Classical and quantum dynamics of a perfect fluid scalar-energy dependent metric cosmology

Inspired from the idea of minimally coupling of a real scalar field to geometry, we investigate the classical and quantum models of a flat energy-dependent FRW cosmology coupled to a perfect fluid in the framework of the scalar-rainbow metric gravity. We use the standard Schutz' representation for the perfect fluid and show that under a particular energy-dependent gauge fixing, it may lead to the identification of a time parameter for the corresponding dynamical system. It is shown that, under some circumstances on the minisuperspace prob energy, the classical evolution of the of the universe represents a late time expansion coming from a bounce instead of the big-bang singularity. Then we go forward by showing that this formalism gives rise to a Schrödinger-Wheeler-DeWitt (SWD) equation for the quantum-mechanical description of the model under consideration, the eigenfunctions of which can be used to construct the wave function of the universe. We use the resulting wave function in order to investigate the possibility of the avoidance of classical singularities due to quantum effects by means of the many-worlds and Bohmian interpretation of quantum cosmology.

Early universe thermostatistics in curved momentum spaces

The theories known as doubly special relativity are introduced in order to take into account an observer-independent length scale and the speed of light in the framework of special relativity. These theories can be generally formulated on the de Sitter and also recently proposed anti-de Sitter momentum spaces. In the context of these theories, we study the statistical mechanics and to do this, we consider the natural measure on the corresponding extended phase space. The invariant measure on the space of distinct microstates is obtained by restriction of the natural measure of the extended phase space to the physical phase space through the disintegration theorem. Having the invariant measure, one can study the statistical mechanics in an arbitrary ensemble for any doubly special relativity theory. We use the constructed setup to study the statistical properties of four doubly special relativity models. Applying the results to the case of early universe thermodynamics, we show that one of these models that is defined by the cosmological coordinatization of anti-de Sitter momentum space, implies a finite total number of microstates. Therefore, without attribution to any ensemble density and quite generally, we obtain entropy and internal energy bounds for the early radiation dominated universe. We find that while these results cannot be supported by the standard Friedmann equations, they indeed are in complete agreement with the nonsingular effective Friedmann equations that arise in the context of loop quantum cosmology.

Gravity's rainbow: a bridge between LQC and DSR

The doubly special relativity (DSR) theories are investigated in order to take into account an observer-independent length scale in special relativity framework. It is widely believed that any quantum theory of gravity would reduce to a DSR model at the flat limit when purely gravitational and quantum mechanical effects are negligible. Gravity's rainbow is a simple generalization of DSR theories to incorporate gravity. In this paper, we show that the effective Friedmann equations that are suggested by loop quantum cosmology (LQC) can be exactly reobtained in rainbow cosmology setup. The deformed geometry of LQC then completely fixes the modified dispersion relation and results in unique DSR model. In comparison with standard LQC scenario where only the geometry is modified, both of the geometry and matter parts get modifications in our setup. In this respect, we find that the total number of microstates for the universe is finite which suggests the statistical origin for the energy and entropy density bounds. These results explicitly show that the DSR theories are appropriate candidates for the flat limit of loop quantum gravity.

More on the initial singularity problem in gravity's rainbow cosmology

Using a one-dimensional minisuperspace model with a dimensionless ratio $\frac{E}{E_{Pl}}$, we study the initial singularity problem at the quantum level for the closed rainbow cosmology with a homogeneous, isotropic classical space-time background. We derive the classical Hamiltonian within the framework of Schutz's formalism for an ideal fluid with a cosmological constant. We characterize the behavior of the system at the early stages of the universe evolution through analyzing the relevant shapes for the potential sector of the classical Hamiltonian for various matter sources, each separately modified by two rainbow functions. We show that for both rainbow universe models presented here, there is the possibility of eliminating the initial singularity by forming a potential barrier and static universe for a non-zero value of the scale factor. We investigate their quantum stability and show that for an energy-dependent space-time geometry with energies comparable with the Planck energy, the non-zero value of the scale factor may be stable. It is shown that under certain constraints the rainbow universe model filled with an exotic matter as a domain wall fluid plus a cosmological constant can result in a non-singular harmonic universe. In addition, we demonstrate that the harmonically oscillating universe with respect to the scale factor is sensitive to $\frac{E}{E_{Pl}}$ and that at high energies it may become stable quantum mechanically. Through a Schrödinger-Wheeler-De Witt (SWD) equation obtained from the quantization of the classical Hamiltonian, we also extract the wave packet of the universe with a focus on the early stages of the evolution.

Photon gas thermodynamics in dS and AdS momentum spaces

In this paper, we study thermostatistical properties of a photon gas in the framework of two deformed special relativity models defined by the cosmological coordinatizations of the de Sitter (dS) and anti-de Sitter (AdS) momentum spaces. The dS model is a doubly special relativity theory in which an ultraviolet length scale is invariant under the deformed Lorentz transformations. For the case of AdS model, however, the Lorentz symmetry breaks at the high energy regime. We show that the existence of a maximal momentum in dS momentum space leads to maximal pressure and temperature at the thermodynamical level while maximal internal energy and entropy arise for the case of the AdS momentum space due to the existence of a maximal kinematical energy. These results show the thermodynamical duality of these models much similar to their well-known kinematical duality.

Scalar perturbation potentials in a homogeneous and isotropic Weitzenböck geometry

We describe the fully gauge invariant cosmological perturbation equations in teleparallel gravity by using the gauge covariant version of the Stewart lemma for obtaining the variations in tetrad perturbations. In teleparallel theory, perturbations are the result of small fluctuations in the tetrad field. The tetrad transforms as a vector in both its holonomic and anholonomic indices. As a result, in the gauge invariant formalism, physical degrees of freedom are those combinations of perturbation parameters which remain invariant under a diffeomorphism in the coordinate frame, followed by an arbitrary rotation of the local inertial (Lorentz) frame. We derive these gauge invariant perturbation potentials for scalar perturbations and present the gauge invariant field equations governing their evolution.

Bounds on quantum gravity parameter from the $SU(2)$ NJL effective model of QCD

Existence of a minimal measurable length, as an effective cutoff in the ultraviolet regime, is a common feature of all approaches to the quantum gravity proposal. It is widely believed that this length scale will be of the order of the Planck length $λ=λ_0\,l_{_{\rm Pl}}$, where $λ_0\sim{\mathcal O}(1)$ is a dimensionless parameter that should be fixed only by the experiments. This issue can be taken into account through the deformed momentum spaces with compact topologies. In this paper, we consider minimum length effects on the physical quantities related to three parameters of the $SU(2)$ Nambu-Jona-Lasinio effective model of QCD by means of the deformed measure which is defined on compact momentum space with ${\mathbf S}^3$ topology. This measure is suggested by the doubly special relativity theories, Snyder deformed spaces, and the deformed algebra that is obtained in the light of the stability theory of Lie algebras. Using the current experimental data of the particle physics collaboration, we constraint quantum gravity parameter $λ_0$ and we compare our results with bounds that are arisen from the other experimental setups.

Braneworld Cosmological Perturbations in Teleparallel Gravity

We describe the fully gauge invariant cosmological perturbation equations in braneworld teleparallel gravity. In this theory, perturbations are the result of small fluctuations in the pentad field. We derive the gauge invariant 'potentials' for both geometric and matter variables. Unlike the metric fluctuations in general relativity, pentad perturbations can only contain scalar and vector modes. As a result, in teleparallel gravity, tensor modes including gravitational waves, come from the contortion tensor.

Entropy bound for the photon gas in noncommutative spacetime

Motivated by the doubly special relativity theories and noncommutative spacetime structures, thermodynamical properties of the photon gas in a phase space with compact spatial momentum space is studied. At the high temperature limit, the upper bounds for the internal energy and entropy are obtained which are determined by the size of the compact spatial momentum space. The maximum internal energy turns out to be of the order of the Planck energy and the entropy bound is then determined by the factor $\big(V/l_{_{\rm Pl}}^3\big)$ through the relevant identification of the size of the momentum space with Planck scale. The entropy bound is very similar to the case of Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of black holes and suggests that thermodynamics of black holes may be deduced from a saturated state in the framework of a full quantum gravitational statistical mechanics.

High temperature dimensional reduction in Snyder space

In this paper, we formulate the statistical mechanics in Snyder space that supports the existence of a minimal length scale. We obtain the corresponding invariant Liouville volume which properly determines the number of microstates in the semiclassical regime. The results show that the number of accessible microstates drastically reduces at the high energy regime such that there is only one degree of freedom for a particle. Using the Liouville volume, we obtain the deformed partition function and we then study the thermodynamical properties of the ideal gas in this setup. Invoking the equipartition theorem, we show that $2/3$ of the degrees of freedom freeze at the high temperature regime when the thermal de Broglie wavelength becomes of the order of the Planck length. This reduction of the number of degrees of freedom suggests an effective dimensional reduction of the space from $3$ to $1$ at the Planck scale.

Noncommutative spaces and covariant formulation of statistical mechanics

We study the statistical mechanics of a general Hamiltonian system in the context of symplectic structure of the corresponding phase space. This covariant formalism reveals some interesting correspondences between properties of the phase space and the associated statistical physics. While topology, as a global property, turns out to be related to the total number of microstates, the invariant measure which assigns {\it a priori} probability distribution over the microstates, is determined by the local form of the symplectic structure. As an example of a model for which the phase space has a nontrivial topology, we apply our formulation on the Snyder noncommutative space-time with de Sitter four-momentum space and analyze the results. Finally, in the framework of such a setup, we examine our formalism by studying the thermodynamical properties of a harmonic oscillator system.

On the Stability of Einstein Static Universe in Doubly General Relativity Scenario

By presenting a relation between average energy of the ensemble of probe photons and energy density of the Universe, in the context of {\it gravity's rainbow} or {\it doubly general relativity} scenario, we introduce a rainbow FRW Universe model. By analyzing the fixed points in flat FRW model modified by two well known rainbow functions, we find that the finite time singularity avoidance (i.e. Big-Bang) may still remain as a problem. Then, we follow the "Emergent Universe" scenario in which there is no beginning of time and consequently there is no Big-Bang singularity. Moreover, we study the impact of a high energy quantum gravity modifications related to the gravity's rainbow on the stability conditions of an "Einstein static Universe" (ESU). We find that independent of a particular rainbow function, the positive energy condition dictates a positive spatial curvature for the Universe. In fact, without raising a nonphysical energy condition in the quantum gravity regimes, we can address an agreement between gravity's rainbow scenario and basic assumption of modern version of "Emergent Universe". We show that in the absence and presence of an energy-dependent cosmological constant $Λ(ε)$, a stable Einstein static solution is available versus the homogeneous and linear scalar perturbations under the variety of obtained conditions. Also, we explore the stability of ESU against the vector and tensor perturbations.

Polymer quantization versus the Snyder noncommutative space

We study a noncanonical Hilbert space representation of the polymer quantum mechanics. It is shown that Heisenberg algebra get some modifications in the constructed setup from which a generalized uncertainty principle will naturally come out. Although the extracted physical results are the same as those obtained from the standard canonical representation, the noncanonical representation may be notable in view of its possible connection with the generalized uncertainty theories suggested by string theory. In this regard, by considering an Snyder-deformed Heisenberg algebra we show that since the translation group is not deformed it can be identified with a polymer-modified Heisenberg algebra. In classical level, it is shown the noncanonical Poisson brackets are related to their canonical counterparts by means of a Darboux transformation on the corresponding phase space.

Bouncing scalar field cosmology in the polymeric minisuperspace picture

We study a cosmological setup consisting of a FRW metric as the background geometry with a massless scalar field in the framework of classical polymerization of a given dynamical system. To do this, we first introduce the polymeric representation of the quantum operators. We then extend the corresponding process to reach a transformation which maps any classical variable to its polymeric counterpart. It is shown that such a formalism has also an analogue in terms of the symplectic structure, i.e., instead of applying polymerization to the classical Hamiltonian to arrive its polymeric form, one can use a new set of variables in terms of which Hamiltonian retains its form but now the corresponding symplectic structure gets a new deformed functional form. We show that these two methods are equivalent and by applying of them to the scalar field FRW cosmology see that the resulting scale factor exhibits a bouncing behavior from a contraction phase to an expanding era. Since the replacing of the big bang singularity by a bouncing behavior is one of the most important predictions of the quantum cosmological theories, we may claim that our polymerized classical model brings with itself some signals from quantum theory.

Braneworld setup and embedding in teleparallel gravity

We construct the setup of a five-dimensional braneworld scenario in teleparallel gravity. Both cases of Minkowski and Friedmann-Robertson-Walker branes embedded in Anti de Sitter bulk are studied and the effective 4-D action were studied. 4-dimensional local Lorentz invariance is found to be recovered in both cases. However, due to different junction conditions, the equations governing the 4-D cosmological evolution differ from general relativistic case. Using the results of Ref. [13], we consider a simple inflationary scenario in this setup. The inflation parameters are found to be modified compared to general relativistic case.

Spacetime singularity resolution in Snyder noncommutative space

Inspired by quantum gravity proposal, we construct a deformed phase space which supports the UV and IR cutoffs. We show that the Liouville theorem is satisfied in the deformed phase space which allows us to formulate the thermodynamics of the early Universe in the semiclassical regime. Applying the proposed method to the Snyder noncommutative space, we find a temperature dependent equation of state which opens a new window for natural realization of inflation as a phase transition from quantum gravity regime to the standard radiation dominated era. Also we obtain finite energy and entropy densities for the Universe, when at least the Weak Energy Condition is satisfied. We show that there is a minimum size for the Universe which is proportional to the Planck length and consequently the Big Bang singularity is removed.

Thermostatistics of the Polymeric Ideal Gas

In this paper, we formulate statistical mechanics of the polymerized systems in the semiclassical regime. On the corresponding polymeric symplectic manifold, we set up a noncanonical coordinate system in which all of the polymeric effects are summarized in the density of states. Since we show that the polymeric effects only change the number of microstates of a statistical system, working in this coordinate is quite reasonable from the statistical point of view. The results show that the number of microstates decreases due to existence of an upper bound for the momentum of the test particles in the polymer framework. We obtain a corresponding canonical partition function by means of the deformed density of states. By using the partition function, we study thermodynamics of the ideal gas in the polymer framework and show that our results are in good agreement with those that arise from the full quantum consideration at high temperature, and they coincide with their usual counterpart in the limit of low temperature.

Harmonic oscillator with minimal length, minimal momentum, and maximal momentum uncertainties in SUSYQM framework

We consider a Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) framework which predicts a maximal uncertainty in momentum and minimal uncertainties both in position and momentum. We apply supersymmetric quantum mechanics method and the shape invariance condition to obtain the exact harmonic oscillator eigenvalues in this GUP context. We find the supersymmetric partner Hamiltonians and show that the harmonic oscillator belongs to a hierarchy of Hamiltonians with a shift in momentum representation and different masses and frequencies. We also study the effect of a uniform electric field on the harmonic oscillator energy spectrum in this setup.

Modified dispersion relations in extra dimensions

It has recently been shown that the thermodynamics of a FRW universe can be fully derived using the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP) in extra dimensions as a primary input. There is a phenomenologically close relation between the GUP and Modified Dispersion Relations (MDR). However, the form of the MDR in theories with extra dimensions is as yet not known. The purpose of this letter is to derive the MDR in extra dimensional scenarios. To achieve this goal, we focus our attention on the thermodynamics of a FRW universe within a proposed MDR in an extra dimensional model universe. We then compare our results with the well-known results for the thermodynamics of a FRW universe in an extra dimensional GUP setup. The result shows that the entropy functionals calculated in these two approaches are the same, pointing to a possible conclusion that these approaches are equivalent. In this way, we derive the MDR form in a model universe with extra dimensions that would have interesting implications on the construction of the ultimate quantum gravity scenario.
