Boundary regularity of weakly coupled vectorial almost-minimizers for Alt-Caffarelli functionals with non-standard growth

For a fixed constant $λ> 0$ and a bounded Lipschitz domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $n \geq 2$, we establish that almost-minimizers (functions satisfying a sort of variational inequality) of the Alt-Caffarelli type functional \[ \mathcal{J}_G({\bf v};Ω) \coloneqq \int_Ω\left(\sum_{i=1}^mG\big(|\nabla v_i(x)|\big) + λχ_{\{|{\bf v}|>0\}}(x)\right) dx , \] where ${\bf v} = (v_1, \dots, v_m)$ and $m \in \mathbb{N}$, exhibit optimal (up-to-the boundary) Lipschitz continuity, where $G$ is a $\mathcal{N}$-function satisfying specific growth conditions. Our work extends the recent regularity results for weakly coupled vectorial almost-minimizers for the $p$-Laplacian addressed in \cite{BFS24}, thereby providing new insights and approaches applicable to a wide class of non-linear one or two-phase free boundary problems with non-standard growth. Our findings remain novel and significant even in the scalar setting and for minimizers of the type considered by Martínez--Wolanski \cite{MW08} and da Silva \textit{et al.} \cite{daSSV2024}.

Fractional elliptic problems with nonlinear gradient sources and measures

In this manuscript we deal with existence/uniqueness and regularity issues of suitable weak solutions to nonlocal problems driven by fractional Laplace type operators. Different from previous researches, in our approach we consider gradient non-linearity sources with subcritical growth, as well as appropriated measures as sources and boundary datum. We provide an in-depth discussion on the notions of solutions involved together with existence/uniqueness results in different regimes and for different boundary value problems. Finally, this work extends previous ones by dealing with more general nonlocal operators, source terms and boundary data.

Sharp regularity for degenerate obstacle type problems: a geometric approach

We prove sharp regularity estimates for solutions of obstacle type problems driven by a class of degenerate fully nonlinear operators; more specifically, we consider viscosity solutions of \[ |D u|^γF(x, D^2u) = f(x)χ_{\{u>ϕ\}} \textrm{ in } B_1 \] with $γ>0$, $ϕ\in C^{1, α}(B_1)$ for some $α\in(0,1]$ and $f\in L^\infty(B_1)$ constrained to satisfy \[ u\geq ϕ\textrm{ in } B_1 \] and prove that they are $C^{1,β}(B_{1/2})$ (and in particular along free boundary points) where $β=\min\left\{α, \frac{1}{γ+1}\right\}$. Moreover, we achieve such a feature by using a recently developed geometric approach which is a novelty for these kind of free boundary problems. Further, under a natural non-degeneracy assumption on the obstacle, we prove that the free boundary $\partial\{u>ϕ\}$ has zero Lebesgue measure. Our results are new even for seemingly simple model as follows \[ |Du|^γΔu=χ_{\{u>ϕ\}} \quad \text{with}\quad γ>0. \]

The obstacle problem for a class of degenerate fully nonlinear operators

We study the obstacle problem for fully nonlinear elliptic operators with an anisotropic degeneracy on the gradient: \[ \min \left\{f-|Du|^γF(D^2u),u-ϕ\right\} = 0 \quad\textrm{ in }\quad Ω. \] We obtain existence of solutions and prove sharp regularity estimates along the free boundary points, namely $\partial\{u>ϕ\} \cap Ω$. In particular, for the homogeneous case ($f\equiv0$) we get that solutions are $C^{1,1}$ at free boundary points, in the sense that they detach from the obstacle in a quadratic fashion, thus beating the optimal regularity allowed for such degenerate operators. We also present further features of the solutions and partial results regarding the free boundary. These are the first results for obstacle problems driven by degenerate type operators in non-divergence form and they are a novelty even for the simpler scenario given by an operator of the form $\mathcal{G}[u] = |Du|^γΔu$.

Sharp regularity estimates for second order fully nonlinear parabolic equations

We prove sharp regularity estimates for viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear parabolic equations of the form \begin{equation}\label{Meq}\tag{Eq} u_t- F(D^2u, Du, X, t) = f(X,t) \quad \mbox{in} \quad Q_1, \end{equation} where $F$ is elliptic with respect to the Hessian argument and $f \in L^{p,q}(Q_1)$. The quantity $κ(n, p, q):=\frac{n}{p}+\frac{2}{q}$ determines to which regularity regime a solution of \eqref{Meq} belongs. We prove that when $1< κ(n,p,q) < 2-ε_F$, solutions are parabolic-Hölder continuous for a sharp, quantitative exponent $0< α(n,p,q) < 1$. Precisely at the critical borderline case, $κ(n,p,q)= 1$, we obtain sharp Log-Lipschitz regularity estimates. When $0< κ(n,p,q) <1$, solutions are locally of class $C^{1+ σ, \frac{1+ σ}{2}}$ and in the limiting case $κ(n,p,q) = 0$, we show $C^{1, \text{Log-Lip}}$ regularity estimates provided $F$ has "better" \textit{a priori} estimates.

Regularity up to the boundary for singularly perturbed fully nonlinear elliptic equations

In this article we are interested in studying regularity up to the boundary for one-phase singularly perturbed fully nonlinear elliptic problems, associated to high energy activation potentials, namely $$ F(X, \nabla u^{\varepsilon}, D^2 u^{\varepsilon}) = ζ_{\varepsilon}(u^{\varepsilon}) \quad \mbox{in} \quad Ω\subset \R^n $$ where $ζ_{\varepsilon}$ behaves asymptotically as the Dirac measure $δ_{0}$ as $\varepsilon$ goes to zero. We shall establish global gradient bounds independent of the parameter $\varepsilon$.
