We consider D-dimensional Lovelock gravity with only one term of higher-order Lovelock Lagrangian densities, and show that a product of Minkowski space-time and n-spheres is its vacuum solution. The most interesting feature of our model is that the spontaneous compactification of the extra dimensions results in reproduction of the Einstein gravity with no cosmological constant.
In this paper, we discuss a gravitational theory based on the generalized gauge field. Our Lagrangian is invariant not only under local Lorentz transformation and the ordinary gauge transformation but also under a new gauge transformation. We show that the gauge field associated with this new transformation is a second-rank tensor field and that the Einstein-Hilbert term can be derived from our Lagrangian when the gauge field has a vacuum expectation value. We also show that our model provides a Lagrangian for the scalar-tensor theory.
In this paper, we provide a vacuum solution with torsion in quadratic Riemann-curvature gravity. Physically, the solution means that vacuum can have a nonzero vacuum field with large torsion. We show that the Einstein-Hilbert action can be derived if we expand the quadratic curvature of the Lagrangian in a torsion-free Riemannian space-time around a nonzero vacuum field. We also show that the cosmological constant caused by a nonzero vacuum field is equal to zero.
We propose a phenomenological formula relating the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix $V_{KM}$ and quark masses in a form $(m_d,\ m_s,\ m_b)\propto (m_u,\ m_c,\ m_t)V_{KM}$. The formula agrees with experimental data well and has an interesting geometric picture. The origin of such a formula is discussed in the standard model.
