Instanton effects vs resurgence in the $O(3)$ sigma model

We investigate the ground-state energy of the integrable two dimensional $O(3)$ sigma model in a magnetic field. By determining a large number of perturbative coefficients we explore the closest singularities of the corresponding Borel function. We then confront its median resummation to the high precision numerical solution of the exact integral equation and observe that the leading exponentially suppressed contribution is not related to the asymptotics of the perturbative coefficients. By analytically expanding the integral equation we calculate the leading non-perturbative contributions up to fourth order and find complete agreement. These anomalous terms could be attributed to instantons, while the asymptotics of the perturbative coefficients seems to be related to renormalons.

Non-relativistic Hybrid Geometry with Gravitational Gauge-Fixing Term

We search a gravitational system which allows a non-relativistic hybrid geometry interpolating the Schrödinger and Lifshitz spacetimes as a solution, as a continuation of the previous work employing a flow equation. As such a candidate an Einstein-Maxwell-Higgs system naturally arises and we verify that this system indeed supports the hybrid geometry with the help of a gauge-fixing term for diffeomorphism. As a result, this gravitational system may be interpreted as a holographic dual of a general non-relativistic system at the boundary.

Flow equation for the large $N$ scalar model and induced geometries

We study the proposal that a $d+1$ dimensional induced metric is constructed from a $d$ dimensional field theory using gradient flow. Applying the idea to the O($N$) $φ^4$ model and normalizing the flow field, we have shown in the large $N$ limit that the induced metric is finite and universal in the sense that it does not depend on the details of the flow equation and the original field theory except for the renormalized mass, which is the only relevant quantity in this limit. We have found that the induced metric describes Euclidean Anti-de-Sitter (AdS) space in both ultra-violet (UV) and infra-red (IR) limits of the flow direction, where the radius of the AdS is bigger in the IR than in the UV.

On the mass-coupling relation of multi-scale quantum integrable models

We determine exactly the mass-coupling relation for the simplest multi-scale quantum integrable model, the homogenous sine-Gordon model with two independent mass-scales. We first reformulate its perturbed coset CFT description in terms of the perturbation of a projected product of minimal models. This representation enables us to identify conserved tensor currents on the UV side. These UV operators are then mapped via form factor perturbation theory to operators on the IR side, which are characterized by their form factors. The relation between the UV and IR operators is given in terms of the sought-for mass-coupling relation. By generalizing the $Θ$ sum rule Ward identity we are able to derive differential equations for the mass-coupling relation, which we solve in terms of hypergeometric functions. We check these results against the data obtained by numerically solving the thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz equations, and find a complete agreement.

Walking in the 3-dimensional large $N$ scalar model

The solvability of the three-dimensional O($N$) scalar field theory in the large $N$ limit makes it an ideal toy model exhibiting "walking" behavior, expected in some SU($N$) gauge theories with a large number of fermion flavors. We study the model using lattice regularization and show that when the ratio of the particle mass to an effective 4-point coupling (with dimension mass) is small, the beta function associated to the running 4-point coupling is "walking". We also study lattice artifacts and finite size effects, and find that while the former can be sizable at realistic correlation length, the latter are under control already at lattice sizes a few ($\sim$3) correlation lengths. We show the robustness of the walking phenomenon by showing that it can also be observed by studying physical observables such as the scattering phase shifts and the mass gap in finite volume.

An exact solution of the Currie-Hill equations in 1 + 1 dimensional Minkowski space

We present an exact two-particle solution of the Currie-Hill equations of Predictive Relativistic Mechanics in $1 + 1$ dimensional Minkowski space. The instantaneous accelerations are given in terms of elementary functions depending on the relative particle position and velocities. The general solution of the equations of motion is given and by studying the global phase space of this system it is shown that this is a subspace of the full kinematic phase space.

Relativistic trajectory variables in 1+1 dimensional Ruijsenaars-Schneider type models

A general algorithm to construct particle trajectories in 1+1 dimensional canonical relativistic models is presented. The method is a generalization of the construction used in Ruijsenaars-Schneider models and provides a simple proof of the fact that the latter satisfies the world-line conditions granting proper physical Poincare invariance. The 2-particle case for the rational Ruijsenaars-Schneider model is worked out explicitly. It is shown that the particle coordinates do not Poisson commute, as required by the no-interaction theorem of Currie, Jordan and Sudarshan.

Reformulating the TBA equations for the quark anti-quark potential and their two loop expansion

The boundary thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (BTBA) equations introduced in arXiv:1203.1913 and arXiv:1203.1617 to describe the cusp anomalous dimension contain imaginary chemical potentials and singular boundary fugacities, which make its systematic expansion problematic. We propose an alternative formulation based on real chemical potentials and additional source terms. We expand our equations to double wrapping order and find complete agreement with the direct two-loop gauge theory computation of the cusp anomalous dimension.

Symanzik effective actions in the large N limit

Symanzik effective actions, conjectured to describe lattice artifacts, are determined for a class of lattice regularizations of the non-linear O(N) sigma model in two dimensions in the leading order of the 1/N-expansion. The class of actions considered includes also ones which do not have the usual classical limit and are not (so far) treatable in the framework of ordinary perturbation theory. The effective actions obtained are shown to reproduce previously computed lattice artifacts of the step scaling functions defined in finite volume, giving further confidence in Symanzik's theory of lattice artifacts.

$AdS_5\times S^5$ mirror TBA equations from Y-system and discontinuity relations

Using the recently proposed set of discontinuity relations we translate the AdS/CFT Y-system to TBA integral equations and quantization conditions for a large subset of excited states from the sl(2) sector of the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ string sigma-model. Our derivation provides an analytic proof of the fact that the exact Bethe equations reduce to the Beisert-Staudacher equations in the asymptotic limit. We also construct the corresponding T-system and show that in the language of T-functions the energy formula reduces to a single term which depends on a single T-function.

Hybrid-NLIE for the AdS/CFT spectral problem

Hybrid-NLIE equations, an alternative finite NLIE description for the spectral problem of the super sigma model of AdS/CFT and its gamma-deformations are derived by replacing the semi-infinite SU(2) and SU(4) parts of the AdS/CFT TBA equations by a few appropriately chosen complex NLIE variables, which are coupled among themselves and to the Y-functions associated to the remaining central nodes of the TBA diagram. The integral equations are written explicitly for the ground state of the gamma-deformed system. We linearize these NLIE equations, analytically calculate the first correction to the asymptotic solution and find agreement with analogous results coming from the original TBA formalism. Our equations differ substantially from the recently published finite FiNLIE formulation of the spectral problem.

Toward an understanding of short distance repulsions among baryons in QCD -- NBS wave functions and operator product expansion --

We report on our recent attempts to determine the short distance behaviors of general 2-baryon and 3-baryon forces, which are defined from the Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter(NBS) wave function, by using the operator product expansion and a renormalization group analysis in QCD. We have found that the repulsion at short distance increases as the number of valence quarks increases or when the number of different flavors involved decreases. This global tendency suggests a Pauli suppression principle among quark fields at work.

Short distance repulsion in 3 nucleon forces from perturbative QCD

We investigate the short distance behavior of 3 nucleon forces (3NF) defined through Nambu--Bethe--Salpeter wave functions, using the operator product expansion(OPE) and calculating anomalous dimensions of 9--quark operators in perturbative QCD. As is the case of NN forces previously considered, we show that 3NF have repulsions at short distance at 1--loop, which becomes exact in the short distance limit thanks to the asymptotic freedom of QCD. Moreover these behaviors are universal in the sense that they do not depend on the energy of the NBS wave function for 3 nucleons.

Application of the operator product expansion to the short distance behavior of nuclear potentials

We investigate the short distance behavior of nucleon-nucleon (NN) potentials defined through Bethe-Salpeter wave functions, by perturbatively calculating anomalous dimensions of 6-quark operators in QCD. Thanks to the asymptotic freedom of QCD, 1-loop computations give certain exact results for the potentials in the zero distance limit. In particular the functional form of the S-state central NN potential at short distance $r$ is predicted to be a little weaker than $r^{-2}$. On the other hand, due to the intriguing character of the anomalous dimension spectrum, perturbative considerations alone can not determine whether this potential is repulsive or attractive at short distances. A crude estimation suggests that the force at short distance is repulsive, as found numerically in lattice QCD. A similar behavior is found for the tensor potential.

Operator product expansion and the short distance behavior of 3-flavor baryon potentials

The short distance behavior of baryon-baryon potentials defined through Nambu-Bethe-Salpeter wave functions is investigated using the operator product expansion. In a previous analysis of the nucleon-nucleon case, corresponding to the SU(3) channels $27_s$ and $\overline{10}_a$, we argued that the potentials have a repulsive core. A new feature occurs for the case of baryons made up of three flavors: manifestly asymptotically attractive potentials appear in the singlet and octet channels. Attraction in the singlet channel was first indicated by quark model considerations, and recently been found in numerical lattice simulations. The latter have however not yet revealed asymptotic attraction in the octet channels; we give a speculative explanation for this apparent discrepancy.

The Bajnok-Janik formula and wrapping corrections

We write down the simplified TBA equations of the $AdS_5 \times S^5$ string sigma-model for minimal energy twist-two operators in the sl(2) sector of the model. By using the linearized version of these TBA equations it is shown that the wrapping corrected Bethe equations for these states are identical, up to O(g^8), to the Bethe equations calculated in the generalized Lüscher approach (Bajnok-Janik formula). Applications of the Bajnok-Janik formula to relativistic integrable models, the nonlinear O(n) sigma models for n=2,3,4 and the SU(n) principal sigma models, are also discussed.

The repulsive core of the NN potential and the operator product expansion

We investigate the short distance behavior of the nucleon--nucleon (NN) potential defined through the Bethe-Salpeter wave function, by perturbatively calculating anomalous dimensions of 6--quark operators in QCD. Thanks to the asymptotic freedom of QCD, the 1-loop estimations give exact results for the potential in the zero distance limit. We show that the chiral symmetry of the gauge interaction implies the existence of an operator whose anomalous dimension is zero for a given quantum number. Furthermore we find that non-zero anomalous dimensions of other operators are all negative. These results predict the functional form of the NN potential at short distance, which is a little weaker than $r^{-2}$. On the other hand, the computation of the anomalous dimension spectrum alone can not determine whether the potential is repulsive or attractive at short distance. An additional analytic non-perturbative analysis suggests that the force at short distance is indeed repulsive at low energy as found numerically. Some extensions of the method are briefly discussed.

Energy dependence of nucleon-nucleon potentials

We investigate the energy dependence of potentials defined through the Bethe-Salpeter wave functions. We analytically evaluate such a potential in the Ising field theory in 2 dimensions and show that its energy dependence is weak at low energy. We then numerically calculate the nucleon-nucleon potential at non-zero energy using quenched QCD with anti-periodic boundary condition. In this case we also observe that the potentials are almost identical at $E\simeq 0$ and $E\simeq 50$ MeV, where $E$ is the center of mass kinetic energy.

Structure functions of the 2d O(n) non-linear sigma models

We investigate structure functions in the 2-dimensional (asymptotically free) non-linear O(n) sigma-models using the non-perturbative S-matrix bootstrap program. In particular the exact small (Bjorken) x behavior is derived. Structure functions in the special case of the n=3 model are accurately computed over the whole x range for $-q^2/M^2<10^5$, and some moments are compared with results from renormalized perturbation theory. Some results concerning the structure functions in the 1/n approximation are also presented.

Numerical confirmation of analytic predictions for the finite volume mass gap of the XY-model

Recent exact predictions for the massive scaling limit of the two dimensional XY-model are based on the equivalence with the sine-Gordon theory and include detailed results on the finite size behavior. The so-called step-scaling function of the mass gap is simulated with very high precision and found consistent with analytic results in the continuum limit. To come to this conclusion, an also predicted form of a logarithmic decay of lattice artifacts was essential to use for the extrapolation.
