A parton branching with transverse momentum dependent splitting functions

Off-shell, transverse-momentum dependent splitting functions can be defined from the high-energy limit of partonic decay amplitudes. Based on these splitting functions, we construct Sudakov form factors and formulate a new parton branching algorithm. We present a first Monte Carlo implementation of the algorithm. We use the numerical results to verify explicitly momentum sum rules for TMD parton distributions.

System of evolution equations for quark and gluon jet quenching with broadening

We propose a system of evolution equations that describe in-medium time-evolution of transverse-momentum-dependent quark and gluon fragmentation functions. Furthermore, we solve this system of equations using Monte Carlo methods. We then quantify the obtained solutions in terms of a few characteristic features, namely the average transverse momentum $\langle |k|\rangle$ and energy contained in a cone, which allow us to see different behaviour of quark and gluon initiated final-state radiation. In particular, the later allows us to conclude that in the gluon-initiated processes there is less energy in a cone, so that the quark jet is more collimated.

Sudakov effects in central-forward dijet production in high energy factorization

We discuss central-forward dijet production at LHC energies within the framework of high energy factorization. In our study, we profit from the recent progress on consistent merging of Sudakov resummation with small-$x$ effects, which allows us to compute two different gluon distributions which depend on longitudinal momentum, transverse momentum and the hard scale of the process: one for the quark channel and one for the gluon channel. The small-$x$ resummation is included by means of the BK equation supplemented with a kinematic constraint and subleading corrections. We test the new gluon distributions against existing CMS data for transverse momentum spectra in forward-central dijet production. We obtain results which are largely consistent with our earlier predictions based on model implementation of Sudakov form factors. In addition, we study dijet azimuthal decorrelations for the forward-central jets, which are known to be sensitive to the modeling of soft radiation.

Trijets in kt-factorisation: matrix elements vs parton shower

We study 3-jet event topologies in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 13 {\rm\ TeV}$ in a configuration, where one jet is present in the central pseudorapidity region ($|η| < 2.0$) while two other jets are in a more forward (same hemisphere) area ($|η| > 2.0$). We compare various parton level predictions using: collinear factorisation, $\KT{}$-factorisation with fully off-shell matrix elements and the hybrid framework. We study the influence of different parton distribution functions, initial state radiation, final state radiation, and hadronisation. We focus on differential cross sections as a function of azimuthal angle difference between the leading dijet system and the third jet, which is found to have excellent sensitivity to the physical effects under study.

Forward di-jet production in p+Pb collisions in the small-x improved TMD factorization framework

We study the production of forward di-jets in proton-lead and proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Such configurations, with both jets produced in the forward direction, impose a dilute-dense asymmetry which allows to probe the gluon density of the lead or proton target at small longitudinal momentum fractions. Even though the jet momenta are always much bigger than the saturation scale of the target, $Q_s$, the transverse momentum imbalance of the di-jet system may be either also much larger than $Q_s$, or of the order $Q_s$, implying that the small-$x$ QCD dynamics involved is either linear or non-linear, respectively. The small-$x$ improved TMD factorization framework deals with both situation in the same formalism. In the latter case, which corresponds to nearly back-to-back jets, we find that saturation effects induce a significant suppression of the forward di-jet azimuthal correlations in proton-lead versus proton-proton collisions.

Heavy ions at the Future Circular Collider

The Future Circular Collider (FCC) Study is aimed at assessing the physics potential and the technical feasibility of a new collider with centre-of-mass energies, in the hadron-hadron collision mode, seven times larger than the nominal LHC energies. Operating such machine with heavy ions is an option that is being considered in the accelerator design studies. It would provide, for example, Pb-Pb and p-Pb collisions at sqrt{s_NN} = 39 and 63 TeV, respectively, per nucleon-nucleon collision, with integrated luminosities above 30 nb^-1 per month for Pb-Pb. This is a report by the working group on heavy-ion physics of the FCC Study. First ideas on the physics opportunities with heavy ions at the FCC are presented, covering the physics of the Quark-Gluon Plasma, of gluon saturation, of photon-induced collisions, as well as connections with other fields of high-energy physics.

Predictions for $p+$Pb Collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5$ TeV: Comparison with Data

Predictions made in Albacete {\it et al} prior to the LHC $p+$Pb run at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5$ TeV are compared to currently available data. Some predictions shown here have been updated by including the same experimental cuts as the data. Some additional predictions are also presented, especially for quarkonia, that were provided to the experiments before the data were made public but were too late for the original publication are also shown here.

Transverse momentum dependent splitting functions at work: quark-to-gluon splitting

Using the recently obtained Pgq splitting function we extend the low x evolution equation for gluons to account for contributions originating from quark-to-gluon splitting. In order to write down a consistent equation we resum virtual corrections coming from the gluon channel and demonstrate that this implies a suitable regularization of the Pgq singularity, corresponding to a soft emitted quark. We also note that the obtained equation is in a straightforward manner generalized to a nonlinear evolution equation which takes into account effects due to the presence of high gluon densities.

Improved TMD factorization for forward dijet production in dilute-dense hadronic collisions

We study forward dijet production in dilute-dense hadronic collisions. By considering the appropriate limits, we show that both the transverse-momentum-dependent (TMD) and the high-energy factorization formulas can be derived from the Color Glass Condensate framework. Respectively, this happens when the transverse momentum imbalance of the dijet system, $k_t$, is of the order of either the saturation scale, or the hard jet momenta, the former being always much smaller than the latter. We propose a new formula for forward dijets that encompasses both situations and is therefore applicable regardless of the magnitude of $k_t$. That involves generalizing the TMD factorization formula for dijet production to the case where the incoming small-$x$ gluon is off-shell. The derivation is performed in two independent ways, using either Feynman diagram techniques, or color-ordered amplitudes.

Proceedings of the Sixth International Workshop on Multiple Partonic Interactions at the Large Hadron Collider

Multiple Partonic Interactions are often crucial for interpreting results obtained at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The quest for a sound understanding of the dynamics behind MPI - particularly at this time when the LHC is due to start its "Run II" operations - has focused the aim of this workshop. MPI@LHC2014 concentrated mainly on the phenomenology of LHC measurements whilst keeping in perspective those results obtained at previous hadron colliders. The workshop has also debated some of the state-of-the-art theoretical considerations and the modeling of MPI in Monte Carlo event generators. The topics debated in the workshop included: Phenomenology of MPI processes and multiparton distributions; Considerations for the description of MPI in Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD); Measuring multiple partonic interactions; Experimental results on inelastic hadronic collisions: underlying event, minimum bias, forward energy flow; Monte Carlo generator development and tuning; Connections with low-x phenomena, diffraction, heavy-ion physics and cosmic rays. In a total of 57 plenary talks the workshop covered a wide range of experimental results, Monte Carlo development and tuning, phenomenology and dedicated measurements of MPI which were produced with data from the LHC's Run I. Recent progress of theoretical understanding of MPI in pp, pA and AA collisions as well as the role of MPI in diffraction and small-x physics were also covered. The workshop forstered close contact between the experimental and theoretical communities. It provided a setting to discuss many of the different aspects of MPI, eventually identifying them as a unifying concept between apparently different lines of research and evaluating their impact on the LHC physics programme.

Resummation effects in forward production of Z0+jet at LHC

We calculate several differential cross sections for Z0 and high-pT jet production in the forward rapidity region at the LHC using the hybrid High Energy Factorization. We test various unintegrated gluon distributions involving subleading BFKL effects (such as kinematic constraint, running strong coupling and DGLAP correction) and compare the results with experimental data obtained by the LHCb experiment. We find that the hard scale dependence of unintegrated gluon distributions, which effectively resums the Sudakov-type logarithms on the top of the resummation of the small x logarithms, is essential to describe the normalized azimuthal decorrelations between the Z0-boson and the jet.

Transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions: status and prospects

We provide a concise overview on transverse momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions, their application to topical issues in high-energy physics phenomenology, and their theoretical connections with QCD resummation, evolution and factorization theorems. We illustrate the use of TMDs via examples of multi-scale problems in hadronic collisions. These include transverse momentum q_T spectra of Higgs and vector bosons for low q_T, and azimuthal correlations in the production of multiple jets associated with heavy bosons at large jet masses. We discuss computational tools for TMDs, and present an application of a new tool, TMDlib, to parton density fits and parameterizations.

Saturation effects in forward-forward dijet production in p+Pb collisions

We study saturation effects in the production of forward dijets in proton-lead collisions at the Large Hadron Collider, using the framework of High Energy Factorization. Such configurations, with both jets produced in the forward direction, probe the gluon density of the lead nucleus at small longitudinal momentum fraction, and also limit the phase space for emissions of additional jets. We find significant suppression of the forward dijet azimuthal correlations in proton-lead versus proton-proton collisions, which we attribute to stronger saturation of the gluon density in the nucleus than in the proton. In order to minimize model dependence of our predictions, we use two different extensions of the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation for evolution of the gluon density with sub-leading corrections.

Small-$x$ dynamics in forward-central dijet decorrelations at the LHC

We provide a description, within the High Energy Factorization formalism, of central-forward dijet decorrelation data measured by the CMS experiment and the predictions for nuclear modification ratio~$R_{pA}$ in p+Pb collisions. In our study, we use the unintegrated gluon density derived from the BFKL and BK equations supplemented with subleading corrections and a hard scale dependence. The latter is introduced at the final step of the calculation by reweighting the Monte Carlo generated events using suitable Sudakov form factors, without changing the total cross section. We achieve a good description of data in the whole region of the azimuthal angle.

A new Monte Carlo study of evolution equation with coherence

We solve CCFM evolution equation numerically using the CohRad program based on Monte Carlo methods. We discuss the effects of removing soft emissions and non-Sudakov form factor by comparing the obtained distributions as functions of accumulated transverse momenta or fractions of proton's longitudinal momenta. We also compare the solution of the CCFM with the DGLAP equation in the gluonic channel. Finally, we analyze the infra-red behaviour of solutions using the so-called diffusion plots.

Helicity amplitudes for high-energy scattering

We present a prescription to calculate manifestly gauge invariant tree-level helicity amplitudes for arbitrary scattering processes with off-shell initial-state gluons within the kinematics of high-energy scattering. We show that it is equivalent to Lipatov's effective action approach, and show its computational potential through numerical calculations for scattering processes with several particles in the final state.

Forward Jets and Energy Flow in Hadronic Collisions

We observe that at the Large Hadron Collider, using forward + central detectors, it becomes possible for the first time to carry out calorimetric measurements of the transverse energy flow due to "minijets" accompanying production of two jets separated by a large rapidity interval. We present parton-shower calculations of energy flow observables in a high-energy factorized Monte Carlo framework, designed to take into account QCD logarithmic corrections both in the large rapidity interval and in the hard transverse momentum. Considering events with a forward and a central jet, we examine the energy flow in the interjet region and in the region away from the jets. We discuss the role of these observables to analyze multiple parton collision effects.

Transverse Energy Flow with Forward and Central Jets at the LHC

At the LHC, using forward + central detectors, it becomes possible for the first time to carry out measurements of the transverse energy flow due to ``minijets" accompanying production of two jets separated by a large rapidity interval. We discuss parton-shower calculations of energy flow observables in a high-energy factorized Monte Carlo framework, and comment on the role of these observables to study high parton multiplicity effects.

Forward-Central Jet Correlations at the Large Hadron Collider

For high-pT forward processes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), QCD logarithmic corrections in the hard transverse momentum and in the large rapidity interval may both be quantitatively significant. The theoretical framework to resum consistently both kinds of logarithmic corrections to higher orders in perturbation theory is based on QCD high-energy factorization. We present numerical Monte Carlo applications of this method to final-state observables associated with production of one forward and one central jet. By computing jet correlations in rapidity and azimuth, we analyze the role of corrections to the parton-showering chain from large-angle gluon radiation, and discuss this in relationship with Monte Carlo results modeling interactions due to multiple parton chains.

Parton showering effects in central heavy-boson hadroproduction

If large-angle multigluon radiation contributes significantly to parton showers associated with heavy boson production at the LHC, appropriate parton branching methods are required for realistic Monte Carlo simulations of final states. We report on a study illustrating such effects in the case of central scalar-boson production. We comment on the possible impact of such studies on the modeling of multi-parton interactions.

Studies of forward jets and production of W, Z bosons at LHC energies

We report on application of QCD in calculations of forward jet and W, Z boson production cross sections at the Large Hadron Collider. In particular in case of jet production we emphasize dynamical features of the matrix elements controlling the resummation of logarithmically enhanced corrections in $\sqrt{s}/E_T$, where $E_T$ is the jet production transverse energy. In case of production of W, Z bosons we focus on angular correlations between produced boson and hardest associated jet.
