Transmission through potential barriers with a generalised Fermi-Dirac current

We study the effect of the shape of different potential barriers on the transmitted charged current whose fermionic population is not monoenergetic but is described by means of an energy spectrum. The generalised Kappa Fermi-Dirac distribution function is able to take into account both equilibrium and non-equilibrium populations of particles by changing the kappa index. Moreover, the corresponding current density can be evaluated using such a distribution. Subsequently, this progressive charged density arrives at the potential barrier, which is considered under several shapes, and the corresponding transmission factor is evaluated. This permits a comparison of the effects for different barriers as well as for different energy states of the incoming current.

Exotic spectroscopy and decays: prospects for colliders

In addition to well-motivated scenarios like supersymmetric particles, the so-called exotic matter (quirky matter, hidden valley models, etc.) can show up at the LHC and ILC, by exploring the spectroscopy of high mass levels and decay rates. In this paper we use QCD-inspired potential models, though without resorting to any particular one, to calculate level spacings of bound states and decay rates of the aforementioned exotic matter in order to design discovery strategies. We mainly focus on quirky matter, but our conclusions can be extended to other similar scenarios.

Results from Bottomonia Production at the Tevatron and Prospects for the LHC

We extend our previous analysis on inclusive heavy quarkonia hadroproduction to the whole Upsilon(nS) (n=1,2,3) resonance family. We use a Monte Carlo framework with the colour-octet mechanism implemented in the PYTHIA event generator. We include in our study higher order QCD effects such as initial-state emission of gluons and Altarelli-Parisi evolution of final-state gluons. We extract some NRQCD colour-octet matrix elements relevant for Upsilon(nS) (n=1,2,3) hadroproduction from CDF data at the Fermilab Tevatron. Then we extrapolate to LHC energies to predict prompt bottomonia production rates. Finally, we examine the prospect to probe the gluon density in protons from heavy quarkonia inclusive hadroproduction at high transverse momentum and its feasibility in LHC general-purpose experiments.
