Photometric properties and stellar parameters of the rapidly rotating magnetic early-B star HD 345439

We first present the multicolor photometry results of the rapidly rotating magnetic star HD 345439 using the Nanshan One-meter Wide-field Telescope. From the photometric observations, we derive a rotational period of 0.7699\pm0.0014 day. The light curves of HD 345439 are dominated by the double asymmetric S-wave feature that arises from the magnetic clouds. Pulsating behaviors are not observed in Sector 41 of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite. No evidence is found of the occurrence of centrifugal breakout events neither in the residual flux nor in the systematic variations at the extremum of the light curve. Based on the hypothesis of the Rigidly Rotating Magnetosphere model, we restrict the magnetic obliquity angle {$β$} and the rotational inclination angle $i$ so that they satisfy the approximate relation {$β+ i \approx 105^{\circ}$}. The colour excess, extinction, and luminosity are determined to be $E_{(B-V)}=0.745\pm0.016\,$mag, $A_{V}=2.31\pm0.05\,$mag, and $\rm log\,(L/L_{\odot})=3.82\pm0.1 $dex, respectively. Furthermore, we derive the effective temperature as $T$$\rm _{eff}=22\pm1 $kK and the surface gravity as log$g=4.00\pm0.22$. The mass$ M=7.24_{-1.24}^{+1.75}\rm M_{\odot}$, radius$ R=4.44_{-1.93}^{+2.68}\rm R_{\odot}$, and age$\rm τ_{age}=23.62\,_{-21.97}^{+4.24} $Myr are estimated from the Hertzsprung--Russell Diagram

Site-testing at Muztagh-ata site I: Ground Meteorology and Sky Brightness

Site-testing is crucial for achieving the goal of scientific research and analysis of meteorological and optical observing conditions is one of the basic tasks of it. As one of three potential sites to host 12-meter Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT), Muztagh-ata site which is located on the Pamirs Plateau in west China's Xinjiang began its site-testing task in the spring of 2017. In this paper, we firstly start with an introduction to the site and then present a statistical analysis of the ground-level meteorological properties such as air temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, recorded by automatic weather station with standard meteorological sensors for two-year long. We also show the monitoring results of sky brightness during this period.

Site-testing at Muztagh-ata site II: Seeing statistics

In this article, we present a detailed analysis of the statistical properties of seeing for the Muztagh-ata site which is the candidate site for hosting future Chinese Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT) project. The measurement was obtained with Differential Image Motion Monitor (DIMM) from April 2017 to November 2018 at different heights during different periods. The median seeing at 11 meters and 6 meters are very close but different significantly from that on the ground. We mainly analyzed the seeing at 11 meters monthly and hourly, having found that the best season for observing was from late autumn to early winter and seeing tended to improve during the night only in autumn. The analysis of the dependence on temperature inversion, wind speed, direction also was made and the best meteorological conditions for seeing is given.

Using pulsar timing arrays and the quantum normalization condition to constrain relic gravitational waves

In the non-standard model of relic gravitational waves (RGWs) generated in the early universe, the theoretical spectrum of is mainly described by an amplitude $r$ and a spectral index $β$, the latter usually being determined by the slope of the inflation potential. Pulsar timing arrays (PTAs) data have imposed constraints on the amplitude of strain spectrum for a power-law form as a phenomenological model. Applying these constraints to a generic, theoretical spectrum with $r$ and $β$ as independent parameters, we convert the PTAs constraint into an upper bound on the index $β$, which turns out to be less stringent than those upper bounds from BBN, CMB, and LIGO/VIRGO, respectively. Moreover, it is found that PTAs constrain the non-standard RGWs more stringent than the standard RGWs. If the condition of the quantum normalization is imposed upon a theoretical spectrum of RGWs, $r$ and $β$ become related. With this condition, a minimum requirement of the horizon size during inflation is greater than the Planck length results in an upper bound on $β$, which is comparable in magnitude to that by PTAs. When both PTAs and the quantum normalization are applied to a theoretical spectrum of RGWs, constraints can be obtained for other cosmic processes of the early universe, such as the reheating, a process less understood observationally so far. The resulting constraint is consistent with the slow-roll, massive scalar inflation model. The future SKA will be able to constrain RGWs further and might even detect RGWs, rendering an important probe to the very early universe.
