On local rings without small Cohen-Macaulay algebras in mixed characteristic

For any $d\ge 4$, by deformation theory of schemes, we present examples of (complete or excellent) $d$-dimensional mixed characteristic normal local domains admitting no small Cohen-Macaulay algebra, but admitting instances of small (maximal) Cohen-Macaulay modules. It is also shown that a graded normal domain over a field whose Proj is an Abelian variety admits a graded small (maximal) Cohen-Macaulay module.

A variant of perfectoid Abhyankar's lemma and almost Cohen-Macaulay algebras

In this paper, we prove that a complete Noetherian local domain of mixed characteristic $p>0$ with perfect residue field has an integral extension that is an integrally closed, almost Cohen-Macaulay domain such that the Frobenius map is surjective modulo $p$. This result is seen as a mixed characteristic analogue of the fact that the perfect closure of a complete local domain in positive characteristic is almost Cohen-Macaulay. To this aim, we carry out a detailed study of decompletion of perfectoid rings and establish the Witt-perfect (decompleted) version of André's perfectoid Abhyankar's lemma and Riemann's extension theorem.

On the semicontinuity problem of fibers and global $F$-regularity

In this article, we discuss the semicontinuity problem of certain properties on fibers for a morphism of schemes. One aspect of this problem is local. Namely, we consider properties of schemes at the level of local rings, in which the main results are established by solving the lifting and localization problems for local rings. In particular, we obtain the localization theorems in the case of seminormal and $F$-rational rings, respectively. Another aspect of this problem is global, which is often related to the vanishing problem of certain higher direct image sheaves. As a test example, we consider the deformation of the global $F$-regularity.

Bertini theorem for normality on local rings in mixed characteristic (applications to characteristic ideals)

In this article, we prove a strong version of local Bertini theorem for normality on local rings in mixed characteristic. The main result asserts that a generic hyperplane section of a normal, Cohen-Macaulay, and complete local domain of dimension at least 3 is normal. Applications include the study of characteristic ideals attached to torsion modules over Noetherian normal domains, which is fundamental in the study of Euler system theory over normal domains and Iwasawa main conjectures.

Almost Cohen-Macaulay and almost regular algebras via almost flat extensions

The present paper deals with various aspects of the notion of almost Cohen-Macaulay property, which was introduced and studied by Roberts, Singh and Srinivas. We employ the definition of almost zero modules as defined by a value map, which is different from the version of Gabber-Ramero. We prove that, if the local cohomology modules of an algebra $T$ of certain type over a local Noetherian ring are almost zero, $T$ maps to a big Cohen-Macaulay algebra. Then we study how the almost Cohen-Macaulay property behaves under almost faithfully flat extension. As a consequence, we study the structure of $F$-coherent rings of positive characteristic in terms of almost regularity.

F-coherent rings with applications to tight closure theory

The aim of this paper is to introduce a new class of Noetherian rings of positive characteristic in terms of perfect closures and study their basic properties. If the perfect closure of a Noetherian ring is coherent, we call it an $F$-coherent ring. Some interesting applications are given in connection with tight closure theory. In particular, we discuss relationships between $F$-coherent rings and $F$-pure, $F$-regular, and $F$-injective rings. The final section discusses how the coherent property effects the behavior of tight closure for general perfect rings.
