Equivalence relations between conical 2-designs and mutually unbiased generalized equiangular tight frames

Quantum measurements play a fundamental role in quantum information. Therefore, increasing efforts are being made to construct symmetric measurement operators for qudit systems. A wide class of projective measurements corresponds to complex projective 2-designs, which include symmetric, informationally complete (SIC) POVMs and mutually unbiased bases (MUBs). In this paper, we establish a one-to-one correspondence between conical 2-designs and mutually unbiased generalized equiangular tight frames, both of which are common generalizations of SIC POVMs and MUBs to operators of arbitrary rank. It turns out that there exist rich families of operators that belong to only one of those two classes. This raises important questions about which symmetries have to be preserved for applicational prominence.

All classes of informationally complete symmetric measurements in finite dimensions

A broad class of informationally complete symmetric measurements is introduced. It can be understood as a common generalization of symmetric, informationally complete POVMs and mutually unbiased bases. Additionally, it provides a natural way to define two new families of mutually unbiased symmetric measurement operators in any finite dimension. We show a general method of their construction, together with an example of an optimal measurement. Finally, we analyze the properties of symmetric measurements and provide applications in entropic relations and entanglement detection.

Indecomposable entanglement witnesses from symmetric measurements

We propose a family of positive maps constructed from a recently introduced class of symmetric measurements. These maps are used to define entanglement witnesses, which include other popular approaches with mutually unbiased bases and mutually unbiased measurements. A particular interest is given to indecomposable witnesses that can be used to detect entanglement of quantum states with positive partial transposition. We present several examples for different number of measurements.

Non-Markovianity criteria for mixtures of noninvertible Pauli dynamical maps

We analyze the connections between the non-Markovianity degree of the most general phase-damping qubit maps and their legitimate mixtures. Using the results for image non-increasing dynamical maps, we formulate the necessary and sufficient conditions for the Pauli maps to satisfy specific divisibility criteria. Next, we examine how the non-Markovianity properties for (in general noninvertible) Pauli dynamical maps influence the properties of their convex combinations. Our results are illustrated with instructive examples. For P-divisible maps, we propose a legitimate time-local generator whose all decoherence rates are temporarily infinite.

Generalization of Pauli channels through mutually unbiased measurements

We introduce a new generalization of the Pauli channels using the mutually unbiased measurement operators. The resulting channels are bistochastic but their eigenvectors are not unitary. We analyze the channel properties, such as complete positivity, entanglement breaking, and multiplicativity of maximal output purity. We illustrate our results with the maps constructed from the Gell-Mann matrices and the Heisenberg-Weyl observables.

Geometry of generalized Pauli channels

We analyze the geometry of the generalized Pauli channels constructed from the mutually unbiased bases. The Choi-Jamiołkowski isomorphism allows us to express the Hilbert-Schmidt line and volume elements in terms of the eigenvalues of the generalized Pauli maps. After determining appropriate regions of integration, we analytically compute the volume of generalized Pauli channels and their important subclasses. In particular, we obtain the volumes of the generalized Pauli channels that can be generated by a legitimate generator and are entanglement breaking. We also provide the upper bound for the volume of positive, trace-preserving generalized Pauli maps.

Geometry of symmetric and non-invertible Pauli channels

We analyze the geometry of positive and completely positive, trace preserving Pauli maps that are fully determined by up to two distinct parameters. This includes five classes of symmetric and non-invertible Pauli channels. Using the Hilbert-Schmidt metric in the space of the Choi-Jamio\lkowski states, we compute the relative volumes of entanglement breaking, time-local generated, and divisible channels. Finally, we find the shapes of the complete positivity regions in relation to the tetrahedron of all Pauli channels.

Markovian semigroup from mixing non-invertible dynamical maps

We analyze the convex combinations of non-invertible generalized Pauli dynamical maps. By manipulating the mixing parameters, one can produce a channel with shifted singularities, additional singularities, or even no singularities whatsoever. In particular, we show how to use non-invertible dynamical maps to produce the Markovian semigroup. Interestingly, the maps whose mixing results in a semigroup are generated by the time-local generators and time-homogeneous memory kernels that are not regular; i.e., their formulas contain infinities. Finally, we show how the generators and memory kernels change after mixing the corresponding dynamical maps.

Geometry of the Pauli maps and Pauli channels

We analyze the geometrical properties of trace-preserving Pauli maps. Using the Choi-Jamio\lkowski isomorphism, we express the Hilbert-Schmidt line and volume elements in terms of the eigenvalues of the Pauli map. We analytically compute the volumes of positive, trace-preserving Pauli maps and Pauli channels. In particular, we find the relative volumes of the entanglement breaking Pauli channels, as well as the channels that can be generated by a time-local generator. Finally, we show what part of the Pauli channels are P and CP-divisible, which is related to the notion of Markovianity.

Decoherence of a qubit as a diffusion on the Bloch sphere

We analyze qubit decoherence in the framework of geometric quantum mechanics. In this framework the qubit density operators are represented by probability distributions which are also the Kähler functions on the Bloch sphere. Interestingly, the complete positivity of the quantum evolution is recovered as ellipticity of the second order differential operator (deformed Laplacian) which governs the evolution of the probability distribution.
