Deformed Hermitian Yang-Mills connections, extended gauge group and scalar curvature

The deformed Hermitian Yang-Mills (dHYM) equation is a special Lagrangian type condition in complex geometry. It requires the complex analogue of the Lagrangian phase, defined for Chern connections on holomorphic line bundles using a background Kähler metric, to be constant. In this paper we introduce and study dHYM equations with variable Kähler metric. These are coupled equations involving both the Lagrangian phase and the radius function, at the same time. They are obtained by using the extended gauge group to couple the moment map interpretation of dHYM connections, due to Collins-Yau and mirror to Thomas' moment map for special Lagrangians, to the Donaldson-Fujiki picture of scalar curvature as a moment map. As a consequence one expects that solutions should satisfy a mixture of K-stability and Bridgeland-type stability. In special limits, or in special cases, we recover the Kähler-Yang-Mills system of Álvarez-Cónsul, Garcia-Fernandez and García-Prada, and the coupled Kähler-Einstein equations of Hultgren-Witt Nyström. After establishing several general results we focus on the equations and their large/small radius limits on abelian varieties, with a source term, following ideas of Feng and Székelyhidi.

Scalar curvature and an infinite-dimensional hyperkähler reduction

We discuss a natural extension of the Kähler reduction of Fujiki and Donaldson, which realises the scalar curvature of Kähler metrics as a moment map, to a hyperkähler reduction. Our approach is based on an explicit construction of hyperkähler metrics due to Biquard and Gauduchon. This extension is reminiscent of how one derives Hitchin's equations for harmonic bundles, and yields real and complex moment map equations which deform the constant scalar curvature Kähler (cscK) condition. In the special case of complex curves we recover previous results of Donaldson. We focus on the case of complex surfaces. In particular we show the existence of solutions to the moment map equations on a class of ruled surfaces which do not admit cscK metrics.

Variations of BPS structure and a large rank limit

We study a class of flat bundles, of finite rank $N$, which arise naturally from the Donaldson-Thomas theory of a Calabi-Yau threefold $X$ via the notion of a variation of BPS structure. We prove that in a large $N$ limit their flat sections converge to the solutions to certain infinite dimensional Riemann-Hilbert problems recently found by Bridgeland. In particular this implies an expression for the positive degree, genus $0$ Gopakumar-Vafa contribution to the Gromov-Witten partition function of $X$ in terms of solutions to confluent hypergeometric differential equations.

Frobenius type and CV-structures for Donaldson-Thomas theory and a convergence property

We rephrase some well-known results in Donaldson-Thomas theory in terms of (formal families of) Frobenius type and CV-structures on a vector bundle in the sense of Hertling. We study these structures in an abstract setting, and prove a convergence result which is relevant to the case of triangulated categories. An application to physical field theory is also briefly discussed.

TBA type equations and tropical curves

We revisit the wall-crossing behaviour of solutions to the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz type equations arising in a class of three-dimensional field theories, expressed as sums of "instanton corrections". We explain how to attach to an instanton correction at a critical value a set of (combinatorial types of) tropical curves in R^2 of fixed degree, which determines its jump to leading order. We show that a weighted sum over all such curves is in fact a tropical count. This goes through to the q-deformed setting. Our construction can be regarded as a formal mirror symmetric statement in the framework proposed by Gaiotto, Moore and Neitzke.

MPS degeneration formula for quiver moduli and refined GW/Kronecker correspondence

Motivated by string-theoretic arguments Manschot, Pioline and Sen discovered a new remarkable formula for the Poincare polynomial of a smooth compact moduli space of stable quiver representations which effectively reduces to the abelian case (i.e. thin dimension vectors). We first prove a motivic generalization of this formula, valid for arbitrary quivers, dimension vectors and stabilities. In the case of complete bipartite quivers we use the refined GW/Kronecker correspondence between Euler characteristics of quiver moduli and Gromov-Witten invariants to identify the MPS formula for Euler characteristics with a standard degeneration formula in Gromov-Witten theory. Finally we combine the MPS formula with localization techniques, obtaining a new formula for quiver Euler characteristics as a sum over trees, and constructing many examples of explicit correspondences between quiver representations and tropical curves.

Universal covers and the GW/Kronecker correspondence

The tropical vertex is an incarnation of mirror symmetry found by Gross, Pandharipande and Siebert. It can be applied to m-Kronecker quivers K(m) (together with a result of Reineke) to compute the Euler characteristics of the moduli spaces of their (framed) representations in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants (as shown by Gross and Pandharipande). In this paper, we study a possible geometric picture behind this correspondence, in particular constructing rational tropical curves from subquivers of the universal covering quiver of K(m). Additional motivation comes from the physical interpretation of m-Kronecker quivers in the context of quiver quantum mechanics (especially work of F. Denef).
