Protection of quantum evolutions under parity-time symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonians by dynamical decoupling

Parity-time (PT) symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonians bring about many novel features and interesting applications such as quantum gates faster than those in Hermitian systems, and topological state transfer. The performance of evolutions under $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric Hamiltonians is degraded by the inevitable noise and errors due to system-environment interaction and experimental imperfections. In contrast to Hermitian Hamiltonians, the fluctuations in dissipative beams that are utilized to generate non-Hermitian contributions in the PT-symmetric Hamiltonians cause additional errors. Here we achieve the protection of PT-symmetric Hamiltonians against noise acting along the qubit's quantization axis by combining quantum evolutions with dynamical decoupling sequences. We demonstrate the performance of our method by numerical simulations. Realistic noise sources and parameters are chosen including: constant detuning error, time-varying detuning noise and dissipative-beam noise. The fidelities of the protected evolutions are well above the unprotected ones under all the above situations. Our work paves the way for further studies and applications of non-Hermitian $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetric physics in noisy quantum systems.

A General 3D Non-Stationary Wireless Channel Model for 5G and Beyond

In this paper, a novel three-dimensional (3D) non-stationary geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) for the fifth generation (5G) and beyond 5G (B5G) systems is proposed. The proposed B5G channel model (B5GCM) is designed to capture various channel characteristics in (B)5G systems such as space-time-frequency (STF) non-stationarity, spherical wavefront (SWF), high delay resolution, time-variant velocities and directions of motion of the transmitter, receiver, and scatterers, spatial consistency, etc. By combining different channel properties into a general channel model framework, the proposed B5GCM is able to be applied to multiple frequency bands and multiple scenarios, including massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), high-speed train (HST), and millimeter wave-terahertz (mmWave-THz) communication scenarios. Key statistics of the proposed B5GCM are obtained and compared with those of standard 5G channel models and corresponding measurement data, showing the generalization and usefulness of the proposed model.

Coherence induced work in quantum heat engines with Larmor precession

The impacts of quantum coherence on nonequilibrium thermodynamics become observable by dividing the heat and work into the conventional diagonal part and the other part relaying on the superpositions and the time derivative of Hamiltonian. Specializing to exactly-solvable dynamics of Larmor precession, we build a quantum Otto heat engine employing magnetic-driven atomic rotations. The coherence induced by the population transition guarantees the positive work output when the control protocol is time dependent. The time-dependent control of a quantum heat engine implements the correspondence between the classical and quantum adiabatic theorems for microscopic heat machines.
