Asymptotic and optimal Liouville properties for Wolff type integral systems

This article examines the properties of positive solutions to fully nonlinear systems of integral equations involving Hardy and Wolff potentials. The first part of the paper establishes an optimal existence result and a Liouville type theorem for the integral systems. Then, the second part examines the decay rates of positive bound states at infinity. In particular, a complete characterization of the asymptotic properties of bounded and decaying solutions is given by showing that such solutions vanish at infinity with two principle rates: the slow decay rates and the fast decay rates. In fact, the two rates can be fully distinguished by an integrability criterion. As an application, the results are shown to carry over to certain systems of quasilinear equations.

Sharp existence criteria for positive solutions of Hardy-Sobolev type systems

This paper examines systems of poly-harmonic equations of the Hardy--Sobolev type and the closely related weighted systems of integral equations involving Riesz potentials. Namely, it is shown that the two systems are equivalent under some appropriate conditions. Then a sharp criterion for the existence and non-existence of positive solutions is determined for both differential and integral versions of a Hardy--Sobolev type system with variable coefficients. In the constant coefficient case, Liouville type theorems for positive radial solutions are also established using radial decay estimates and Pohozaev type identities in integral form.

A characterization of fast decaying solutions for quasilinear and Wolff type systems with singular coefficients

This paper examines the decay properties of positive solutions for a family of fully nonlinear systems of integral equations containing Wolf potentials and Hardy weights. This class of systems includes examples which are closely related to the Euler-Lagrange equations for several classical inequalities such as the Hardy-Sobolev and Hardy-Littlewood-Sobolev inequalities. In particular, a complete characterization of the fast decaying ground states in terms of their integrability is provided in that bounded and fast decaying solutions are shown to be equivalent to the integrable solutions. In generating this characterization, additional properties for the integrable solutions, such as their boundedness and optimal integrability, are also established. Furthermore, analogous decay properties for systems of quasilinear equations of the weighted Lane-Emden type are also obtained.

Qualitative properties of solutions for an integral system related to the Hardy-Sobolev inequality

This article carries out a qualitative analysis on a system of integral equations of the Hardy--Sobolev type. Namely, results concerning Liouville type properties and the fast and slow decay rates of positive solutions for the system are established. For a bounded and decaying positive solution, it is shown that it either decays with the slow rates or the fast rates depending on its integrability. Particularly, a criterion for distinguishing integrable solutions from other bounded and decaying solutions in terms of their asymptotic behavior is provided. Moreover, related results on the optimal integrability, boundedness, radial symmetry and monotonicity of positive integrable solutions are also established. As a result of the equivalence between the integral system and a system of poly-harmonic equations under appropriate conditions, the results translate over to the corresponding poly-harmonic system. Hence, several classical results on semilinear elliptic systems are recovered and further generalized.

Shooting with degree theory: Analysis of some weighted poly-harmonic systems

In this paper, the author establishes the existence of positive entire solutions to a general class of semilinear poly-harmonic systems, which includes equations and systems of the weighted Hardy--Littlewood--Sobolev type. The novel method used implements the classical shooting method enhanced by topological degree theory. The key steps of the method are to first construct a target map which aims the shooting method and the non-degeneracy conditions guarantee the continuity of this map. With the continuity of the target map, a topological argument is used to show the existence of zeros of the target map. The existence of zeros of the map along with a non-existence theorem for the corresponding Navier boundary value problem imply the existence of positive solutions for the class of poly-harmonic systems.

A regularization for the transport equations using spatial-averaging

This paper examines an averaging technique applied to the transport equations as an alternative to vanishing viscosity. Such techniques have been shown to be valid shock-regularizations of the Burgers equation and the Euler equations, but has yet to be applied to the similar transport equations. However, for this system, the classical notion of weak solutions is not always sufficient thus a more general notion of a distribution solution containing Dirac-delta functions must be introduced. Moreover, the distribution solution to the Riemann problem is known to be the weak-$*$ limit of the viscous perturbed transport equations as viscosity vanishes. In comparison to the classical method of vanishing viscosity, the Riemann problem is examined for the averaged transport equation and it is shown that the same delta-shock distribution solution is captured as filtering vanishes. Both mathematical and physical motivation are provided for the averaging techniques considered including an existence and uniqueness result of solutions within the class of smooth initial conditions.
