A phase transition for tails of the free multiplicative convolution powers

We study the behavior of the tail of a measure $μ^{\boxtimes t}$, where $\boxtimes t$ is the $t$-fold free multiplicative convolution power for $t\geq 1$. We focus on the case where $μ$ is a probability measure on the positive half-line with a regularly varying tail i.e. of the form $x^{-α} L(x)$, where $L$ is slowly varying. We obtain a phase transition in the behavior of the tail of $μ^{\boxplus t}$ between regimes $α<1$ and $α>1$. Our main tool is a description of the regularly varying tails of $μ$ in terms of the behavior of the corresponding $S$-transform at $0^-$. We also describe the tails of $\boxtimes$ infinitely divisible measures in terms of the tails of corresponding Lévy measure, treat symmetric measures with regularly varying tails and prove the free analog of the Breiman lemma.

Asymptotic $\ast$--distribution of permuted Haar unitary matrices

We study Haar unitary random matrices with permuted entries. For a sequence of permutations $\left(σ_N\right)_N$, where $σ_N$ acts on $N\times N$ matrices we identify conditions under which the $\ast$--distribution of permuted Haar unitary matrices $U_N^{σ_N}$ is asymptotically circular and free from the unpermuted sequence $U_N$. We show that this convergence takes place in the almost sure sense. Moreover we show that our conditions on the sequence of permutations are generic in the sense that are almost surely satisfied by a sequence of random permutations.

On free Generalized Inverse Gaussian distributions

We study here properties of free Generalized Inverse Gaussian distributions (fGIG) in free probability. We show that in many cases the fGIG shares similar properties with the classical GIG distribution. In particular we prove that fGIG is freely infinitely divisible, free regular and unimodal, and moreover we determine which distributions in this class are freely selfdecomposable. In the second part of the paper we prove that for free random variables $X,Y$ where $Y$ has a free Poisson distribution one has $X\stackrel{d}{=}\frac{1}{X+Y}$ if and only if $X$ has fGIG distribution for special choice of parameters. We also point out that the free GIG distribution maximizes the same free entropy functional as the classical GIG does for the classical entropy.

Dual Lukacs regressions of negative orders for non-commutative variables

In the paper we study characterizations of probability measures in free probability. By constancy of regressions for random variable $\V(\I-\U)\V$ given by $\V\U\V$, where $\U$ and $\V$ are free, we characterize free Poisson and free binomial distributions. Our paper is analog in free probability of results known in classical probability \cite{BobWes2002Dual}, where gamma and beta distributions are characterized by constancy of $\E((V(1-U))^{i}|UV)$, for $i \in \{-2,-1,1,2\}$. This paper together with previous results \cite{SzpojanWesol} exhaust all cases of characterizations from \cite{BobWes2002Dual}.

On the Lukacs property for free random variables

The Lukacs property of the free Poisson distribution is studied here. We prove that if free $\X$ and $\Y$ are free Poisson distributed with suitable parameters, then $\X+\Y$ and $\left(\X+\Y\right)^{-\frac{1}{2}}\X\left(\X+\Y\right)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$ are free. As as an auxiliary result we give joint cumulants of $\X$ and $\X^{-1}$ for free Poisson distributed $\X$. We also study the Lukacs property of the free gamma distribution.
