Stable limit laws for the parabolic Anderson model between quenched and annealed behaviour

We consider the solution to the parabolic Anderson model with homogeneous initial condition in large time-dependent boxes. We derive stable limit theorems, ranging over all possible scaling parameters, for the rescaled sum over the solution depending on the growth rate of the boxes. Furthermore, we give sufficient conditions for a strong law of large numbers.

Survival Probability of a Random Walk Among a Poisson System of Moving Traps

We review some old and prove some new results on the survival probability of a random walk among a Poisson system of moving traps on Z^d, which can also be interpreted as the solution of a parabolic Anderson model with a random time-dependent potential. We show that the annealed survival probability decays asymptotically as e^{-λ_1\sqrt{t}} for d=1, as e^{-λ_2 t/\log t} for d=2, and as e^{-λ_d t} for d>= 3, where λ_1 and λ_2 can be identified explicitly. In addition, we show that the quenched survival probability decays asymptotically as e^{-\tilde λ_d t}, with \tilde λ_d>0 for all d>= 1. A key ingredient in bounding the annealed survival probability is what is known in the physics literature as the Pascal principle, which asserts that the annealed survival probability is maximized if the random walk stays at a fixed position. A corollary of independent interest is that the expected cardinality of the range of a continuous time symmetric random walk increases under perturbation by a deterministic path.

Quenched Lyapunov exponent for the parabolic Anderson model in a dynamic random environment

We continue our study of the parabolic Anderson equation $\partial u/\partial t = κΔu + γξu$ for the space-time field $u\colon\,\Z^d\times [0,\infty)\to\R$, where $κ\in [0,\infty)$ is the diffusion constant, $Δ$ is the discrete Laplacian, $γ\in (0,\infty)$ is the coupling constant, and $ξ\colon\,\Z^d\times [0,\infty)\to\R$ is a space-time random environment that drives the equation. The solution of this equation describes the evolution of a "reactant" $u$ under the influence of a "catalyst" $ξ$, both living on $\Z^d$. In earlier work we considered three choices for $ξ$: independent simple random walks, the symmetric exclusion process, and the symmetric voter model, all in equilibrium at a given density. We analyzed the \emph{annealed} Lyapunov exponents, i.e., the exponential growth rates of the successive moments of $u$ w.r.t.\ $ξ$, and showed that these exponents display an interesting dependence on the diffusion constant $κ$, with qualitatively different behavior in different dimensions $d$. In the present paper we focus on the \emph{quenched} Lyapunov exponent, i.e., the exponential growth rate of $u$ conditional on $ξ$. We first prove existence and derive some qualitative properties of the quenched Lyapunov exponent for a general $ξ$ that is stationary and ergodic w.r.t.\ translations in $\Z^d$ and satisfies certain noisiness conditions. After that we focus on the three particular choices for $ξ$ mentioned above and derive some more detailed properties. We close by formulating a number of open problems.

Time correlations for the parabolic Anderson model

We derive exact asymptotics of time correlation functions for the parabolic Anderson model with homogeneous initial condition and time-independent tails that decay more slowly than those of a double exponential distribution and have a finite cumulant generating function. We use these results to give precise asymptotics for statistical moments of positive order. Furthermore, we show what the potential peaks that contribute to the intermittency picture look like and how they are distributed in space. We also investigate for how long intermittency peaks remain relevant in terms of ageing properties of the model.
