positive dynamical map is not guaranteed to be given by simultaneously globally Markovian maps. In fact, the periodic part of the solution is even shown to be necessarily non-Markovian. Two examples in algebra $\mathbb{M}_2$ are explicitly calculated: a periodically modulated random qubit dynamics, being a generalization of pure decoherence scheme, and a classically perturbed two-level system, coupled to reservoir via standard ladder operators.

Markovian theory of dynamical decoupling by periodic control

The recently developed formalism of Markovian master equations for quantum open systems with external periodic driving is applied to the theory of dynamical decoupling by periodic control. This new approach provides a more detailed quantitative picture of this phenomenon applicable both to traditional NMR spectroscopy and to recent attempts of decoherence reduction in quantum devices. For popular choices of bath spectral densities and a two-level system, exact formulas for the relaxation rates are available. In the context of NMR imaging, the obtained formulas allow the extraction of a new parameter describing bath relaxation time from the experimental data.

Solar cell as self-oscillating heat engine

Solar cells are engines converting energy supplied by the photon flux into work. All known types of macroscopic engines and turbines are also self-oscillating systems which yield a periodic motion at the expense of a usually non-periodic source of energy. The very definition of work in the formalism of quantum open systems suggests the hypothesis that the oscillating "piston" is a necessary ingredient of the work extraction process. This aspect of solar cell operation is absent in the existing descriptions and the main goal of this paper is to show that plasma oscillations provide the physical implementation of a piston.

On the application of Floquet theorem in development of time-dependent Lindbladians

In this paper, the mathematical framework providing a description of completely positive and trace preserving dynamics of open quantum systems is addressed. Special case of time-dependent Lindbladian governed by periodic Hamiltonian is concerned. It is proven, that appropriate trace preserving dynamical map of such periodically driven system may be constructed by application of Floquet theory. Appropriate Lindbladian and Markovian master equation in weak coupling regime and resulting dynamical map are constructed. Some examples of application of developed technique are given.
