Charge Stripper Effects on Beam Optics in 180-degree Bending Section of RISP Linac

The RAON, a superconducting linear accelerator for RISP (Rare Isotope Science Project), will use a charge stripper in order to increase the charge states of the heavy ions for effective acceleration in the higher energy part of the linac. The charge stripper affects the beam qualities by scattering when the heavy ions go through the charge stripper. Moreover we have to select and accelerate proper charge states between 77+ and 81+ for uranium beam case in order to satisfy the beam power requirement at an IF (Inflight Fragmentation) target. This work focuses on the beam optics affected by the charge stripper in the 180-dgree bending section.

Start-to-end simulation with rare isotope beam for post accelerator of the RAON accelerator

The RAON accelerator of the Rare Isotope Science Project (RISP) has been developed to create and accelerate various kinds of stable heavy ion beams and rare isotope beams for a wide range of the science applications. In the RAON accelerator, the rare isotope beams generated by the Isotope Separation On-Line (ISOL) system will be transported through the post accelerator, namely, from the post Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) system and the post Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) to the superconducting linac (SCL3). The accelerated beams will be put to use in the low energy experimental hall or accelerated again by the superconducting linac (SCL2) in order to be used in the high energy experimental hall. In this paper, we will describe the results of the start-to-end simulations with the rare isotope beams generated by the ISOL system in the post accelerator of the RAON accelerator. In addition, the error analysis and correction at the superconducting linac SCL3 will be presented.

Beam dynamics at the main LEBT of RAON accelerator

The high-intensity rare-isotope accelerator (RAON) of the Rare Isotope Science Project (RISP) in Daejeon, Korea, has been designed to accelerate multiple-charge-state beams. The ion beams, which are generated by Electron Cyclotron Resonance Ion Source (ECR-IS), will be transported through the main Low Energy Beam Transport (LEBT) system to the Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ). While passing the beams through LEBT, we should keep the transverse beam size and longitudinal emittance small. Furthermore, the matching of required twiss parameter at the RFQ entrance will be performed by using electro-static quadrupoles at the main LEBT matching section which is from the multi-harmonic buncher (MHB) to the entrance of RFQ. We will briefly review the new aspects of main LEBT lattice and the beam matching at the main LEBT matching section will be presented. In addition, the effects of various errors on the beam orbit and the correction of distorted orbit will be discussed.

Measurement Error Effects of Beam Parameters Determined by Beam Profiles

A conventional method to determine beam parameters is using the profile measurements and converting them into the values of twiss parameters and beam emittance at a specified position. The beam information can be used to improve transverse beam matching between two different beam lines or accelerating structures. This work is related with the measurement error effects of the beam parameters and the optimal number of profile monitors in a section between MEBT (medium energy beam transport) and QWR (quarter wave resonator) of RAON linear accelerator.

Transverse Beam Dynamics including Aberration Effects in the Thermal Wave Model using a Functional Method

We studied the transverse beam dynamics including aberration effects of sextupole and octupole perturbations in a thermal wave model. A functional integration method was used to calculate the first-order perturbation effects. We found that the model successfully explains a PARMILA simulation results for proton beams without space-charge effects in a FODO lattice.

Bremsstrahlung Radiation At a Vacuum Bubble Wall

When charged particles collide with a vacuum bubble, they can radiate strong electromagnetic waves due to rapid deceleration. Owing to the energy loss of the particles by this bremsstrahlung radiation, there is a non-negligible damping pressure acting on the bubble wall even when thermal equilibrium is maintained. In the non-relativistic region, this pressure is proportional to the velocity of the wall and could have influenced the bubble dynamics in the early universe.

CP Violating B Decays with R-parity Violation

We study CP violating B decays in the minimal supersymmetric standard model with R-parity violation. We estimate how much R-parity violation modifies the SM predictions for CP asymmetries in B decays within the present bounds. The effects of R-parity- and lepton-number-violating couplings on the ratio of the decay amplitude due to R-parity violation to that of the SM can differ by one or two orders of magnitudes depending on the models of the left-handed quark mixing. It is possible to disentangle the R-parity violating effects from those of the SM and R-parity- conserving supersymmetric models within the present bounds comparing different CP violating decay amplitudes. We also study the effects of R-parity- and baryon-number-violating couplings and find that the effects could be large.

Constraints on the R-parity- and Lepton-Flavor-Violating Couplings from B0 Decats to Two Charged Leptons

We derive the upper bounds on certain products of R-parity- and lepton-flavor-violating couplings from the decays of the neutral $B$ meson into two charged leptons. These modes of $B^0$ decays can constrain the product combinations of the couplings with one or more heavy generation indices. We find that most of these bounds are stronger than the previous ones.
