Decomposition of a complete bipartite multigraph into arbitrary cycle sizes

In a graph GG, let μG(xy)μ_G(xy) denote the number of edges between xx and yy in GG. Let λKv,uλK_{v,u} be the graph (V∪U,E)(V\cup U,E) with ∣V∣=v|V|=v, ∣U∣=u|U|=u, and \[ μ_G(xy)=\begin{cases} λ&\mbox{if $x\in U$ and $y\in V$ or if $x\in V$ and $y\in U$}\\ 0 &\mbox{otherwise.} \\ \end{cases} \] Let MM be a sequence of non-negative integers m1,m2,…,mnm_1,m_2,\ldots,m_n. An (M)(M)-cycle decomposition of a graph GG is a partition of the edge set into cycles of lengths m1,m2,…,mnm_1,m_2,\ldots,m_n. In this paper, we establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of an (M)(M)-cycle decomposition of λKv,uλK_{v,u}.

Packing paths in a (λ+μ)Kv+u−λKv(λ+μ)K_{v+u}-λK_v

Following standard terminology, λKvλK_v is a multigraph on vv vertices such that λλ edges join each pair of vertices. Let (λ+μ)Kv+u−λKv(λ+μ)K_{v+u}-λK_v be the graph (V∪U,E)(V\cup U,E) with ∣V∣=v|V|=v, ∣U∣=u|U|=u, and (λ+μ)−λ=μ(λ+μ)-λ=μ edges between the vertices xx and yy if xx and yy both lie in VV and λ+μλ+μ edges between xx and yy otherwise. The main result of this paper establishes necessary and sufficient conditions for an mm-path decomposition of (λ+μ)Kv+u−λKv(λ+μ)K_{v+u}-λK_v.
