Positivity of the exterior power of the tangent bundles

Let XX be a complex smooth projective variety such that the exterior power of the tangent bundle ⋀rTX\bigwedge^{r} T_X is nef for some 1≤r<dim⁡X1\leq r<\dim X. We prove that, up to an étale cover, XX is a Fano fiber space over an Abelian variety. This gives generalizations of the structure theorem of varieties with nef tangent bundle by Demailly, Peternell and Schneider and that of varieties with nef ⋀2TX\bigwedge^{2} T_X by the author. Our result also gives an answer to a question raised by Li, Ou and Yang for varieties with strictly nef ⋀rTX\bigwedge^{r} T_X when r<dim⁡Xr < \dim X.

A survey on the Campana-Peternell Conjecture

In 1991 Campana and Peternell proposed, as a natural algebro-geometric extension of Mori's characterization of the projective space, the problem of classifying the complex projective Fano manifolds whose tangent bundle is nef, conjecturing that the only varieties satisfying these properties are rational homogeneous. In this paper we review some background material related to this problem, with special attention to the partial results recently obtained by the authors.

Uniform families of minimal rational curves on Fano manifolds

It is a well-known fact that families of minimal rational curves on rational homogeneous manifolds of Picard number one are uniform, in the sense that the tangent bundle to the manifold has the same splitting type on each curve of the family. In this note we prove that certain --stronger-- uniformity conditions on a family of minimal rational curves on a Fano manifold of Picard number one allow to prove that the manifold is homogeneous.

Rational curves, Dynkin diagrams and Fano manifolds with nef tangent bundle

A Fano manifold XX with nef tangent bundle is of flag-type if it has the same type of elementary contractions as a complete flag manifold. In this paper we present a method to associate a Dynkin diagram D(X)\mathcal{D}(X) with any such XX, based on the numerical properties of its contractions. We then show that D(X)\mathcal{D}(X) is the Dynkin diagram of a semisimple Lie group. As an application we prove that Campana-Peternell conjecture holds when XX is a flag-type manifold whose Dynkin diagram is AnA_n (XX is shown to be the complete flag in Pn\mathbb{P}^n).

On projective manifolds swept out by cubic varieties

We study structures of embedded projective manifolds swept out by cubic varieties. We show if an embedded projective manifold is swept out by high-dimensional smooth cubic hypersurfaces, then it admits an extremal contraction which is a linear projective bundle or a cubic fibration. As an application, we give a characterization of smooth cubic hypersurfaces. We also classify embedded projective manifolds of dimension at most five swept out by copies of the Segre threefold P^1\timesP^2. In the course of the proof, we classify projective manifolds of dimension five swept out by planes.

Lengths of chains of minimal rational curves on Fano manifolds

In this paper, we consider a natural question how many minimal rational curves are needed to join two general points on a Fano manifold X of Picard number 1. In particular, we study the minimal length of such chains in the cases where the dimension of X is at most 5, the coindex of X is at most 3 and X equips with a structure of a double cover. As an application, we give a better bound on the degree of Fano 5-folds of Picard number 1.
