Investigation of $K^+K^-$ pairs in the effective mass region near $2m_K$

The DIRAC experiment at CERN investigated in the reaction $\rm{p}(24~\rm{GeV}/c) + Ni$ the particle pairs $K^+K^-, π^+ π^-$ and $p \bar{p}$ with relative momentum $Q$ in the pair system less than 100 MeV/c. Because of background influence studies, DIRAC explored three subsamples of $K^+K^-$ pairs, obtained by subtracting -- using time-of-flight (TOF) technique -- background from initial $Q$ distributions with $K^+K^-$ sample fractions more than 70\%, 50\% and 30\%. The corresponding pair distributions in $Q$ and in its longitudinal projection $Q_L$ were analyzed first in a Coulomb model, which takes into account only Coulomb final state interaction (FSI) and assuming point-like pair production. This Coulomb model analysis leads to a $K^+K^-$ yield increase of about four at $Q_L=0.5$ MeV/c compared to 100 MeV/c. In order to study contributions from strong interaction, a second more sophisticated model was applied, considering besides Coulomb FSI also strong FSI via the resonances $f_0(980)$ and $a_0(980)$ and a variable distance $r^*$ between the produced $K$ mesons. This analysis was based on three different parameter sets for the pair production. For the 70\% subsample and with best parameters, $3680\pm 370$ $K^+K^-$ pairs was found to be compared to $3900\pm 410$ $K^+K^-$ extracted by means of the Coulomb model. Knowing the efficiency of the TOF cut for background suppression, the total number of detected $K^+K^-$ pairs was evaluated to be around $40000\pm 10\%$, which agrees with the result from the 30\% subsample. The $K^+K^-$ pair number in the 50\% subsample differs from the two other values by about three standard deviations, confirming -- as discussed in the paper -- that experimental data in this subsample is less reliable.

Unstable D-brane in Torsional Newton-Cartan Background

This paper is devoted to the construction of unstable D-brane action in torsional Newton-Cartan background through T-duality along null direction. We determine corresponding equations of motion and analyze their solution that corresponds to lower dimensional non-relativistic D(p-1)-brane. We also find Hamiltonian for unstable Dp-brane and study tachyon vacuum solutions that can be interpreted as gas of non-relativistic strings.

(p,q)-Five Brane and (p,q)-String Solutions, their Bound State and its Near Horizon Limit

We determine (p,q)-string and (p,q)-five brane solutions of type IIB supergravity using SL(2,Z)-symmetry of the full type IIB superstring theory. We also determine SL(2,Z)-transformed solution corresponding to the bound state of NS5-branes and fundamental strings. Then we analyze its near horizon limit and we show that it leads to the AdS(3)xS(3) with mixed fluxes.

Restricted f(R) Gravity and Its Cosmological Implications

We investigate the f(R) theory of gravity with broken diffeomorphism due to the change of the coefficient in front of the total divergence term in the (3+1)-decomposition of the scalar curvature. We perform the canonical analysis of this theory and show that its consistent, i.e. with no unphysical degrees of freedom, form is equivalent to the low-energy limit of the non-projectable f(R) Horava-Lifshitz theory of gravity. We also analyze its cosmological solutions and show that the de Sitter solution can be obtained also in the case of this broken symmetry. The consequences of the proposed theory on the asymptotic solutions of a few specific models in the cosmological context are also presented.

First $πK$ atom lifetime and $πK$ scattering length measurements

The results of a search for hydrogen-like atoms consisting of $π^{\mp}K^{\pm}$ mesons are presented. Evidence for $πK$ atom production by 24 GeV/c protons from CERN PS interacting with a nickel target has been seen in terms of characteristic $πK$ pairs from their breakup in the same target ($178 \pm 49$) and from Coulomb final state interaction ($653 \pm 42$). Using these results the analysis yields a first value for the $πK$ atom lifetime of $τ=(2.5_{-1.8}^{+3.0})$ fs and a first model-independent measurement of the S-wave isospin-odd $πK$ scattering length $\left|a_0^-\right|=\frac{1}{3}\left|a_{1/2}-a_{3/2}\right|= \left(0.11_{-0.04}^{+0.09} \right)M_π^{-1}$ ($a_I$ for isospin $I$).

Integrability of D1-brane on Group Manifold

This paper is devoted to the analysis of the integrability of D1-brane on group manifold. We consider D1-brane as principal chiral model, determine corresponding equations of motions and find Lax connection. Then we calculate the Poisson brackets of Lax connection and we find that it has similar structure as in case of principal chiral model. As the second example we consider more general background with non-zero NS-NS two form. We again show that D1-brane theory is integrable on this background and determine Poisson brackets of Lax connection.

Note About Canonical Formalism for Normalized Gravity And Vacuum Energy Sequestering Model

This short note is devoted to the Hamiltonian analysis of the normalized general relativity and recently proposed model of vacuum energy sequestering. The common property of these models is the presence of the global variables. We discuss the meaning of these global variables in the context of the canonical formalism and argue that their presence lead to the non-local form of the Hamiltonian constraint.

Hamiltonian Formalism of General Bimetric Gravity

We perform the Hamiltonian analysis of general bimetric gravity. We determine four first class constraints that are generators of the diagonal diffeomorphism. We further analyze the remaining constraints and we present an evidence that these constraints should be the second class constraints in order to have theory with the Hamiltonian constraint as the first class constraint. We also discuss the case of the non-linear bimetric gravity and argue that it is very difficult to eliminate the ghost mode.

Note About Consistent Extension of Quasidilaton Massive Gravity

This note is devoted to the Hamiltonian analysis of extension of quasidilaton massive gravity as was proposed recently in [arXiv:1306.5502]. We show that for given formulation of the theory the additional primary constraint that is responsible for the elimination of the Boulware-Deser ghost is missing. We compare this situation with quasidilaton massive gravity. Finally we propose ghost free extension of quasidilaton massive gravity.

Comments About Hamiltonian Formulation of Non-Linear Massive Gravity with Stuckelberg Fields

We perform the Hamiltonian analysis of some form of the non-linear massive gravity action that is formulated in the Stuckelberg formalism. Following seminal analysis performed in arXiv:1203.5283 [hep-th] we find that this theory possesses one primary constraint which could eliminate one additional mode in this theory. We performed the explicit Hamiltonian analysis of two dimensional non-linear massive gravity and we found that this is theory free from the ghosts.

Hamiltonian Formalism of Particular Bimetric Gravity Model

In this short note we perform the Hamiltonian analysis of bimetric gravity with one particular form of potential between two metrics. We find that this theory have eight secondary constraints. We identify four constraints that are the first class constraints on condition when the interaction term obeys some specific condition. We show that for the form of the potential studied in this paper this condition is obeyed and hence we can interpret these first class constraints as generators of the diagonal diffeomorphism.

Non-Linear Massive Gravity with Additional Primary Constraint and Absence of Ghosts

We complete the Hamiltonian analysis of specific model of non-linear massive gravity that was started in arXiv:1112.5267. We identify the primary constraint and corresponding secondary constraint. We show that they are the second class constraints and hence they lead to the elimination of the additional scalar mode. We also find that the remaining constraints are the first class constraints with the structure that corresponds to the manifestly diffeomorphism invariant theory. Finally we determine the number of physical degrees of freedom and we show that it corresponds to the number of physical modes of massive gravity.

Remark About Hamiltonian Formulation of Non-Linear Massive Gravity in Stuckelberg Formalism

We perform the Hamiltonian analysis of the specific model of the non-linear massive gravity in Stuckelberg formalism where the square root structure is replaced by introducing auxiliary fields. We show that the constraint structure of given theory varies over the phase space and discuss possible consequences of this fact for the counting of the physical degrees of freedom.

Determination of $ππ$ scattering lengths from measurement of $π^+π^-$ atom lifetime

The DIRAC experiment at CERN has achieved a sizeable production of $π^+π^-$ atoms and has significantly improved the precision on its lifetime determination. From a sample of 21227 atomic pairs, a 4% measurement of the S-wave $ππ$ scattering length difference $|a_0-a_2| = (.0.2533^{+0.0080}_{-0.0078}|_\mathrm{stat}.{}^{+0.0078}_{-0.0073}|_\mathrm{syst})M_{π^+}^{-1}$ has been attained, providing an important test of Chiral Perturbation Theory.

Hamiltonian Analysis of Non-Relativistic Covariant RFDiff Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

We perform the Hamiltonian analysis of non-relativistic covariant Horava-Lifshitz gravity in the formulation presented recently in arXiv:1009.4885. We argue that the resulting Hamiltonian structure is in agreement with the original construction of non-relativistic covariant Hořava-Lifshitz gravity presented in arXiv:1007.2410. Then we extend this construction to the case of RFDiff invariant Hořava-Lifshitz theory. We find well behaved Hamiltonian system with the number of the first and the second class constraints that ensure the correct number of physical degrees of freedom of gravity.

Non-Local Gravity from Hamiltonian Point of View

This short note is devoted to the canonical analysis of the non-local theories of gravity. We find their Hamiltonian and determine the algebra of constraints. We perform this analysis for non-local theories of gravity formulated both in Jordan and Einstein frame. The result of our analysis suggests that Hamiltonian formulation does not bring to clear identification of ghosts presence in non-local gravity.

Note About Equivalence of F(R) and Scalar Tensor Horava-Lifshitz Gravities

In this note we study the relation between F(R) and scalar tensor Horava-Lifshitz gravity. We find that due to the broken diffeomorphism invariance corresponding scalar tensor theory has more complicated form than in case of the full diffeomorphism invariant F(R) theory of gravity. We also show that in the low energy limit this theory flows to the relativistic scalar tensor theory of gravity.

Note About Hamiltonian Formalism of Healthy Extended Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

In this paper we continue the study of the Hamiltonian formalism of the healthy extended Horava-Lifshitz gravity. We find the constraint structure of given theory and argue that this is the theory with the second class constraints. Then we discuss physical consequence of this result. We also apply the Batalin-Tyutin formalism of the conversion of the system with the second class constraints to the system with the first class constraints to the case of the healthy extended Horava-Lifshitz theory. As a result we find new theory of gravity with structure that is different from the standard formulation of Horava-Lifshitz gravity or General Relativity.

String in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

We generalize recent analysis of the dynamics of point particle in Horava-Lifshitz background to the case of string probe when we replace the Hamiltonian constraint of the Polyakov string with the constraint that breaks Lorentz invariance of target space-time. Then we find corresponding Lagrangian and argue that the world-sheet theory is invariant under foliation preserving diffeomorphism. Finally we discuss the Hamiltonian dynamics and show that this is well defined on condition that the world-sheet lapse function obeys the projectability condition.

T-Duality For String in Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

We continue our study of the Lorentz breaking string theories. These theories are defined as string theory with modified Hamiltonian constraint which breaks the Lorentz symmetry of target space-time. We analyze properties of this theory in the target space-time that possesses isometry along one direction. We also derive the T-duality rules for Lorentz breaking string theories and show that they are the same as that of Buscher's T-duality for the relativistic strings.

Wilson Loops from D-branes in AdS(4) X CP**3 with B-NS Holonomy

We study Wilson loops in N=6 superconformal Chern-Simons theory with gauge group $U(M) \times \bar{U(N)}$ that is dual to N M2-branes and (M-N) fractional M2-branes, equivalently, discrete 3-form holonomy at C4/Zk orbifold singularity. We give description of these Wilson loops in terms of macroscopic fundamental string and D6-branes in the dual AdS$_4\times$ CP$^3$ geometry with NS-NS B field turned on over CP$^1 \subset$ CP$^3$.

Evidence for $πK$-atoms with DIRAC

We present evidence for the first observation of electromagnetically bound $π^\pm K^\mp$-pairs ($πK$-atoms) with the DIRAC experiment at the CERN-PS. The $πK$-atoms are produced by the 24 GeV/c proton beam in a thin Pt-target and the $π^\pm$ and $K^\mp$-mesons from the atom dissociation are analyzed in a two-arm magnetic spectrometer. The observed enhancement at low relative momentum corresponds to the production of 173 $\pm$ 54 $πK$-atoms. The mean life of $πK$-atoms is related to the s-wave $πK$-scattering lengths, the measurement of which is the goal of the experiment. From these first data we derive a lower limit for the mean life of 0.8 fs at 90% confidence level.

Wilson Loops in 3d QFT from D-branes in AdS(4) x CP**3

We study the Wilson loops and defects in the three dimensional QFT from the D-branes in the AdS(4) x CP**3 geometry. We find out explicit D-brane configurations in the bulk which correspond to both straight and circular Wilson lines extended to the boundary of AdS(4). We analyze critically the role of boundary contributions to the D2-branes with various topology and to the fundamental string actions.

Pure Spinor Strings in TsT Deformed Background

We consider pure spinor strings that propagate in the background generated by a sequence of TsT transformations. We use the fact that U(1) isometry variables of TsT-transformed background are related to the isometry variables of the initial background in the universal way that is independent of the details of the background. We will argue that after redefinitions of pure spinors and the fermionic variables we can construct pure spinor action with manifest U(1) isometry. This fact implies that the pure spinor string in TsT-transformed background is described by pure spinor string in the original background where world-volume modes are subject to twisted boundary conditions. We will argue that these twisted boundary conditions generally prevent to prove the quantum conformal invariance of the pure spinor string in AdS_5 x S^5 background. We determine the conditions under which this quantum conformal invariance can be proved. We also determine the Lax pair for pure spinor strings in the TsT-transformed background.

Some Remarks About Berkovits' Superstring Field Theory

In this short note we would like to discuss general solutions of the Berkovits superstring field theory, in particular the string field action for fluctuation around such a solution. We will find that fluctuations obey the same equation of motion as the original field with the new BRST operator. Then we will argue that the superstring field theory action for fluctuation field has the same form as the original one.
