Electroweak Breaking and Higgs Boson Profile in the Simplest Linear Seesaw Model

We examine the simplest realization of the linear seesaw mechanism within the Standard Model gauge structure. Besides the standard scalar doublet, there are two lepton-number-carrying scalars, a nearly inert SU2 doublet and a singlet. Neutrino masses result from the spontaneous violation of lepton number, implying the existence of a Nambu-Goldstone boson. Such "majoron" would be copiously produced in stars, leading to stringent astrophysical constraints. We study the profile of the Higgs bosons in this model, including their effective couplings to the vector bosons and their invisible decay branching ratios. A consistent electroweak symmetry breaking pattern emerges with a compressed spectrum of scalars in which the "Standard Model" Higgs boson can have a sizeable invisible decay into the invisible majorons.

A flavour physics scenario for the 750 GeV diphoton anomaly

A simple variant of a realistic flavour symmetry scheme for fermion masses and mixings provides a possible interpretation of the diphoton anomaly as an electroweak singlet "flavon". The existence of TeV scale vector-like T-quarks required to provide adequate values for CKM parameters can also naturally account for the diphoton anomaly. Correlations between $V_{ub}$ and $V_{cb}$ with the vector-like T-quark mass can be predicted. Should the diphoton anomaly survive in a future Run, our proposed interpretation can also be tested in upcoming B and LHC studies.

Naturally light neutrinos in $Diracon$ model

We propose a simple model for Dirac neutrinos where the smallness of neutrino mass follows from a parameter $κ$ whose absence enhances the symmetry of the theory. The symmetry breaking is performed by a two-doublet Higgs sector supplemented by an extra gauge singlet scalar, realizing an accidental global $U(1)$ symmetry. Its spontaneous breaking at the few TeV scale leads to a physical Nambu-Goldstone boson - the $Diracon$, denoted $\mathcal{D}$ - which is restricted by astrophysics and induces invisible Higgs decays $h\to \mathcal{D} \mathcal {D}$. The scheme provides a rich, yet very simple reference scenario for symmetry breaking studies at colliders such as the LHC.

Realistic $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ model with a type II Dirac neutrino seesaw mechanism

Here we propose a realistic $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ electroweak gauge model with enlarged Higgs sector. The scheme allows for the natural implementation of a type II seesaw mechanism for Dirac neutrinos, while charged lepton and quark masses are reproduced in a natural way thanks to the presence of new scalars. The new $\mathrm{SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X}$ energy scale characterizing neutrino mass generation could be accessible to the current LHC experiments.

Two-loop Dirac neutrino mass and WIMP dark matter

We propose a "scotogenic" mechanism relating small neutrino mass and cosmological dark matter. Neutrinos are Dirac fermions with masses arising only in two--loop order through the sector responsible for dark matter. Two triality symmetries ensure both dark matter stability and strict lepton number conservation at higher orders. A global spontaneously broken U(1) symmetry leads to a physical $Diracon$ that induces invisible Higgs decays which add up to the Higgs to dark matter mode. This enhances sensitivities to spin-independent WIMP dark matter search below $m_h/2$.

Are the B decay anomalies related to neutrino oscillations?

Neutrino oscillations are solidly established, with a hint of CP violation just emerging. Similarly, there are hints of lepton universality violation in $b \to s$ transitions at the level of $2.6 σ$. By assuming that the unitary transformation between weak and mass charged leptons equals the leptonic mixing matrix measured in neutrino oscillation experiments, we predict several lepton flavor violating (LFV) B meson decays. We are led to the tantalizing possibility that some LFV branching ratios for B decays correlate with the leptonic CP phase $δ$ characterizing neutrino oscillations. Moreover, we also consider implications for $\ell_i \to \ell_j \ell_k \ell_k$ decays.

Neutrino mass and invisible Higgs decays at the LHC

The discovery of the Higgs boson suggests that also neutrinos get their mass from spontaneous symmetry breaking. In the simplest ungauged lepton number scheme, the Standard Model (SM) Higgs has now two other partners: a massive CP-even, as well as the massless Nambu-Goldstone boson, called majoron. For weak-scale breaking of lepton number the invisible decays of the CP- even Higgs bosons to the majoron lead to potentially copious sources of events with large missing energy. Using LHC results we study how the constraints on invisible decays of the Higgs boson restrict the relevant parameters, substantially extending those previously derived from LEP and shedding light on spontaneous lepton number violation.

Predicting charged lepton flavor violation from 3-3-1 gauge symmetry

The simplest realization of the inverse seesaw mechanism in a $SU(3)_C \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$ gauge theory offers striking flavor correlations between rare charged lepton flavor violating decays and the measured neutrino oscillations parameters. The predictions follow from the gauge structure itself without the need for any flavor symmetry. Such tight complementarity between charged lepton flavor violation and oscillations renders the scenario strictly testable.

Relating quarks and leptons with the T7 flavour group

In this letter we present a model for quarks and leptons based on T7 as flavour symmetry, predicting a canonical mass relation between charged leptons and down-type quarks proposed earlier. Neutrino masses are generated through a Type-I seesaw mechanism, with predicted correlations between the atmospheric mixing angle and neutrino masses. Compatibility with oscillation results lead to lower bounds for the lightest neutrino mass as well as for the neutrinoless double beta decay rates, even for normal neutrino mass hierarchy.

Small neutrino masses and gauge coupling unification

The physics responsible for gauge coupling unification may also induce small neutrino masses. We propose a novel gauge mediated radiative seesaw mechanism for calculable neutrino masses. These arise from quantum corrections mediated by new $SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_X$ (3-3-1) gauge bosons and the physics driving gauge coupling unification. Gauge couplings unify for a 3-3-1 scale in the TeV range, making the model directly testable at the LHC.

Inflation and majoron dark matter in the seesaw mechanism

We propose that inflation and dark matter have a common origin, connected to the neutrino mass generation scheme. As a model we consider spontaneous breaking of global lepton number within the seesaw mechanism. We show that it provides an acceptable inflationary scenario consistent with the recent CMB B-mode observation by the BICEP2 experiment. The scheme may also account for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe through leptogenesis for reasonable parameter choices.

Is charged lepton flavour violation a high energy phenomenon?

Searches for rare processes such as mu --> e gamma put stringent limits on lepton flavour violation expected in many Beyond the Standard Model physics scenarios. This usually precludes the observation of flavour violation at high energy colliders such as the LHC. We here discuss a scenario where right-handed neutrinos are produced via a Z' portal but which can only decay via small flavour violating couplings. Consequently, the process rate is unsuppressed by the small couplings and can be visible despite unobservably small mu --> e gamma rates.

Radiative neutrino mass in 331 scheme

We propose a new radiative mechanism for neutrino mass generation based on the 3-3-1 electroweak gauge group. Lepton number is a symmetry of the Yukawa sector but spontaneously broken in the gauge sector. As a result light Majorana masses arise from neutral gauge boson exchange at the one-loop level. In addition to the isosinglet neutrinos which may be produced at the LHC through the extended gauge boson "portals", the model contains new isosinglet quarks which can also lie at the TeV scale and provide a plethora of collider phenomena.

The low-scale approach to neutrino masses

In this short review we revisit the broad landscape of low-scale $SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ models of neutrino mass generation, with view on their phenomenological potential. This includes signatures associated to direct neutrino mass messenger production at the LHC, as well as messenger-induced lepton flavor violation processes. We also briefly comment on the presence of WIMP cold dark matter candidates.

Three-flavour neutrino oscillation update

We review the present status of three-flavour neutrino oscillations, taking into account the latest available neutrino oscillation data presented at the Neutrino 2008 Conference. This includes the data released this summer by the MINOS collaboration, the data of the neutral current counter phase of the SNO solar neutrino experiment, as well as the latest KamLAND and Borexino data. We give the updated determinations of the leading 'solar' and 'atmospheric' oscillation parameters. We find from global data that the mixing angle $θ_{13}$ is consistent with zero within $0.9σ$ and we derive an upper bound of $\sin^2θ_{13} < 0.035 (0.056)$ at 90% CL (3$σ$).
