Time-dependent density functional theory study of strong-field laser-induced coulomb explosion of the HCl dimer

We present a channel-resolved interpretation of laser-driven Coulomb explosion of the HCl dimer from an ensemble of trajectories. Three dominant outcomes are identified: a minor three-body channel and two four-body channels (sequential and near-simultaneous dissociation of both molecules). The key result is that pathway selection is strongly correlated with the degree of ionization during the laser interaction, which is in turn strongly modulated by laser-molecule orientation. Higher early-time ionization predisposes the system toward near-simultaneous four-body breakup, whereas lower ionization favors sequential and three-body fragmentation; for low-ionization cases, a fragment-resolved charge metric further differentiates three-body and sequential behavior. These charge-dependent trends consistently map onto experimentally accessible observables: the simultaneous mechanism dominates the high-energy tail of the kinetic energy release (KER) spectrum and populate distinct regions of the emission-angle distributions, while sequential events concentrate at lower KER. Overall, early-time charge evolution provides a unifying explanation for channel branching and for the channel-resolved fragmentation signatures.

Stochastic Variational Approach to Small Atoms and Molecules Coupled to Quantum Field Modes

In this work, we present a stochastic variational calculation (SVM) of energies and wave functions of few particle systems coupled to quantum fields in cavity QED. The light-matter coupled system is described by the Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonian. The spatial wave function and the photon spaces are optimized by a random selection process. Examples for a two-dimensional trion and confined electrons as well as for the He atom and the Hydrogen molecule are presented showing that the light-matter coupling drastically changes the electronic states.

Coupled Maxwell and Time-Dependent Orbital Free Density Functional Calculations

Coupled Maxwell and time-dependent orbital-free calculations are implemented and tested to describe the interaction of electromagnetic waves and matter. The currents and induced fields predicted by the orbital-free calculations are compared to time-dependent density functional calculations and very good agreement is found for various systems including jellium sheets, jellium spheres, atomistic sheets, and icosahedron clusters.

Excited-State Trions in Two Dimensional Materials

Using the complex scaling and the stabilization method combined with the stochastic variational approach, we have shown that there are narrow resonance states in two-dimensional three particle systems of electrons and holes interacting via screened Coulomb interaction. These resonances are loosely bound systems of excited state excitons with a third particle circling around them. Recent experimental studies of excited state trions might be explained and identified by these resonant states.

Ground and Excited Exciton Polarons in Monolayer MoSe2

Monolayer transition metal dichalcogenide semiconductors, with versatile experimentally accessible exciton species, offer an interesting platform for investigating the interaction between excitons and a Fermi sea of charges. Using hexagonal boron nitride encapsulated monolayer MoSe2, we study the impact of charge density tuning on the ground and excited Rydberg states in the atomic layer. Consistent excitonpolaron behavior is revealed in both photoluminescence and reflection spectra of the A exciton 1s (A:1s) Rydberg state, in contrast to previous studies. The A:2s Rydberg state provides an opportunity to understand such interactions with greatly reduced exciton binding energy. We found that the impact of the Fermi sea becomes much more dramatic. With a photoluminescence upconversion technique, we further verify the 2s polaron-like behavior for the repulsive branch of B:2s exciton whose energy is well above the bare bandgap. Our studies show that the polaron-like interaction features are quite generic and highly robust, offering key insights into the dressed manybody state in a Fermi sea.

Simulation of a Hydrogen Atom in Laser Field Using the Time-Dependent Variational Principle

The time-dependent variational principle is used to optimize the linear and nonlinear parameters of Gaussian basis functions to solve the time-dependent Schrodinger equation in 1 and 3 dimensions for a one-body soft Coulomb potential in a laser field. The accuracy is tested comparing the solution to finite difference grid calculations using several examples. The approach is not limited to one particle systems and the example presented for two electrons demonstrates the potential to tackle larger systems using correlated basis functions.

Isospin Mass Splittings of Baryons in Potential Models

We discuss the isospin-breaking mass differences among baryons, with particular attention in the charm sector to the $Σ_c^{+}-Σ_c^0$, $Σ_c^{++}-Σ_c^0$, and $Ξ_c^+-Ξ_c^0$ splittings. Simple potential models cannot accommodate the trend of the available data on charmed baryons. More precise measurements would offer the possibility of testing how well potential models describe the non-perturbative limit of QCD.
