Optimal coordinates for Ricci-flat conifolds

We compute the indicial roots of the Lichnerowicz Laplacian on Ricci-flat cones and give a detailed description of the corresponding radially homogeneous tensor fields in its kernel. For a Ricci-flat conifold $(M,g)$ which may have asymptotically conical as well as conically singular ends, we compute at each end a lower bound for the order with which the metric converges to the tangent cone. As a special subcase of our result, we show that any Ricci-flat ALE manifold $(M^n,g)$ is of order $n$ and thereby close a small gap in a paper by Cheeger and Tian.

A Survey on the Ricci flow on Singular Spaces

In this survey we provide an overview of our recent results concerning Ricci de Turck flow on spaces with isolated conical singularities. The crucial characteristic of the flow is that it preserves the conical singularity. Under certain conditions, Ricci flat metrics with isolated conical singularities are stable and positive scalar curvature is preserved under the flow. We also discuss the relation to Perelman's entropies in the singular setting, and outline open questions and future reseach directions.

Mean curvature flow in asymptotically flat product spacetimes

We consider the long-time behaviour of the mean curvature flow of spacelike hypersurfaces in the Lorentzian product manifold $M\times\mathbb{R}$, where $M$ is asymptotically flat. If the initial hypersurface $F_0\subset M\times\mathbb{R}$ is uniformly spacelike and asymptotic to $M\times\left\{s\right\}$ for some $s\in\mathbb{R}$ at infinity, we show that a mean curvature flow starting at $F_0$ exists for all times and converges uniformly to $M\times\left\{s\right\}$ as $t\to \infty$.

Stability of ALE Ricci-flat manifolds under Ricci flow

We prove that if an ALE Ricci-flat manifold $(M,g)$ is linearly stable and integrable, it is dynamically stable under Ricci flow, i.e. any Ricci flow starting close to g exists for all time and converges modulo diffeomorphism to an ALE Ricci-flat metric close to $g$. By adapting Tian's approach in the closed case, we show that integrability holds for ALE Calabi-Yau manifolds which implies that they are dynamically stable.

Stability of Ricci de Turck flow on Singular Spaces

In this paper we establish stability of the Ricci de Turck flow near Ricci-flat metrics with isolated conical singularities. More precisely, we construct a Ricci de Turck flow which starts sufficiently close to a Ricci-flat metric with isolated conical singularities and converges to a singular Ricci-flat metric under an assumption of integrability, linear and tangential stability. We provide a characterization of conical singularities satisfying tangential stability and discuss examples where the integrability condition is satisfied.

Stability of Einstein metrics under Ricci flow

We prove dynamical stability and instability theorems for compact Einstein metrics under the Ricci flow. We give a nearly complete charactarization of dynamical stability and instability in terms of the conformal Yamabe invariant and the Laplace spectrum. In particular, we prove dynamical stability of some classes of Einstein manifolds for which it was previously not known. Additionally, we show that the complex projective space with the Fubini-Study metric is surprisingly dynamically unstable.

Holonomy rigidity for Ricci-flat metrics

On a closed connected oriented manifold $M$ we study the space $\mathcal{M}_\|(M)$ of all Riemannian metrics which admit a non-zero parallel spinor on the universal covering. Such metrics are Ricci-flat, and all known Ricci-flat metrics are of this form. We show the following: The space $\mathcal{M}_\|(M)$ is a smooth submanifold of the space of all metrics, and its premoduli space is a smooth finite-dimensional manifold. The holonomy group is locally constant on $\mathcal{M}_\|(M)$. If $M$ is spin, then the dimension of the space of parallel spinors is a locally constant function on $\mathcal{M}_\|(M)$.

The Einstein-Lambda flow on product manifolds

We consider the vacuum Einstein flow with a positive cosmological constant on spatial manifolds of product form. In spatial dimension at least four we show the existence of continuous families of recollapsing models whenever at least one of the factors or admits a Riemannian Einstein metric with positive Einstein constant. We moreover show that these families belong to larger continuous families with models that have two complete time directions, i.e. do not recollapse. Complementarily, we show that whenever no factor has positive curvature, then any model in the product class expands in one time direction and collapses in the other. In particular, positive curvature of one factor is a necessary criterion for recollapse within this class. Finally, we relate our results to the instability of the Nariai solution in three spatial dimensions and point out why a similar construction of recollapsing models in that dimension fails. The present results imply that there exist different classes of initial data which exhibit fundamentally different types of long-time behavior under the Einstein flow whenever the spatial dimension is strictly larger than three. Moreover, this behavior is related to the spatial topology through the existence of Riemannian Einstein metrics of positive curvature.

Stability and instability of Ricci solitons

We consider the volume-normalized Ricci flow close to compact shrinking Ricci solitons. We show that if a compact Ricci soliton $(M,g)$ is a local maximum of Perelman's shrinker entropy, any normalized Ricci flow starting close to it exists for all time and converges towards a Ricci soliton. If $g$ is not a local maximum of the shrinker entropy, we show that there exists a nontrivial normalized Ricci flow emerging from it. These theorems are analogues of results in the Ricci-flat and in the Einstein case.
