Leptonic CP asymmetry and Light flavored scalar

We consider a situation where right-handed neutrinos couple to a light scalar which is possibly a Nambu-Goldstone boson resulting from high-energy symmetry breaking. Its coupling is typically complex-valued and flavor-dependent. In this work, we investigate the possibility of the leptonic asymmetry generation in the Universe from the right-handed neutrino decay to flavorful light scalar. Furthermore a new source of asymmetry generation from a single decay process is pointed out, which is characteristic of the present setting.

TeV-scale Majorogenesis

The Majoron, the Nambu-Goldstone boson of lepton number symmetry, is an interesting candidate for dark matter as it deeply connects the dark matter and neutrino physics. In this paper, we consider the Majoron dark matter as pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson with TeV-scale mass. The heavy Majoron generally has the large decay constant and tiny Yukawa couplings to light right-handed neutrinos which are required by cosmological and astrophysical observations. That makes it difficult to realize the desired amount of the relic abundance of Majoron dark matter. We consider three improved scenarios for the generation of Majoron, dubbed as Majorogenesis, in the early universe and find in all cases the parameter space compatible with the relic abundance and cosmic-ray constraints.

Higgs Boson Mass and Muon g-2 with Strongly Coupled Vector-like Generations

We study the Higgs boson mass and the muon anomalous magnetic moment (the muon $g-2$) in a supersymmetric standard model with vector-like generations. The infrared physics of the model is governed by strong renormalization-group effects of the gauge couplings. That leads to sizable extra Yukawa couplings of Higgs doublets between the second and vector-like generations in both quark and lepton sectors. It is found with this property that there exist wide parameter regions where the Higgs boson mass and the muon $g-2$ are simultaneously explained.

D term and gaugino masses in gauge mediation

We systematically study supersymmetry breaking with non-vanishing F and D terms. We classify the models into two categories and find that a certain class of models necessarily has runaway behavior of scalar potential, while the other needs the Fayet-Iliopoulos term to break supersymmetry. The latter class is useful to have a simple model of gauge mediation where the vacuum is stable everywhere and the gaugino mass is generated at the one-loop order.

Deep Correlation Between Cosmic-Ray Anomaly and Neutrino Masses

The positron anomaly recently reported by the cosmic-ray measurements suggests that, if explained by the decay of dark matter particle, the decay source is closely linked up with the leptonic sector of the standard model. It is observed that, with a simple dimensional analysis, the lifetime of dark matter for the anomaly is expressed by the energy scale of neutrino masses. We present two scenarios in which these two matter at issue (the dark matter width and the tiny neutrino masses) stem from a single operator involving a gauge-singlet scalar field.

Extra dimensions and Seesaw Neutrinos at the International Linear Collider

We study the capability of the international linear collider (ILC) to probe extra dimensions via the seesaw mechanism. In the scenario we study, heavy Kaluza-Klein neutrinos generate tiny neutrino masses and, at the same time, have sizable couplings to the standard-model particles. Consequently, a Kaluza-Klein tower of heavy neutrinos (N) can be produced and studied at the ILC through the process: e+e- -> vN followed by N -> Wl decay. We show that the single lepton plus two-jets final states with large missing energy from this signal process will provide a good opportunity to measure the masses and cross sections of Kaluza-Klein neutrinos up to the third level. Furthermore, the neutrino oscillation parameters can be extracted from the flavor dependence of the lowest-mode signals, which give us information about the origin of low-energy neutrino masses.

Seesaw in the bulk

A five-dimensional seesaw framework is analyzed with the lepton-number-violating propagator of bulk right-handed neutrinos. That can bypass summing up the effects of heavy Majorana particles whose masses and wavefunctions are not exactly known. The propagator method makes it easier to evaluate the seesaw-induced neutrino mass for various boundary conditions of bulk neutrinos and in a general background geometry, including the warped extra dimension. It is also found that the higher-dimensional seesaw gives a natural framework for the inverse seesaw suppression of low-energy neutrino masses.

Seesaw Neutrino Signals at the Large Hadron Collider

We discuss the scenario with gauge singlet fermions (right-handed neutrinos) accessible at the energy of the Large Hadron Collider. The singlet fermions generate tiny neutrino masses via the seesaw mechanism and also have sizable couplings to the standard-model particles. We demonstrate that these two facts, which are naively not satisfied simultaneously, are reconciled in the five-dimensional framework in various fashions, which make the seesaw mechanism observable. The collider signal of tri-lepton final states with transverse missing energy is investigated for two explicit examples of the observable seesaw, taking account of three types of neutrino mass spectrum and the constraint from lepton flavor violation. We find by showing the significance of signal discovery that the collider experiment has a potential to find signals of extra dimensions and the origin of small neutrino masses.

Universally Leptophilic Dark Matter From Non-Abelian Discrete Symmetry

The positron anomaly recently reported by the cosmic-ray measurements can be explained by the decaying dark matter scenario, where it decays mainly into leptons with the lifetime of O(10^26) second. When the dark matter is a fermionic particle, the lifetime of this order is known to be obtained by a dimension 6 operator suppressed by the unification scale 10^16 GeV, while such decay operators do not necessarily involve only leptons. In addition, the scenario would be spoiled if there exist lower-dimensional operators inducing the dark matter decay. We show in this letter that a single non-Abelian discrete symmetry such as A_4 is possible to prohibit all such harmful (non-leptonically coupled and lower-dimensional) operators. Moreover, the dark matter decays into charged leptons in a flavor-blind fashion due to the non-Abelian flavor symmetry, which results in perfect agreements not only with the PAMELA data but also with the latest Fermi-LAT data reported very recently. We also discuss some relevance between the discrete symmetry and neutrino physics.

Geometry-free neutrino masses in curved spacetime

The seesaw-induced neutrino mass is discussed in a generic class of curved spacetime, including the flat and warped extra dimensions. For Majorana masses in the bulk and on the boundary, the exact forms of seesaw-induced masses are derived by using the Kaluza-Klein mode expansion and the lepton number violating correlator for bulk fermion. It is found that the neutrino mass is determined without the knowledge of wave functions and whole background geometry when the metric factor is fixed on the boundary, e.g. by solving the hierarchy problem.

Neutrino-induced Electroweak Symmetry Breaking in Supersymmetric SO(10) Unification

The radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, the unification of third-generation Yukawa couplings, and flavor-changing rare decay are investigated in two types of supersymmetric SO(10) scenarios taking into account of the effects of neutrino physics, i.e. the observed large generation mixing and tiny mass scale. The first scenario is minimal, including right-handed neutrinos at intermediate scale with the unification of third-generation Yukawa couplings. Another is the case that the large mixing of atmospheric neutrinos originates from the charged-lepton sector. Under the SO(10)-motivated boundary conditions for supersymmetry-breaking parameters, typical low-energy particle spectrum is discussed and the parameter space is identified which satisfies the conditions for successful radiative electroweak symmetry breaking and the experimental mass bounds of superparticles. In particular, the predictions of the bottom quark mass and the b \to s gamma branching ratio are fully analyzed. In both two scenarios, new types of radiative electroweak symmetry breaking are achieved with the effects of neutrino couplings. The Yukawa unification becomes compatible with the bottom quark mass and the experimental constraints from flavor-violating rare processes, and the hierarchical superparticle mass spectrum is obtained.

Anomalies and Fayet-Iliopoulos terms on warped orbifolds and large hierarchies

The anomalies in five-dimensional orbifold theories are examined in a generic type of non-factorizable geometries. In spite of complicated fermion wavefunctions, the shape of anomaly is found to be identical to that of flat theories. In particular it is split evenly on the orbifold fixed points. This result also follows from the arguments on the AdS/CFT correspondence and an anomaly cancellation mechanism. The cancellation with Chern-Simons term works if the four-dimensional effective theory is free from chiral anomalies. We also discuss the Fayet-Iliopoulos (FI) term in warped supersymmetric theories. Unlike the gauge anomaly, FI divergences reside not only on the orbifold fixed points but also in the whole five-dimensional bulk. The effect of the FI term is to generate supersymmetric masses for charged hypermultiplets, which are no longer constant but have metric factor dependence. We calculate the spectrum and wavefunctions of Kaluza-Klein modes in the presence of the FI term and discuss phenomenological implications to quark-lepton masses and large scale hierarchies.

Radiative CP Phases in Supergravity Theories

In this letter, we point out that possible sources of CP violation originate from radiative corrections to soft terms which are ubiquitous in supergravity theories and also in other high-energy frameworks of supersymmetry breaking. With these radiative phases of gaugino masses and scalar couplings, a complex phase of Higgs holomorphic mass parameter is generated via renormalization-group running down to low energy. It is found that its phase value is mainly controlled by wino as well as gluino, which generally receive different radiative corrections to their complex phases, even if the leading part of mass parameters follow from the universality hypothesis. The radiatively generated phases are constrained by the existing experimental bounds on electric dipole moments, and may be detectable in future measurements. They are also found to be available for the cancellation mechanism to be worked.

Radiative stabilization of warped space

Higher-dimensional field theory has been applied to explore various issues in recent particle physics such as the gauge hierarchy problem. In order for such approaches to be viable, a crucial ingredient is to fix the sizes of extra dimensions at some finite values, which sizes are generically free parameters in the theory. In this paper, we present several schemes to determine the radius of extra dimension in warped five-dimensional theory. In every case, a non-vanishing Fayet-Iliopoulos term for abelian gauge factor plays a crucial role for the radius stabilization. It is radiatively generated in the presence of charged matter fields and the compactification is therefore spontaneous, not forced by selected operators. The low-energy supersymmetry is broken or unbroken, and the radius can be fixed to give a small or large scale hierarchy without any fine tuning of parameters. We also discuss a model of the radius stabilization correlated with Yukawa hierarchy and supersymmetry breaking.

Field localization in warped gauge theories

We present four-dimensional gauge theories that describe physics on five-dimensional curved (warped) backgrounds, which includes bulk fields with various spins (vectors, spinors, and scalars). Field theory on the AdS$_5$ geometry is examined as a simple example of our formulation. Various properties of bulk fields on this background, e.g., the mass spectrum and field localization behavior, can be achieved within a fully four-dimensional framework. Moreover, that gives a localization mechanism for massless vector fields. We also consider supersymmetric cases, and show in particular that the conditions on bulk masses imposed by supersymmetry on warped backgrounds are derived from a four-dimensional supersymmetric theory on the flat background. As a phenomenological application, models are shown to generate hierarchical Yukawa couplings. Finally, we discuss possible underlying mechanisms which dynamically realize the required couplings to generate curved geometries.

Dynamical Solution to Supersymmetric CP Problem with Vanishing B Parameter

The CP violation gives rise to severe restriction of soft breaking terms in supersymmetric standard models. Among them, constraints on the holomorphic soft mass of Higgs doublets (the B parameter) are difficult to satisfy due to the other inherent problem in the Higgs potential; the mu problem. In this letter, it is argued that these CP and mu problems can be rather relaxed provided that B is vanishing at high-energy scale. A generic mechanism and some examples of model are presented to dynamically realize this condition by introducing gauge singlet fields.

Flavor violation in supersymmetric theories with gauged flavor symmetries

In this paper we study flavor violation in supersymmetric models with gauged flavor symmetries. There are several sources of flavor violation in these theories. The dominant flavor violation is the tree-level $D$-term contribution to scalar masses generated by flavor symmetry breaking. We present a new approach for suppressing this phenomenologically dangerous effects by separating the flavor-breaking sector from supersymmetry-breaking one. The separation can be achieved in geometrical setups or in a dynamical way. We also point out that radiative corrections from the gauginos of gauged flavor symmetries give sizable generation-dependent masses of scalars. The gaugino mass effects are generic and not suppressed even if the dominant $D$-term contribution is suppressed. We also analyze the constraints on the flavor symmetry sector from these flavor-violating corrections.

Infrared alignment of SUSY flavor structures

The various experimental bounds on flavor-changing interactions severely restrict the low-energy flavor structures of soft supersymmetry breaking parameters. In this work, we show that with a particular assumption of Yukawa couplings, the fermion mass and sfermion soft mass matrices are simultaneously diagonalized by common mixing matrices and we then obtain an alignment solution for the flavor problems. The required condition is generated by renormalization group evolutions and achieved at low-energy scale independently of high-energy structures of couplings. In this case, the diagonal entries of the soft scalar mass matrices are determined by gaugino and Higgs soft masses. We also discuss possible realizations of this scenario and the characteristic sparticle spectrum in the models.

Duality between simple-group gauge theories and some applications

In this paper we investigate N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories with a product gauge group. By using smoothly confining dynamics, we can find new dualities which include higher-rank tensor fields, and in which the dual gauge group is simple, not a product. Some of them are dualities between chiral and non-chiral gauge theories. We also discuss some applications to dynamical supersymmetry breaking phenomena and new confining theories with a tree-level superpotential.

Right-handed neutrino mass and bottom-tau ratio in strong coupling unification

The recent results of neutrino experiments indicate the existence of the right-handed neutrinos with masses around intermediate scale, which affects the prediction of the bottom-tau mass ratio. In the minimal supersymmetric standard model, this effect largely depends on the right-handed neutrino mass scale and then may severely limit its lower bound. In this letter, we show that in the case of strong coupling unification the bottom-tau mass ratio is little affected by the presence of the right-handed neutrinos. This is because of the infrared fixed-point behavior of Yukawa couplings, which is a common feature of this kind of model.
