Attempts on SGA for non-commutative rings

We define non-commutative schemes by using prime ideals of non-commutative rings, and discuss the étale cohomology, the Betti cohomology, and the fundamental groups of non-commutative schemes. For non-commutative schemes which are finite over centers, we prove the finiteness theorem for the higher direct images in étale cohomology theory, and the comparison theorem between étale cohomology and Betti cohomology. In Appendix, for non-commutative schemes over finite fields which are finite over centers and satisfy a certain condition, $L$-functions are expressed by using étale cohomology with compact supports.

Extended period domains, algebraic groups, and higher Albanese manifolds

For a linear algebraic group G over the field of rational numbers, we consider the period domains D classifying G-mixed Hodge structures, and construct the extended period domains as toroidal partial compactifications. We give an interpretation of higher Albanese manifolds by Hain and Zucker by using the above D for some G, and extend them via the toroidal partial compactifications.

Modular symbols and the integrality of zeta elements

We consider modifications of Manin symbols in first homology groups of modular curves with p-adic integer coefficients for an odd prime p. We show that these symbols generate homology in primitive eigenspaces for the action of diamond operators, with a certain condition on the eigenspace that can be removed on Eisenstein parts. We apply this to prove the integrality of maps taking compatible systems of Manin symbols to compatible systems of zeta elements. In the work of the first two authors on an Iwasawa-theoretic conjecture of the third author, these maps are constructed with certain bounded denominators. As a consequence, their main result on the conjecture was proven after inverting p, and the results of this paper allow one to remove this condition.

Modular symbols in Iwasawa theory

This survey paper is focused on a connection between the geometry of $\mathrm{GL}_d$ and the arithmetic of $\mathrm{GL}_{d-1}$ over global fields, for integers $d \ge 2$. For $d = 2$ over $\mathbb{Q}$, there is an explicit conjecture of the third author relating the geometry of modular curves and the arithmetic of cyclotomic fields, and it is proven in many instances by the work of the first two authors. The paper is divided into three parts: in the first, we explain the conjecture of the third author and the main result of the first two authors on it. In the second, we explain an analogous conjecture and result for $d = 2$ over $\mathbb{F}_q(t)$. In the third, we pose questions for general $d$ over the rationals, imaginary quadratic fields, and global function fields.

Ramification theory for varieties over a local field

We define generalizations of classical invariants of wild ramification for coverings on a variety of arbitrary dimension over a local field. For an l-adic sheaf, we define its Swan class as a 0-cycle class supported on the wild ramification locus. We prove a formula of Riemann-Roch type for the Swan conductor of cohomology together with its relative version, assuming that the local field is of mixed characteristic. We also prove the integrality of the Swan class for curves over a local field as a generalization of the Hasse-Arf theorem. We derive a proof of a conjecture of Serre on the Artin character for a group action with an isolated fixed point on a regular local ring, assuming the dimension is 2.

Classifying spaces of degenerating mixed Hodge structures, II: Spaces of SL(2)-orbits

We construct an enlargement of the classifying space of mixed Hodge structures with polarized graded quotients, by adding mixed Hodge theoretic version of SL(2)-orbits. This space has a real analytic structure and a log structure with sign. The SL(2)-orbit theorem in several variables for mixed Hodge structures can be understood naturally with this space.
