2-local derivations on the Jacobson-Witt algebras in prime characteristic

This paper initiates the study of 2-local derivations on Lie algebras over fields of prime characteristic. Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple Jacobson-Witt algebra $W_n$ over a field of prime characteristic $p$ with cardinality no less than $p^n$. In this paper, we study properties of 2-local derivations on $\mathfrak{g}$, and show that every 2-local derivation on $\mathfrak{g}$ is a derivation.

Local and $2$-local automorphisms of simple generalized Witt algebras

In this paper, we prove that every invertible $2$-local or local automorphism of a simple generalized Witt algebra over any field of characteristic $0$ is an automorphism. In particular, every $2$-local or local automorphism of Witt algebras $W_n$ is an automorphism for all $n\in \mathbb{N}$. But some simple generalized Witt algebras indeed have $2$-local (and local) automorphisms that are not automorphisms.

Simple Witt modules that are finitely generated over the cartan subalgebra

Let $d\ge1$ be an integer, $W_d$ and $\mathcal{K}_d$ be the Witt algebra and the weyl algebra over the Laurent polynomial algebra $A_d=\mathbb{C} [x_1^{\pm1}, x_2^{\pm1}, ..., x_d^{\pm1}]$, respectively. For any $\mathfrak{gl}_d$-module $M$ and any admissible module $P$ over the extended Witt algebra $\widetilde W_d$, we define a $W_d$-module structure on the tensor product $P\otimes M$. We prove in this paper that any simple $W_d$-module that is finitely generated over the cartan subalgebra is a quotient module of the $W_d$-module $P \otimes M$ for a finite dimensional simple $\mathfrak{gl}_d$-module $M$ and a simple $\mathcal{K}_d$-module $P$ that are finitely generated over the cartan subalgebra. We also characterize all simple $\mathcal{K}_d$-modules and all simple admissible $\widetilde W_d$-modules that are finitely generated over the cartan subalgebra.

Certain families of Polynomials arising in the study of hyperelliptic Lie algebras

The associative ring $R(P(t))=\mathbb C[t^{\pm1},u \,|\, u^2=P(t)]$, where $P(t)=\sum_{i=0}^na_it^i=\prod_{k=1}^n(t-α_i)$ with $α_i\in\mathbb C$ pairwise distinct, is the coordinate ring of a hyperelliptic curve. The Lie algebra $\mathcal{R}(P(t))=\text{Der}(R(P(t)))$ of derivations is called the hyperelliptic Lie algebra associated to $P(t)$. In this paper we describe the universal central extension of $\text{Der}(R(P(t)))$ in terms of certain families of polynomials which in a particular case are associated Legendre polynomials. Moreover we describe certain families of polynomials that arise in the study of the group of units for the ring $R(P(t))$ where $P(t)=t^4-2bt^2+1$. In this study pairs of Chebychev polynomials $(U_n,T_n)$ arise as particular cases of a pairs $(r_n,s_n)$ with $r_n+s_n\sqrt{P(t)}$ a unit in $R(P(t))$. We explicitly describe these polynomial pairs as coefficients of certain generating functions and show certain of these polynomials satisfy particular second order linear differential equations.

Graded simple Lie algebras and graded simple representations

For any finitely generated abelian group $Q$, we reduce the problem of classification of $Q$-graded simple Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of "good" characteristic to the problem of classification of gradings on simple Lie algebras. In particular, we obtain the full classification of finite-dimensional $Q$-graded simple Lie algebras over any algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$ based on the recent classification of gradings on finite dimensional simple Lie algebras. We also reduce classification of simple graded modules over any $Q$-graded Lie algebra (not necessarily simple) to classification of gradings on simple modules. For finite-dimensional $Q$-graded semisimple algebras we obtain a graded analogue of the Weyl Theorem.

Irreducible representations of untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebras

In this paper we construct a class of new irreducible modules over untwisted affine Kac-Moody algebras $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$, generalizing and including both highest weight modules and Whittaker modules. These modules allow us to obtain a complete classification of irreducible $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules on which the action of each root vector in $\widetilde{\mathfrak{n}}_+$ is locally finite, where $\widetilde{\mathfrak{n}}_+$ is the locally nilpotent subalgebra (or positive part) of $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$. The necessary and sufficient conditions for two such irreducible $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules to be isomorphic are also determined. In the second part of the paper, we use the "shifting technique" to obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for the tensor product of irreducible integrable loop $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules and irreducible integrable highest weight $\widetilde{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules to be simple. This tensor product problem was originally studied by Chari and Pressley 28 years ago.

Whittaker modules for the affine Lie algebra $A_1 ^{(1)}$

We prove the irreducibility of the universal non-degenerate Whittaker modules for the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{sl_2}$ of type $A_1^{(1)}$ with noncritical level which are also irreducible Whittaker modules over $\widetilde{sl_2} =\widehat{sl_2} + {\Bbb C} d $ with the same Whittaker function and central charge. We have to modulo a central character for ${sl_2}$ to obtain irreducible degenerate Whittaker $\widehat{sl_2} $-modules with noncritical level. In the case of critical level the universal Whittaker module is reducible. We prove that the quotient of universal Whittaker $\widehat{sl_2}$--module by a submodule generated by a scalar action of central elements of the vertex algebra $V_{-2}(sl_2)$ is irreducible as $\widehat{sl_2}$--module. We also explicitly describe the simple quotients of universal Whittaker modules at the critical level for $\widetilde{sl_2}$. Quite surprisingly, with the same Whittaker function and the same central character of $V_{-2}(sl_2)$, some irreducible $\widetilde{sl_2}$ Whittaker modules can have semisimple or free action of $d$. At last, by using vertex algebraic techniques we present a Wakimoto type construction of a family of generalized Whittaker irreducible modules for $\widehat{sl_2}$ at the critical level. This family includes all classical Whittaker modules at critical level. We also have Wakimoto type realization for irreducible degenrate Whittaker modules for $\widehat{sl_2}$ at noncritical level.

$\W_n^+$- and $W_n$-module structures on $U(h)$

Let $\h_n$ be the Cartan subalgebra of the Witt algebras $\W_n^+=\text{Der}\C[t_1, t_2, ..., t_n]$ and $\W_n=\text{Der}\C[t_1^{\pm 1},t_2^{\pm 1},\cdots,t_n^{\pm1}]$ where $1\le n\le \infty$. In this paper, we classify the modules over $\W_n^+$ and over $\W_n$ which are free $U(\h_n)$-modules of rank $1$. These are the $\W_n^+$-modules $Ω(Λ_{n},a, S) $ for some $Λ_n=(λ_1,\cdots,λ_n) \in (\C^*)^n, a\in \C$, and $S\subset \{1,2,..., n\}$; and $\W_n$-modules $Ω(Λ_n,a)$ for some $Λ_n\in (\C^*)^n$ and some $a\in \C.$

Finite-dimensional simple modules over generalized Heisenberg algebras

Generalized Heisenberg algebras $\H(f)$ for any polynomial $f(h)\in\C[h]$ have been used to explain various physical systems and many physical phenomena for the last 20 years. In this paper, we first obtain the center of $\H(f)$, and the necessary and sufficient conditions on $f$ for two $\H(f)$ to be isomorphic. Then we determine all finite dimensional simple modules over $\H(f)$ for any polynomial $f(h)\in\C[h]$. If $f=wh+c$ for any $c\in \C$ and $n$-th ($n>1$) primitive root $w$ of unity we actually obtain a complete classification of all irreducible modules over $\mathcal{H}(f)$. For many $f\in\C[h]$, we also prove that, for any $n\in\N$, $\mathcal{H}(f)$ has infinitely many ideals $I_n$ such that $\mathcal{H}(f)/I_n\cong M_n(\C)$, the matrix algebra.

Irreducible weight modules over Witt algebras with infinite dimensional weight spaces

Let $d>1$ be an integer. In 1986, Shen defined a class of weight modules $F^α_b(V)$ over the Witt algebra $\mathcal{W}_d$ for $\a\in\C^d$, $b\in\C$, and an irreducible module $ V$ over the special linear Lie algebra $\sl_d$. In 1996, Eswara Rao determined the necessary and sufficient conditions for these modules to be irreducible when $V$ is finite dimensional. In this note, we will determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for all these modules $F^α_b(V)$ to be irreducible where $V$ is not necessarily finite dimensional. Therefore we obtain a lot of irreducible $\mathcal{W}_d$-modules with infinite dimensional weight spaces.

$N$-point Virasoro Algebras and Their Modules of Densities

In this paper we introduce and study $n$-point Virasoro algebras, $\tilde{\W_a}$, which are natural generalizations of the classical Virasoro algebra and have as quotients multipoint genus zero Krichever-Novikov type algebras. We determine necessary and sufficient conditions for the latter two such Lie algebras to be isomorphic. Moreover we determine their automorphisms, their derivation algebras, their universal central extensions, and some other properties. The list of automorphism groups that occur is $C_n$, $D_n$, $A_4$, $S_4$ and $A_5$. We also construct a large class of modules which we call modules of densities, and determine necessary and sufficient conditions for them to be irreducible.

Generalized oscillator representations of the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra

In this paper, we first obtain a general result on sufficient conditions for tensor product modules to be simple over an arbitrary Lie algebra. We classify simple modules with a nice property over the infinite-dimensional Heisenberg algebra ${\H}$, and then obtain a lot of simple modules over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra $\LL$ from generalized oscillator representations of $\LL$ by extending these $\H$-modules. We give the necessary and sufficient conditions for Whittaker modules over $\LL$ (in the more general setting) to be simple. We use the "shifting technique" to determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for the tensor products of highest weight modules and modules of intermediate series over $\LL$ to be simple. At last we establish the "embedding trick" to obtain a lot more simple $\LL$-modules.

A new method of finding all Roots of simple quaternionic polynomials

In this paper, we provide a new method to find all zeros of polynomials with quaternionic coefficients located on only one side of the powers of the variable (these polynomials are called simple polynomials). This method is much more efficient and much simpler than the known one in [D. Janovska and G. Opfer, A note on the computation of all zeros of simple quaternionic polynomials, SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 48(1)(2010), pp. 244-256]. We recover several known results, and deduce several interesting consequences concerning solving equations with all real coefficients or complex coefficients which do not seem to be deduced easily from the results in [D. Janovska and G. Opfer, A note on the computation of all zeros of simple quaternionic polynomials, SIAM J. Numer. Anal., 48(1)(2010), pp. 244-256]. We also give a necessary and sufficient condition for a simple quaternionic polynomials to have finitely many solutions (only isolated solutions).

Automorphisms and derivations of Borel subalgebras and their nilradicals in Kac-Moody algebras

In this paper, we determine derivations of Borel subalgebras and their derived subalgebras called nilradicals, in Kac-Moody algebras (and contragredient Lie algebras) over any field of characteristic 0; and we also determine automorphisms of those subalgebras in symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras. The results solve a conjecture posed by R. V. Moody about 30 years ago which generalizes a result by B. Kostant and which is discussed by A. Fialowski using Lie algebra cohomology in case of affine type.

Classification of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules over the loop-Virasoro algebra

The loop-Virasoro algebra is the Lie algebra of the tensor product of the Virasoro algebra and the Laurent polynomial algebra. This paper classifies irreducible Harish-Chandra modules over the loop-Virasoro algebra, which turn out to be highest weight modules, lowest weight modules and evaluation modules of the intermediate series (all wight spaces are 1-dimensional). As a by-product, we obtain a classification of irreducible Harish-Chandra modules over truncated Virasoro algebras. We also determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for highest weigh irreducible modules over the loop-Virasoro algebra to have all finite dimensional weight spaces, as well as the necessary and sufficient conditions for highest weigh Verma modules to be irreducible.

preprint2005arXiv

Classification of simple weight Virasoro modules with a finite-dimensional weight space

We show that the support of a simple weight module over the Virasoro algebra, which has an infinite-dimensional weight space, coincides with the weight lattice and that all non-trivial weight spaces of such module are infinite dimensional. As a corollary we obtain that every simple weight module over the Virasoro algebra, having a non-trivial finite-dimensional weight space, is a Harish-Chandra module (and hence is either a simple highest or lowest weight module or a simple module from the intermediate series). This implies positive answers to two conjectures about simple pointed and simple mixed modules over the Virasoro algebra.

Classification of derivation-simple color algebras related to locally finite derivations

We classify the pairs $(A,D)$ consisting of an $(ε,Γ)$-olor-commutative associative algebra $A$ with an identity element over an algebraically closed field $F$ of characteristic zero and a finite dimensional subspace $D$ of $(ε,Γ)$-color-commutative locally finite color-derivations of $A$ such that $A$ is $Γ$-graded $D$-simple and the eigenspaces for elements of $D$ are $Γ$-graded. Such pairs are the important ingredients in constructing some simple Lie color algebras which are in general not finitely-graded. As some applications, using such pairs, we construct new explicit simple Lie color algebras of generalized Witt type, Weyl type.

preprint2003arXiv

Simple Lie Color Algebras of Weyl Type

For an $(ε,G)$-color-commutative associative algebra $A$ with an identity element over a field $F$ of characteristic not 2, and for a color-commutative subalgebra $D$ of color-derivations of $A$, denote by $A[D]$ the associative subalgebra of ${\rm End}(A)$ generated by $A$ (regarding as operators on $A$ via left multiplication) and $D$. It is easily proved that, as an associative algebra, $A[D]$ is $G$-graded simple if and only if $A$ is $\G$-graded $D$-simple. Suppose $A$ is $\G$-graded $D$-simple. Then, (a) $A[D]$ is a free left $A$-module; (b) as a Lie color algebra, the subquotient $[A[D],A[D]]/Z(A[D])\cap[A[D],A[D]]$ is simple (except one minor case), where $Z(A[D])$ is the color center of $A[D]$. The structure of this subquotient is explicitly described.

Simple algebras of Weyl type

Over a field $F$ of any characteristic, for a commutative associative algebra $A$ with an identity element and for the polynomial algebra $F[D]$ of a commutative derivation subalgebra $D$ of $A$, the associative and the Lie algebras of Weyl type on the same vector space $A[D]=A\otimes F[D]$ are defined. It is proved that $A[D]$, as a Lie algebra (modular its center) or as an associative algebra, is simple if and only if $A$ is $D$-simple and $A[D]$ acts faithfully on $A$. Thus a lot of simple algebras are obtained.
