Fidelity susceptibility and topological phase transition of a two dimensional spin-orbit coupled Fermi superfluid

We investigate the fidelity susceptibility (FS) of a two-dimensional spin-orbit coupled (SOC) Fermi superfluid and the topological phase transition driven by a Zeeman field in the perspective of its ground-state wave-function. Without Zeeman coupling, FS shows new features characterizing the BCS-BEC crossover induced by SOC. In the presence of a Zeeman field, the topological phase transition is explored using both FS and the topological invariant. In particular, we obtain the analytical result of the topological invariant which explicitly demonstrates that the topological phase transition corresponds to a sudden change of the ground state wave-function. Consequently, FS diverges at the phase transition point with its critical behavior being: $χ\propto ln|h-h_{c}|$ . Based on this observation, we conclude that the topological phase transition can be detected by measuring the momentum distribution in cold atoms experiment.

Opposite effect of spin-orbit coupling on condensation and superfluidity

We investigated effects of a Rashba-type spin-orbit coupling (SOC) on the condensed density and superfluid density tensor of a two-component Fermi gas in the BCS-BEC crossover at zero temperature. In anisotropic three dimensions (3D), we found that SOC has an opposite effect on condensation (enhanced) and superfluidity (suppressed in the SOC direction) and this effect becomes most pronounced for very weak interactions and the SOC strength being larger than a characteristic value. Furthermore, as functions of SOC strength, the condensed density changes monotonously for all interaction parameters while the superfluid density has a minimum when the interaction parameter is below a critical value. We also discussed the isotropic two dimensional (2D) case where analytical expressions for the gap and number equations were obtained and the same phenomena was found as that of the 3D case.

Optically trapped quasi-two-dimensional Bose gases in random environment: quantum fluctuations and superfluid density

We investigate a dilute Bose gas confined in a tight one-dimensional (1D) optical lattice plus a superimposed random potential at zero temperature. Accordingly, the ground state energy, quantum depletion and superfluid density are calculated. The presence of the lattice introduces a crossover to the quasi-2D regime, where we analyze asymptotically the 2D behavior of the system, particularly the effects of disorder. We thereby offer an analytical expression for the ground state energy of a purely 2D Bose gas in a random potential. The obtained disorder-induced normal fluid density $n_n$ and quantum depletion $n_d$ both exhibit a characteristic $1/\ln\left(1/n_{2D}a_{2D}^{2}\right)$ dependence. Their ratio $n_n/n_d$ increases to $2$ compared to the familiar $4/3$ in lattice-free 3D geometry, signifying a more pronounced contrast between superfluidity and Bose-Einstein condensation in low dimensions. Conditions for possible experimental realization of our scenario are also proposed.
