A Note on a Generalized AHM Model with Analytical Vortex Solutions

We study topological vortex solutions in a generalized Abelian Higgs model with non-polynomial dielectric and potential functions. These quantities are chosen by requiring integrability of the self-dual limit of the theory for all values of the magnetic flux. All the vortex profiles are described by exact analytical expressions that solve the self-dual vortex equations. There is only a symmetry-breaking superconducting phase and the model sustains regular phenomenology.

On self-gravitating kinks in two-dimensional pseudo-riemannian universes

Two-dimensional scalar field theories with spontaneous symmetry breaking subject to the action of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity are studied. Solutions for the $ϕ^4$ and sine-Gordon self-gravitating kinks are presented, both for general gravitational coupling and in the perturbative regime. The analysis is extended to deal with a hierarchy of kinks related to transparent Pöschl-Teller potentials

Electron-positron planar orbits in a constant magnetic field

The different types of orbits in the classical problem of two particles with equal masses and opposite charges on a plane under the influence of a constant orthogonal magnetic field are classified. The equations of the system are reduced to the problem of a Coulomb center plus a harmonic oscillator. The associated bifurcation diagram is fully explained. Using this information the dynamics of the two particles is described.

Quantum magnetic flux lines, BPS vortex zero modes, and one-loop string tension shifts

Spectral heat kernel/zeta function regularization procedures are employed in this paper to control the divergences arising from vacuum fluctuations of Bogomolnyi-Prasad-Sommerfield vortices in the Abelian Higgs model. Zero modes of vortex fluctuations are the source of difficulties appearing when the standard Gilkey-de Witt expansion is performed. A modified GdW expansion is developed to diminish the impact of the infrared divergences due to the vortex zero modes. With this new technique at our disposal we compute the one-loop vortex mass shift in the planar AHM and the quantum corrections to the string tension of the magnetic flux tubes living in three dimensions. In both cases it is observed that weak repulsive forces surge between these classically non interacting topological defects caused by vacuum quantum fluctuations.

$δ-δ^\prime$ generalized Robin boundary conditions and quantum vacuum fluctuations

The effects induced by the quantum vacuum fluctuations of one massless real scalar field on a configuration of two partially transparent plates are investigated. The physical properties of the infinitely thin plates are simulated by means of Dirac-$δ-δ^\prime$ point interactions. It is shown that the distortion caused on the fluctuations by this external background gives rise to a generalization of Robin boundary conditions. The $T$-operator for potentials concentrated on points with non defined parity is computed with total generality. The quantum vacuum interaction energy between the two plates is computed using the $TGTG$ formula to find positive, negative, and zero Casimir energies. The parity properties of the $δ-δ^\prime$ potential allow repulsive quantum vacuum force between identical plates.

A note on BPS vortex bound states

In this note we investigate bound states, where scalar and vector bosons are trapped by BPS vortices in the Abelian Higgs model with a critical ratio of the couplings. A class of internal modes of fluctuation around cylindrically symmetric BPS vortices is characterized mathematically, analysing the spectrum of the second-order fluctuation operator when the Higgs and vector boson masses are equal. A few of these bound states with low values of quantized magnetic flux are described fully, and their main properties are discussed.

On supersymmetric Dirac delta interactions

In this paper we construct $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetric (SUSY) quantum mechanics over several configurations of Dirac-$δ$ potentials from one single delta to a Dirac " comb \rq\rq. We show in detail how the building of supersymmetry on potentials with delta interactions placed in two or more points on the real line requires the inclusion of quasi-square wells. Therefore, the basic ingredient of a supersymmetric Hamiltonian containing two or more Dirac-$δ$s is the singular potential formed by a Dirac-$δ$ plus a step ($θ$) at the same point. In this $δ/θ$ SUSY Hamiltonian there is only one singlet ground state of zero energy annihilated by the two supercharges or a doublet of ground states paired by supersymmetry of positive energy depending on the relation between the Dirac well strength and the height of the step potential. We find a scenario of either unbroken supersymmetry with Witten index one or supersymmetry breaking when there is one " bosonic\rq\rq and one " fermionic\rq\rq ground state such that the Witten index is zero. We explain next the different structure of the scattering waves produced by three $δ/θ$ potentials with respect to the eigenfunctions arising in the non-SUSY case. In particular, many more bound states paired by supersymmetry exist within the supersymmetric framework compared with the non-SUSY problem. An infinite array of equally spaced $δ$-interactions of the same strength but alternatively attractive and repulsive are susceptible of being promoted to a ${\cal N}=2$ supersymmetric system...

Two-point one-dimensional $δ$-$δ^\prime$ interactions: non-abelian addition law and decoupling limit

In this contribution to the study of one dimensional point potentials, we prove that if we take the limit $q\to 0$ on a potential of the type $v_0δ({y})+{2}v_1δ'({y})+w_0δ({y}-q)+ {2} w_1δ'({y}-q)$, we obtain a new point potential of the type ${u_0} δ({y})+{2 u_1} δ'({y})$, when $ u_0$ and $ u_1$ are related to $v_0$, $v_1$, $w_0$ and $w_1$ by a law having the structure of a group. This is the Borel subgroup of $SL_2({\mathbb R})$. We also obtain the non-abelian addition law from the scattering data. The spectra of the Hamiltonian in the exceptional cases emerging in the study are also described in full detail. It is shown that for the $v_1=\pm 1$, $w_1=\pm 1$ values of the $δ^\prime$ couplings the singular Kurasov matrices become equivalent to Dirichlet at one side of the point interaction and Robin boundary conditions at the other side.

On the Quasi-Exact Solvability of the Confluent Heun Equation

It is shown that the Confluent Heun Equation (CHEq) reduces for certain conditions of the parameters to a particular class of Quasi-Exactly Solvable models, associated with the Lie algebra $sl (2,{\mathbb R})$. As a consequence it is possible to find a set of polynomial solutions of this quasi-exactly solvable version of the CHEq. These finite solutions encompass previously known polynomial solutions of the Generalized Spheroidal Equation, Razavy Eq., Whittaker-Hill Eq., etc. The analysis is applied to obtain and describe special eigen-functions of the quantum Hamiltonian of two fixed Coulombian centers in two and three dimensions.

Self-Dual Vortices in Abelian Higgs Models with Dielectric Function on the Noncommutative Plane

We show that Abelian Higgs Models with dielectric function defined on the noncommutative plane enjoy self-dual vorticial solutions. By choosing a particular form of the dielectric function, we provide a family of solutions whose Higgs and magnetic fields interpolate between the profiles of the noncommutative Nielsen-Olesen and Chern-Simons vortices. This is done both for the usual $U(1)$ model and for the $SU(2)\times U(1)$ semilocal model with a doublet of complex scalar fields. The variety of known noncommutative self-dual vortices which display a regular behaviour when the noncommutativity parameter tends to zero results in this way considerably enlarged.

Solitons and entanglement in the double sine-Gordon model

The bipartite ground state entanglement in a finite linear harmonic chain of particles is numerically investigated. The particles are subjected to an external on-site periodic potential belonging to a family parametrized by the unit interval encompassing the sine-Gordon potential at both ends of the interval. Strong correspondences between the soliton entanglement entropy and the kink energy distribution profile as functions of the sub-chain length are found.

New models for two real scalar fields and their kinklike solutions

In this work we study the presence of kinks in models described by two real scalar fields in bi-dimensional space-time. We generate new two-field models, constructed from distinct but important one-field models, and we solve them with techniques that we introduce in the current work. We illustrate the results with several examples of current interest to high energy physics.

Quantum vacuum energies and Casimir forces between partially transparent $δ$-function plates

In this paper the quantum vacuum energies induced by massive fluctuations of one real scalar field on a configuration of two partially transparent plates are analysed. The physical properties of the infinitely thin plates are characterized by two Dirac-$δ$ potentials. We find that an attractive/repulsive Casimir force arises between the plates when the weights of the $δ$'s have equal/different sign. If some of the plates absorbs fluctuations below some threshold of energy (the corresponding weight is negative) there is the need to set a minimum mass to the scalar field fluctuations to preserve unitarity in the corresponding quantum field theory. Two repulsive $δ$-interactions are compatible with massless fluctuations. The effect of Dirichlet boundary conditions at the endpoints of the interval $(-a,a)$ on a massless scalar quantum field theory defined on this interval is tantamount letting the weights of the repulsive $δ$-interactions to $+\infty$.

Factorization of supersymmetric Hamiltonians in curvilinear coordinates

Planar supersymmetric quantum mechanical systems with separable spectral problem in curvilinear coordinates are analyzed in full generality. We explicitly construct the supersymmetric extension of the Euler/Pauli Hamiltonian describing the motion of a light particle in the field of two heavy fixed Coulombian centers. We shall also show how the SUSY Kepler/Coulomb problem arises in two different limits of this problem: either, the two centers collapse in one center - a problem separable in polar coordinates -, or, one of the two centers flies to infinity - to meet the Coulomb problem separable in parabolic coordinates.

Double-delta potentials: one dimensional scattering. The Casimir effect and kink fluctuations

The path is explored between one-dimensional scattering through Dirac-$δ$ walls and one-dimensional quantum field theories defined on a finite length interval with Dirichlet boundary conditions. It is found that two $δ$'s are related to the Casimir effect whereas two $δ$'s plus the first transparent P$\ddot{\rm o}$sch-Teller well arise in the context of the sine-Gordon kink fluctuations, both phenomena subjected to Dirichlet boundary conditions. One or two delta wells will be also explored in order to describe absorbent plates, even though the wells lead to non unitary Quantum Field Theories.

On the Supersymmetric Spectra of two Planar Integrable Quantum Systems

Two planar supersymmetric quantum mechanical systems built around the quantum integrable Kepler/Coulomb and Euler/Coulomb problems are analyzed in depth. The supersymmetric spectra of both systems are unveiled, profiting from symmetry operators not related to invariance with respect to rotations. It is shown analytically how the first problem arises at the limit of zero distance between the centers of the second problem. It appears that the supersymmetric modified Euler/Coulomb problem is a quasi-isospectral deformation of the supersymmetric Kepler/Coulomb problem.

Generalized MSTB Models: Structure and kink varieties

In this paper we describe the structure of a class of two-component scalar field models in a (1+1) Minkowskian space-time which generalize the well-known Montonen-Sarker-Trullinger-Bishop -hence MSTB- model. This class includes all the field models whose static field equations are equivalent to the Newton equations of two-dimensional type I Liouville mechanical systems with a discrete set of instability points. We offer a systematic procedure to characterize these models and to identify the solitary wave or kink solutions as homoclinic or heteroclinic trajectories in the analogous mechanical system. This procedure is applied to a one-parametric family of generalized MSTB models with a degree-eight polynomial as potential energy density.

Quantum fluctuations around low-dimensional topological defects

In these Lectures a method is described to analyze the effect of quantum fluctuations on topological defect backgrounds up to the one-loop level. The method is based on the spectral heat kernel/zeta function regularization procedure, and it is first applied to various types of kinks arising in several deformed linear and non-linear sigma models with different numbers of scalar fields. In the second part, the same conceptual framework is constructed for the topological solitons of the planar semilocal Abelian Higgs model, built from a doublet of complex scalar fields and one U(1) gauge field.

Generalized Zeta Functions and One-loop Corrections to Quantum Kink Masses

A method for describing the quantum kink states in the semi-classical limit of several (1+1)-dimensional field theoretical models is developed. We use the generalized zeta function regularization method to compute the one-loop quantum correction to the masses of the kink in the sine-Gordon and cubic sinh-Gordon models and another two ${\rm P}(ϕ)_2$ systems with polynomial self-interactions.

On the solitons of the Chern-Simons-Higgs model

Several issues concerning the self-dual solutions of the Chern-Simons-Higgs model are addressed. The topology of the configuration space of the model is analysed when the space manifold is either the plane or an infinite cylinder. We study the local structure of the moduli space of self-dual solitons in the second case by means of an index computation. It is shown how to manage the non-integer contribution to the heat-kernel supertrace due to the non-compactness of the base space. A physical picture of the local coordinates parametrizing the non-topological soliton moduli space arises .
