Dispersion for Schrödinger operators on regular trees

We prove dispersive estimates for two models~: the adjacency matrix on a discrete regular tree, and the Schrödinger equation on a metric regular tree with the same potential on each edge/vertex. The latter model can be thought of as an extension of the case of periodic Schrödinger operators on the real line. We establish a $t^{-3/2}$-decay for both models which is sharp, as we give the first-order asymptotics.

Positive and negative exact boundary controllability results for the linear Biharmonic Schrödinger equation

In this paper, we study the exact boundary controllability of the linear Biharmonic Schrödinger equation $i\partial_ty=-\partial_x^4y+ γ\partial_x^2y$ on a bounded domain with hinged boundary conditions and boundary control acts on the second spatial derivative at the {left} endpoint, where the parameter $γ<0$. We prove that this system is exactly controllable in time $T>0$, if and only if, the parameter $γ$ does not belong to a critical countable set of negative real numbers. The analysis in this work is based on spectral analysis together with the nonharmonic Fourier series method.

Exact boundary controllability of the linear Biharmonic Schrödinger equation with variable coefficients

In this paper, we study the exact boundary controllability of the linear fourth-order Schrödinger equation, with variable physical parameters and clamped boundary conditions on a bounded interval. The control acts on the first spatial derivative at the left endpoint. We prove that this control system is exactly controllable at any time $T>0$. The proofs are based on a detailed spectral analysis and on the use of nonharmonic Fourier series.

Boundary stabilization of a one-dimensional wave equation by a switching time-delay: a theoretical and numerical study

This paper deals with the boundary stabilization problem of a one-dimensional wave equation with a switching time-delay in the boundary. We show that the problem is well-posed in the sense of semigroups theory of linear operators. Then, we provide a theoretical and numerical study of the exponential stability of the system under an appropriate delay coefficient.

Controllability of localized quantum states on infinite graphs through bilinear control fields

In this work, we consider the bilinear Schrödinger equation $i\partial_tψ=-Δψ+u(t)Bψ$ in the Hilbert space $L^2(\mathcal{G},\mathbb{C})$ with $\mathcal{G}$ an infinite graph. The Laplacian $-Δ$ is equipped with self-adjoint boundary conditions, $B$ is a bounded symmetric operator and $u\in L^2((0,T),\mathbb{R})$ with $T>0$. We study the well-posedness in suitable subspaces of $D(|Δ|^{3/2})$ preserved by the dynamics despite the dispersive behaviour of the equation. In such spaces, we study the global exact controllability and the {\virgolette{energetic controllability}}. We provide examples involving for instance infinite tadpole graphs.

Ergodicity effects on transport-diffusion equations with localized damping

The main objective of this paper is to study the time decay of transport-diffusion equation with inhomogeneous localized damping in the multi-dimensional torus. The drift is governed by an autonomous Lipschitz vector field and the diffusion by the standard heat equation with small viscosity parameter $ν$. In the first part we deal with the inviscid case and show some results on the time decay of the energy using in a crucial way the ergodicity and the unique ergodicity of the flow generated by the drift. In the second part we analyze the same problem with small viscosity and provide quite similar results on the exponential decay uniformly with respect to the viscosity in some logarithmic time scaling of the \mbox{type $t\in [0,C_0\ln(1/ν)]$}.

Logarithmic stabilization of an acoustic system with a damping term of Brinkman type

We study the problem of stabilization for the acoustic system with a spatially distributed damping. Without imposing any hypotheses on the structural properties of the damping term, we identify logarithmic decay of solutions with growing time. Logarithmic decay rate is shown by using a frequency domain method and combines a contradiction argument with the multiplier technique and a new Carleman estimate to carry out a special analysis for the resolvent.

Qualitative and numerical study of the stability of a nonlinear time-delayed dispersive equation

This paper deals with the stability analysis of a nonlinear time-delayed dispersive equation of order four. First, we prove the well-posedness of the system and give some regularity results. Then, we show that the zero solution of the system exponentially converges to zero when the time tends to infinity provided that the time-delay is small and the damping term satisfies reasonable conditions. Lastly, an intensive numerical study is put forward and numerical illustrations of the stability result are provided.

Stabilization for the wave equation with singular Kelvin-Voigt damping

We consider the wave equation with Kelvin-Voigt damping in a bounded domain. The exponential stability result proposed by Liu and Rao or Tébou for that system assumes that the damping is localized in a neighborhood of the whole or a part of the boundary under some consideration. In this paper we propose to deal with this geometrical condition by considering a singular Kelvin-Voigt damping which is localized faraway from the boundary. In this particular case it was proved by Liu and Liu the lack of the uniform decay of the energy. However, we show that the energy of the wave equation decreases logarithmically to zero as time goes to infinity. Our method is based on the frequency domain method. The main feature of our contribution is to write the resolvent problem as a transmission system to which we apply a specific Carleman estimate.

Interior feedback stabilization of wave equations with dynamic boundary delay

In this paper we consider an interior stabilization problem for the wave equation with dynamic boundary delay. We prove some stability results under the choice of damping operator. The proof of the main result is based on a frequency domain method and combines a contradiction argument with the multiplier technique to carry out a special analysis for the resolvent.

Determining a boundary coefficient in a dissipative wave equation: Uniqueness and directional lipschitz stability

We are concerned with the problem of determining the damping boundary coefficient appearing in a dissipative wave equation from a single boundary measurement. We prove that the uniqueness holds at the origin provided that the initial condition is appropriately chosen. We show that the choice of the initial condition leading to uniqueness is related to a fine version of unique continuation property for elliptic operators. We also establish a Lipschitz directional stability estimate at the origin, which is obtained by a linearization process.

Dispersive effects for the Schrödinger equation on a tadpole graph

We consider the free Schrödinger group $e^{-it \frac{d^2}{dx^2}}$ on a tadpole graph ${\mathcal R}$. We first show that the time decay estimates $L^1 ({\mathcal R}) \rightarrow L^\infty ({\mathcal R})$ is in $|t|^{-\frac12}$ with a constant independent of the length of the circle. Our proof is based on an appropriate decomposition of the kernel of the resolvent. Further we derive a dispersive perturbation estimate, which proves that the solution on the queue of the tadpole converges uniformly, after compensation of the underlying time decay, to the solution of the Neumann half-line problem, as the circle shrinks to a point. To obtain this result, we suppose that the initial condition fulfills a high frequency cutoff.

Logarithmic stability in determining two coefficients in a dissipative wave equation. Extensions to clamped Euler-Bernoulli beam and heat equations

We are concerned with the inverse problem of determining both the potential and the damping coefficient in a dissipative wave equation from boundary measurements. We establish stability estimates of logarithmic type when the measurements are given by the operator who maps the initial condition to Neumann boundary trace of the solution of the corresponding initial-boundary value problem. We build a method combining an observability inequality together with a spectral decomposition. We also apply this method to a clamped Euler-Bernoulli beam equation. Finally, we indicate how the present approach can be adapted to a heat equation.

Stability of a tree-shaped network of strings and beams

In this paper we study the stability of a tree-shaped network of elastic strings and beams with some feedbacks at the ends. The whole system is asymptotically stable. Moreover, the energy of the solution decay exponentially to zero if there is no beam following a string ( from the root to the leaves) and decay polynomially if not. We use a frequency domain method from the semigroups theory.

Dispersive effects and high frequency behaviour for the Schrödinger equation in star-shaped networks

We prove the time decay estimates $L^1({\cal R}) \rightarrow L^\infty ({\cal R}),$ where ${\cal R}$ is an infinite star-shaped network, for the Schrödinger group $e^{it(- \frac{d^2}{dx^2} + V)}$ for real-valued potentials $V$ satisfying some regularity and decay assumptions. Further we show that the solution for initial conditions with a lower cutoff frequency tends to the free solution, if the cutoff frequency tends to infinity.

The best decay rate of the damped plate equation in a square

In this paper we study the best decay rate of the solutions of a damped plate equation in a square and with a homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. We show that the fastest decay rate is given by the supremum of the real part of the spectrum of the infinitesimal generator of the underlying semigroup, if the damping coefficient is in $L^\infty(Ω).$ Moreover, we give some numerical illustrations by spectral computation of the spectrum associated to the damped plate equation. The numerical results obtained for various cases of damping are in a good agreement with theoretical ones. Computation of the spectrum and energy of discrete solution of damped plate show that the best decay rate is given by spectral abscissa of numerical solution.

Local feedback stabilisation to a non-stationary solution for a damped non-linear wave equation

We study a damped semi-linear wave equation in a bounded domain with smooth boundary. It is proved that any sufficiently smooth solution can be stabilised locally by a finite-dimensional feedback control supported by a given open subset satisfying a geometric condition. The proof is based on an investigation of the linearised equation, for which we construct a stabilising control satisfying the required properties. We next prove that the same control stabilises locally the non-linear problem.
