Zero-range process in random environment

We survey our recent articles dealing with one dimensional attractive zero range processes moving under site disorder. We suppose that the underlying random walks are biased to the right and so hyperbolic scaling is expected. Under the conditions of our model the process admits a maximal invariant measure. The initial focus of the project was to find conditions on the initial law to entail convergence in distribution to this maximal distribution, when it has a finite density. Somewhat surprisingly, necessary and sufficient conditions were found. In this part hydrody-namic results were employed chiefly as a tool to show distributional convergence but subsequently we developed a theory for hydrodynamic limits treating profiles possessing densities that did not admit corresponding equilibria. Finally we derived strong local equilibrium results.

Perturbations of the Voter Model in One-Dimension

We study the scaling limit of a large class of voter model perturbations in one dimension, including stochastic Potts models, to a universal limiting object, the continuum voter model perturbation. The perturbations can be described in terms of bulk and boundary nucleations of new colors (opinions). The discrete and continuum (space) models are obtained from their respective duals, the discrete net with killing and Brownian net with killing. These determine the color genealogy by means of reduced graphs. We focus our attention on models where the voter and boundary nucleation dynamics depend only on the colors of nearest neighbor sites, for which convergence of the discrete net with killing to its continuum analog was proved in an earlier paper by the authors. We use some detailed properties of the Brownian net with killing to prove voter model perturbations convergence to its continuum counterpart. A crucial property of reduced graphs is that even in the continuum, they are finite almost surely. An important issue is how vertices of the continuum reduced graphs are strongly approximated by their discrete analogues.

Supercritical behavior of asymmetric zero-range process with sitewise disorder

We establish necessary and sufficient conditions for weak convergence to the upper invariant measure for asymmetric nearest neighbour zero range processes with non homogeneous jump rates. The class of environments considered is close to that considered by Andjel, Ferrari, Guiol and Landim, while our class of processes is broader. We also give a simpler proof of a result of Ferrari and Sisko with weaker assumptions.

Ergodicity and Percolation for Variants of One-dimensional Voter Models

We study variants of one-dimensional q-color voter models in discrete time. In addition to the usual voter model transitions in which a color is chosen from the left or right neighbor of a site there are two types of noisy transitions. One is bulk nucleation where a new random color is chosen. The other is boundary nucleation where a random color is chosen only if the two neighbors have distinct colors. We prove under a variety of conditions on q and the magnitudes of the two noise parameters that the system is ergodic, i.e., there is convergence to a unique invariant distribution. The methods are percolation-based using the graphical structure of the model which consists of coalescing random walks combined with branching (boundary nucleation) and dying (bulk nucleation).

The Brownian Net with Killing

Motivated by its relevance for the study of perturbations of one-dimensional voter models, including stochastic Potts models at low temperature, we consider diffusively rescaled coalescing random walks with branching and killing. Our main result is convergence to a new continuum process, in which the random space-time paths of the Sun-Swart Brownian net are terminated at a Poisson cloud of killing points. We also prove existence of a percolation transition as the killing rate varies. Key issues for convergence are the relations of the discrete model killing points and their Poisson intensity measure to the continuum counterparts.

Macroscopic stability for nonfinite range kernels

We extend the strong macroscopic stability introduced in Bramson & Mountford (2002) for one-dimensional asymmetric exclusion processes with finite range to a large class of one-dimensional conservative attractive models (including misanthrope process) for which we relax the requirement of finite range kernels. A key motivation is extension of constructive hydrodynamics result of Bahadoran et al. (2002, 2006, 2008) to nonfinite range kernels.
