Pogorelov type estimates for a class of Hessian quotient equations in Lorentz-Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_{1}$

Let $Ω$ be a bounded domain (with smooth boundary) on the hyperbolic plane $\mathscr{H}^{n}(1)$, of center at origin and radius $1$, in the $(n+1)$-dimensional Lorentz-Minkowski space $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}_{1}$. In this paper, by using a priori estimates, we can establish Pogorelov type estimates of $k$-convex solutions to a class of Hessian quotient equations defined over $Ω\subset\mathscr{H}^{n}(1)$ and with the vanishing Dirichlet boundary condition.

A stability result for translating space-like graphs in Lorentz manifolds

In this paper, we investigate space-like graphs defined over a domain $Ω\subset M^{n}$ in the Lorentz manifold $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$ with the metric $-ds^{2}+σ$, where $M^{n}$ is a complete Riemannian $n$-manifold with the metric $σ$, $Ω$ has piecewise smooth boundary, and $\mathbb{R}$ denotes the Euclidean $1$-space. We can prove an interesting stability result for translating space-like graphs in $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$ under a conformal transformation.

Translating solutions for a class of quasilinear parabolic initial boundary value problems in Lorentz-Minkowski plane $\mathbb{R}^{2}_{1}$

In this paper, we investigate the evolution of spacelike curves in Lorentz-Minkowski plane $\mathbb{R}^{2}_{1}$ along prescribed geometric flows (including the classical curve shortening flow or mean curvature flow as a special case), which correspond to a class of quasilinear parabolic initial boundary value problems, and can prove that this flow exists for all time. Moreover, we can also show that the evolving spacelike curves converge to a spacelike straight line or a spacelike Grim Reaper curve as time tends to infinity.

Existence and uniqueness of solutions to the constant mean curvature equation with nonzero Neumann boundary data in product manifold $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$

In this paper, we can prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions to the constant mean curvature (CMC for short) equation with nonzero Neumann boundary data in product manifold $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$, where $M^{n}$ is an $n$-dimensional ($n\geq2$) complete Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature, and $\mathbb{R}$ is the Euclidean $1$-space. Equivalently, this conclusion gives the existence of CMC graphic hypersurfaces defined over a compact strictly convex domain $Ω\subset M^{n}$ and having arbitrary contact angle.

Translating solutions of the nonparametric mean curvature flow with nonzero Neumann boundary data in product manifold $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$

In this paper, we can prove the existence of translating solutions to the nonparametric mean curvature flow with nonzero Neumann boundary data in a prescribed product manifold $M^{n}\times\mathbb{R}$, where $M^{n}$ is an $n$-dimensional ($n\geq2$) complete Riemannian manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature, and $\mathbb{R}$ is the Euclidean $1$-space.

Monge-Ampère type equations with Neumann boundary conditions on Riemannian manifolds

In this paper, we consider the global regularity for Monge-Ampère type equations with the Neumann boundary conditions on Riemannian manifolds. It is known that the classical solvability of the Neumann boundary value problem is obtained under some necessary assumptions. Our main result extends the main theorem from the case of Euclidean space $R^n$ in [11] to Riemannian manifolds.

The first eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian on time dependent Riemannian metrics

Let $(M,g)$ be an $n$-dimensional compact Riemannian manifold ($n>1$) whose metric $g(t)$ evolves by the generalized abstract geometric flow. This paper discusses the evolution, monotonicity and differentiability for the first eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian on $(M,g(t))$ with respect to time evolution. We prove that the first nonzero $p$-eigenvalue is monotone nondecreasing along the flow under certain geometric condition and that the first eigenvalue is differentiable almost everywhere. When $p=2$, we recover the corresponding results for the usual Laplace-Beltrami operator. Our results provide a unified approach to the study of $p$-eigenvalue under various geometric flows

A new way to Dirichlet problems for minimal surface systems in arbitrary dimensions and codimensions

In this paper, by considering a special case of the spacelike mean curvature flow investigated by Li and Salavessa [6], we get a condition for the existence of smooth solutions of the Dirichlet problem for the minimal surface equation in arbitrary codimension. We also show that our condition is sharper than Wang's in [13, Theorem 1.1] provided the hyperbolic angle $θ$ of the initial spacelike submanifold $M_{0}$ satisfies $\max_{M_{0}}{\rm cosh}θ>\sqrt{2}$.

A probabilistic method for gradient estimates of some geometric flows

In general, gradient estimates are very important and necessary for deriving convergence results in different geometric flows, and most of them are obtained by analytic methods. In this paper, we will apply a stochastic approach to systematically give gradient estimates for some important geometric quantities under the Ricci flow, the mean curvature flow, the forced mean curvature flow and the Yamabe flow respectively. Our conclusion gives another example that probabilistic tools can be used to simplify proofs for some problems in geometric analysis.

Extremal Domains on Hadamard manifolds

We investigate the geometry and topology of extremal domains in a manifold with negative sectional curvature. An extremal domain is a domain that supports a positive solution to an overdetermined elliptic problem (OEP for short). We consider two types of OEPs. First, we study narrow properties of such domains in a Hadamard manifold and characterize the boundary at infinity. We give an upper bound for the Hausdorff dimension of its boundary at infinity and how the domain behaves at infinity. This shows interesting relations with the Singular Yamabe Problem. Later, we focus on extremal domains in the Hyperbolic Space $\mathbb H ^n$. Symmetry and boundedness properties will be shown. In certain sense, we extend Levitt-Rosenberg's Theorem \cite{LR} to OEPs, which suggests a strong relation with constant mean curvature hypersurfaces in $\mathbb H ^n$. In particular, we are able to prove the Berestycki-Caffarelli-Nirenberg Conjecture under certain assumptions either on the boundary at infinity of the extremal domain or on the OEP itself. Also a height estimate for solutions on extremal domains in a Hyperbolic Space will be given.

The Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality on metric measure spaces

In this paper, we prove that if a metric measure space satisfies the volume doubling condition and the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality with the same exponent $n$ $(n\geq 2)$, then it has exactly the $n$-dimensional volume growth. Besides, two interesting applications have also been given. The one is that we show that if a complete $n$-dimensional Finsler manifold of nonnegative $n$-Ricci curvature satisfies the Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality with the sharp constant, then its flag curvature is identically zero. The other one is that we give an alternative proof to Mao's main result in [23] for smooth metric measure spaces with nonnegative weighted Ricci curvature.

A class of rotationally symmetric quantum layers of dimension 4

Under several geometric conditions imposed below, the existence of the discrete spectrum below the essential spectrum is shown for the Dirichlet Laplacian on the quantum layer built over a spherically symmetric hypersurface with a pole embedded in the Euclidean space R4. At the end of this paper, we also show the advantage and independence of our main result comparing with those existent results for higher dimensional quantum layers or quantum tubes.

Eigenvalue inequalities for the p-Laplacian on a Riemannian manifold and estimates for the heat kernel

In this paper, we successfully generalize the eigenvalue comparison theorem for the Dirichlet $p$-Laplacian ($1<p<\infty$) obtained by Matei [A.-M. Matei, First eigenvalue for the $p$-Laplace operator, Nonlinear Anal. TMA 39 (8) (2000) 1051--1068] and Takeuchi [H. Takeuchi, On the first eigenvalue of the $p$-Laplacian in a Riemannian manifold, Tokyo J. Math. 21 (1998) 135--140], respectively. Moreover, we use this generalized eigenvalue comparison theorem to get estimates for the first eigenvalue of the Dirichlet $p$-Laplacian of geodesic balls on complete Riemannian manifolds with radial Ricci curvature bounded from below w.r.t. some point. In the rest of this paper, we derive an upper and lower bound for the heat kernel of geodesic balls of complete manifolds with specified curvature constraints, which can supply new ways to prove the most part of two generalized eigenvalue comparison results given by Freitas, Mao and Salavessa in [P. Freitas, J. Mao and I. Salavessa, Spherical symmetrization and the first eigenvalue of geodesic disks on manifolds, submitted (2012)].

Monotonicity of the first eigenvalue of the Laplace and the p-Laplace operators under a forced mean curvature flow

In this paper, we would like to give an answer to \textbf{Problem 1} below issued firstly in [J. Mao, Eigenvalue estimation and some results on finite topological type, Ph.D. thesis, IST-UTL, 2013]. In fact, by imposing some conditions on the mean curvature of the initial hypersurface and the coefficient function of the forcing term of a forced mean curvature flow considered here, we can obtain that the first eigenvalues of the Laplace and the $p$-Laplace operators are monotonic under this flow. Surprisingly, during this process, we get an interesting byproduct, that is, without any complicated constraint, we can give lower bounds for the first nonzero closed eigenvalue of the Laplacian provided additionally the second fundamental form of the initial hypersurface satisfies a pinching condition.

Forced hyperbolic mean curvature flow

In this paper, we investigate two hyperbolic flows obtained by adding forcing terms in direction of the position vector to the hyperbolic mean curvature flows in \cite{klw,hdl}. For the first hyperbolic flow, as in \cite{klw}, by using support function, we reduce it to a hyperbolic Monge-Amp$\grave{\rm{e}}$re equation successfully, leading to the short-time existence of the flow by the standard theory of hyperbolic partial differential equation. If the initial velocity is non-negative and the coefficient function of the forcing term is non-positive, we also show that there exists a class of initial velocities such that the solution of the flow exists only on a finite time interval $[0,T_{max})$, and the solution converges to a point or shocks and other propagating discontinuities are generated when $t\rightarrow{T_{max}}$. These generalize the corresponding results in \cite{klw}. For the second hyperbolic flow, as in \cite{hdl}, we can prove the system of partial differential equations related to the flow is strictly hyperbolic, which leads to the short-time existence of the smooth solution of the flow, and also the uniqueness. We also derive nonlinear wave equations satisfied by some intrinsic geometric quantities of the evolving hypersurface under this hyperbolic flow. These generalize the corresponding results in \cite{hdl}.
