Asymptotic regimes for hadron diffractive scatterings and coulomb interaction. Arguments for the black disk mode

Comparative analysis of the interplay of hadron and Coulomb interactions in pp±pp^\pm scattering amplitudes is performed in a broad energy interval, s=1−106\sqrt{s}=1-10^6 TeV, for two extreme cases: for the asymptotic interactions of hadrons in black disk and resonant disk modes. The interactions are discussed in terms of the KK-matrix function technique. In the asymptotic regime the real part of the hadronic amplitude is concentrated in both cases on the boundary of the disks in the impact parameter space but the LHC energy region is not asymptotic for the resonant disk mode that lead to a specific interplay of hadronic and coulombic amplitudes. For the pppp scattering at s∼10\sqrt{s}\sim 10 TeV an interplay of the hadron and Coulomb interactions in the resonant disk modes is realized in a shoulder in dσel/dq2dσ_{el}/d{\bf q}^2 at q2∼0.0025−0.0075{\bf q}^2\sim 0.0025-0.0075 GeV2^2. The absence of such a shoulder in the data at 8 TeV can be considered as an argument against the resonant disk mode.

Propagators of resonances and rescatterings of the decay products

Hadronic resonance propagators which take into account the analytical properties of decay processes are built in terms of the dispersion relation technique. Such propagators can describe multi-component systems, for example, those when quark degrees of freedom create a resonance state, and decay products correct the corresponding pole by adding hadronic deuteron-like components. Meson and baryon states are considered, examples of particles with different spins are presented.

Hadron diffractive scattering at ultrahigh energies, real part of the amplitude and Coulomb interaction

On the basis of requirements of unitarity and analyticity we analyze the real and imaginary parts of the pp±pp^\pm scattering amplitudes at recent ultrahigh energies, 1-100 TeV. The predictions for the region s>100\sqrt s > 100 TeV and q2<0.4{\bf q}^2<0.4 GeV2^2 are given supposing the black disk asymptotic regime. It turns out that the real part of the amplitude is concentrated in the impact parameter space at the border of the black disk. The interplay of hadron and Coulomb interactions is discussed in terms of the KK-matrix function. The pppp diffractive scattering cross section at 7 TeV is calculated with Coulomb interaction taken into account.

Pentaquarks and resonances in the pJ/ψpJ/ψ spectrum

We consider exotic baryons with hidden charm as antiquark-diquark-diquark composite systems. Spin and isospin structure of such exotic states is given and masses are estimated. The data for production of pentaquarks in the reaction Λb→K−pJ/ψΛ_b\to K^-p J/ψ are discussed. We suggest that the narrow peak in pJ/ψpJ/ψ spectra at 4450 MeV is antiquark-diquark-diquark state with negative parity, 5/2−(4450)5/2^{-}(4450), while the broad bump 3/2+(4380)3/2^{+}(4380) is the result of rescatterings in the (pJ/ψpJ/ψ)-channel. Positions of other pentaquarks with negative parity are estimated.

Central production of lepton-antilepton pairs and heavy quark composite states in hadron diffractive collisions at ultrahigh energies

Central production of lepton-lepton pairs (e+e−e^+e^- and μ+μ−μ^+μ^-) and heavy quark composite states (charmonia and bottomonia) in diffractive proton collisions (proton momenta transferred ∣q⊥∣∼m/ln⁡s{|\bf q_\perp}|\sim m/\ln s) are studied at ultrahigh energies (ln⁡s>>1\ln{s}>>1), where σtot(pp±)∼ln⁡Nsσ_{tot}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^N s with $1\la N\la 2$. The pp±pp^\pm-rescattering corrections, which are not small, are calculated in terms of the KK-matrix approach modified for ultrahigh energies. Two versions of hadron interactions are considered in detail: the growth (i) σtot(pp±)∼ln⁡2sσ_{tot}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^2 s, σinel(pp±)∼ln⁡2sσ_{inel}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^2 s within the black disk mode and (ii) σtot(pp±)∼ln⁡2sσ_{tot}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln^2 s, σinel(pp±)∼ln⁡sσ_{inel}(pp^\pm)\sim\ln s within the resonant disk mode. The energy behavior of the diffractive production processes differs strongly for these modes, thus giving a possibility to distinguish between the versions of the ultrahigh energy interactions.

Hadron collisions at ultrahigh energies: black disk or resonant disk modes?

The analysis of current ultrahigh energy data for hadronic total cross sections and diffractive scattering cross sections points to a steady growth of the optical density with energy for elastic scattering amplitudes in the impact parameter space, bb. At LHC energy the profile function of the pppp-scattering amplitude, T(b)T(b), reaches the black disk limit at small bb. Two scenarios are possible at larger energies, $\sqrt{s}\ga 100$ TeV. First, the profile function gets frozen in the black disk limit, T(b)≃1T(b)\simeq 1 while the radius of the black disk Rblack  diskR_{black\;disk} is increasing with s\sqrt s, providing σtot∼ln⁡2sσ_{tot}\sim \ln^2s, σel∼ln⁡2sσ_{el}\sim \ln^2s, σinel∼ln⁡2sσ_{inel}\sim \ln^2s. In another scenario the profile function continues to grow at $\sqrt{s}\ga 100$ TeV approaching the maximal value, T(b)≃2T(b)\simeq 2, that means the resonant disk mode. We discuss features of the resonant disk mode when the disk radius, Rresonant  disk R_{resonant\;disk}\,, increases providing the growth of the total and elastic cross sections σtot∼ln⁡2sσ_{tot}\sim \ln^2s, σel∼ln⁡2sσ_{el}\sim \ln^2s, but a more slow increase of inelastic cross section, σinel∼ln⁡sσ_{inel}\sim \ln s.

Proton-proton, pion-proton and pion-pion diffractive collisions at ultra-high energies

The LHC energies are those at which the asymptotic regime in hadron-hadron diffractive collisions (pp,πp,ππpp,πp,ππ) might be switched on. Based on results of the Dakhno-Nikonov eikonal model which is a generalization of the Good-Walker eikonal approach for a continuous set of channels, we present a picture for transformation of the constituent quark mode to the black disk one. In the black disk mode (s≥10\sqrt s \geq 10 TeV) we have a growth of the logarithm squared type for total and elastic cross sections, σtot∼ln⁡2sσ_{tot}\sim\ln^2s and σel∼ln⁡2sσ_{el}\sim\ln^2s, and (τ=q⊥2σtot)(τ={\bf q}_\perp^2σ_{tot})-scaling for diffractive scattering and diffractive dissociation of hadrons. The diffractive dissociation cross section grows as σD∼ln⁡sσ_{D}\sim\ln{s}, σDD∼ln⁡sσ_{DD}\sim\ln{s}, and their relative contribution tends to zero: σD/σtot→0σ_{D}/σ_{tot}\to 0, σDD/σtot→0σ_{DD}/σ_{tot}\to 0. Asymptotic characteristics of diffractive and total cross sections are universal, and this results in the asymptotical equality of cross sections for all types of hadrons (the Gribov's universality). The energy scale for switching on the asymptotic mode is estimated for different processes.

Asymptotic regime for hadron-hadron diffractive collisions at ultrahigh energies

Using the pre-LHC and LHC data for πpπp and pppp diffractive collisions we study the ultrahigh energy asymptotic regime in the framework of the black disk picture. The black disk picture, being constrained by the s-channel unitarity condition and the tt-channel analyticity, gives rather definite predictions for diffractive processes increasing with the energy. To deal with the data, we consider the Dakhno-Nikonov eikonal model which predicts a growth of the ln⁡2s\ln^2s type for total and elastic cross sections and (τ=q⊥2ln⁡2s)(τ={\bf q}_\perp^2\ln^2s)-scaling for diffractive scattering and diffractive dissociation of hadrons. According to the calculations, ultrahigh energy asymptotic characteristics of diffractive and total cross sections are universal, and this results in the asymptotic equality of cross sections for all types of hadrons. We estimate the energy scale of the asymptotics in different processes. The manifestation of the asymptotic regime in hadron fragmentation reactions is discussed.

Sigma-Meson and Confinement Singularity

We describe the meson-meson data for the (IJPC=00++IJ^{PC}=00^{++}) wave at 280≤s≤1900280\leq\sqrt s\leq 1900 MeV in two approaches: (i) the K-matrix approach and (ii) the dispersion relation D-matrix method. With a good description of low energy data (at 280≤s≤900280\leq\sqrt s\leq 900 MeV) as well as the data of two-meson transition amplitudes and antiproton-proton annihilation into three pseudoscalar meson states (at 450≤s≤1950450\leq\sqrt s\leq 1950 MeV) we have found the positions of the resonance poles: (i) for the σσ meson pole: Mσ=(390±35)−i(235±50)M_σ= (390\pm 35)-i(235\pm 50) MeV; (ii) two poles for the f0(980)f_0(980), on the second sheet (under the ππππ cut): MI=(1011±5)−i(35±5)M_{I} = (1011\pm 5)-i(35\pm 5) MeV, and on the third sheet (under the ππππ and KKˉK\bar K cuts), MII=(1035±50)−i(460±50)M_{II} = (1035\pm 50)-i(460\pm 50) MeV; for the f0(1370)f_0(1370) meson, M=(1285±30)−i(160±20)M= (1285\pm 30)-i(160\pm 20) MeV; for the f0(1500)f_0(1500) meson, M=(1488±4)−i(53±5)M = (1488\pm 4)-i(53\pm 5) MeV; for the f0(1790)f_0(1790) meson, M=(1775±25)−i(140±15)M = (1775\pm 25)-i(140\pm 15) MeV and for the broad state f0(1200−1600)f_0(1200-1600) M=(1540±120)−i(550±70)M=(1540\pm 120)-i(550\pm 70) MeV. Our estimation of the scalar-isoscalar scattering length obtained under different parameterizations and assumptions about the quality of low energy ππππ scattering data is a00=(0.215±0.040)μπ−1a^0_0=(0.215\pm 0.040)μ^{-1}_π. We also discuss the idea according to which the σσ-meson could be a remnant of the confinement singularity, 1/s21/s^2, in a white channel.

Quark combinatorics and meson production ratios in hadronic Z^0 decays

Rich experimental data accumulated in the past few years in the hadronic Z0Z^0 decays allow one to check the quark combinatorics relations for a new type of processes, namely: quark jets in the decays Z0→qqˉ→hadronsZ^0 \to q\bar q \to hadrons. In this paper we review quark combinatorics rules for the yields of vector and pseudoscalar mesons, V/PV/P, in the central and fragmentation regions of the hadronic Z0Z^0 decays. It is stressed that in the central region a direct verification of quark combinatorics rules is rather problematic because of a considerable background related to the decay of highly excited resonances; however such a verification is possible in the fragmentation region, at xhadron∼0.5−1x_{hadron} \sim 0.5-1, where the contribution of resonance decays is suppressed due to the rapid decrease of spectra with increasing xhadronx_{hadron}. It is shown that the experimental data in the fragmentation region for ρ0/π0ρ^0/π^0 and p/π+p/π^+ are in a reasonable agreement with the predictions of quark combinatorics. The ratios of the heavy meson yields, B∗/BB^*/B and D∗/DD^*/D, are also discussed: the data demonstrate a good agreement with the quark combinatorial results. We analyse the structure of the suppression parameters for strange and heavy quark productions in soft processes and estimate their order of magnitudes in the multiperipheral processes; the ratio K±/π±K^{\pm}/π^{\pm} at xhadron∼0.5−0.8x_{hadron}\sim 0.5-0.8 and production probabilities of the ccˉc\bar c and bbˉb \bar b mesons are in a good agreement with the estimates.
