Complete Surfaces with Ends of Non Positive Curvature

In this paper we extend Efimov's Theorem by proving that any complete surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with Gauss curvature bounded above by a negative constant outside a compact set has finite total curvature, finite area and is properly immersed. Moreover, its ends must be asymptotic to half-lines. We also give a partial solution to Milnor's conjecture by studying isometric immersions in a space form of complete surfaces which satisfy that outside a compact set they have non positive Gauss curvature and the square of a principal curvature function is bounded from below by a positive constant.

Geometric barriers for the existence of hypersurfaces with prescribed curvatures in $M^n\times R$

We show the existence of a deformation process of hypersurfaces from a product space $M_1\times R$ into another product space $M_2\times R$ such that the relation of the principal curvatures of the deformed hypersurfaces can be controlled in terms of the sectional curvatures or Ricci curvatures of $M_1$ and $M_2$. In this way, we obtain barriers which are used for proving existence or non existence of hypersurfaces with prescribed curvatures in a general product space $M\times R$.

Isolated singularities of graphs in warped products and Monge-Ampère equations

We study graphs of positive extrinsic curvature with a non-removable isolated singularity in 3-dimensional warped product spaces, and describe their behavior at the singularity in several natural situations. We use Monge-Ampère equations to give a classification of the surfaces in 3-dimensional space forms which are embedded around a non-removable isolated singularity and have a prescribed, real analytic, positive extrinsic curvature function at every point. Specifically, we prove that this space is in one-to-one correspondence with the space of regular, analytic, strictly convex Jordan curves in the 2-dimensional sphere $\mathbb{S^2}$.

A classification of isolated singularities of elliptic Monge-Ampère equations in dimension two

Let $\mathcal{M}_1$ denote the space of solutions $z(x,y)$ to an elliptic, real analytic Monge-Ampère equation ${\rm det} (D^2 z)=φ(x,y,z,Dz)>0$ whose graphs have a non-removable isolated singularity at the origin. We prove that $\mathcal{M}_1$ is in one-to-one correspondence with $\mathcal{M}_2\times Z_2$, where $\mathcal{M}_2$ is a suitable subset of the class of regular, real analytic strictly convex Jordan curves in $R^2$. We also describe the asymptotic behavior of solutions of the Monge-Ampère equation in the $C^k$-smooth case, and a general existence theorem for isolated singularities of analytic solutions of the more general equation ${\rm det} (D^2 z +\mathcal{A}(x,y,z,Dz))=φ(x,y,z,Dz)>0$.
